November Challenge Day 24

Today’s challenge is that I’m supposed to name my favorite blogs and why. Oh my goodness! How could I ever choose my favorite blogs? Even though I haven’t met most of you in real life, every one of you means a lot to me. I could never, ever choose favorites. So many of you have taught me various things through your words, have prayed for me and my family and have just been very kind. And isn’t that what we all want, especially in the world today?  Kindness?

I don’t have anything new to show you today, so I thought I would share a little purse I have that belonged to my grandmother. She made it in 1901. I have it in my cedar chest which is now at Mandy’s house. This is the tiniest little thing and she must have used a size 0 hook. This is not regular crochet thread, it is like sewing thread thickness.

There is even a zipper sewn into the top.

This is the grandma who taught me to crochet when I was seven years old. This was the first project I ever made and I still have it. A blanket for my baby dolls bed. Who teaches a 7 year old to crochet a zigzag blanket? Looking back, I realize just how hard that must have been for both of us. She must have had the patience of a saint.  But it did cement my love for crochet.

Today I reorganized the main pantry and knitted a few more mini socks. Nothing really exciting to tell and it has also rained the entire day. Tomorrow I’m planning to bake some muffins made with a weight watchers recipe. Basically you take a can of pumpkin and mix it with a spice cake mix. That’s it, no other ingredients.  You bake it in a muffin tin at 400° until a toothpick comes out clean. I believe they are two weight watchers points. That will be our dessert for Thanksgiving. No pie for us! How are all of your Thanksgiving dinner plans coming? Are you all staying home alone or getting together with family?

Wishing you all a wonderful Wednesday.

Blessings,
Betsy

  1. It will be just the three of us this year at our house. Stephen did drive up from Virginia, but I don't worry about him being a carrier. He works from home and only goes out to get groceries and do curbside pick up at the library. He Covid tested before he came up (as the rules here require).

We usually go down to D.C. to Steve's brother, but this year that is out. They work a home health care business and take quarantine VERY seriously too. So, we will see them maybe in the spring.

In the meantime, we'll have our very small family dinner and enjoy being together here.

Wishing you and Dennis a very happy Thanksgiving.

  4. I wouldn't be able to pick out a couple of blogs either, they are all so different and inviting in so many different ways. I love that you still have your first project crocheted with your Grandmas and the bag is adorable.

  7. I'm glad you didn't pick 3 favorite blogs as I'm sure the ones named would be happy, it also could make all the others feel left out. I love the darling purse your grandmother made and also your adorable first project. I bet it was hard at 7.. the ripple can be quite a challenge even for experienced crafters! I hope your day tomorrow is wonderful.

  8. I love the afghan you made for your doll. I've never quite mastered the ripple so I can imagine how difficult it must have been for a seven year old.

  9. I have used that recipe to bake muffins and donuts! It really works and is easy to make with kids.

We are staying home and eating ham. I figured it would make sandwiches all weekend and I can dice and freeze the rest for casseroles. We normally go to my oldest daughter's house where she hosts our whole family and her husband's whole family. She has set up a zoom meeting at 1:30 and we had to download an app to play games while zooming. We will see how that goes LOL.

  12. I LOVE your grandma's purse!! And your little doll blanket is so sweet. Bless your dear grandma for giving you a lifetime of love for knitting and crochet. // I've been making that kind of recipe for years!! I started buying gluten-free cake mixes a long time ago and either using just applesauce, canned pumkin, or whatever pureed fruit I felt like fixing. No oil, no eggs, no sugar. Soooooo delicious! And my favorite cake mix to use is spice cake! // I did the same thing about the blog-picking. ;) Be blessed and well, my friend!!
