Snow?

I had planned to have a day in today but then I heard the forecast tomorrow is for snow. So I changed those plans and went to the grocery store this morning instead of tomorrow as planned. Even though I didn’t get there until after 10:30, it was still very quiet. Usually I try to go around 7:00 in the morning and I can just zip around the aisles and get what I need and be gone. I think grocery shopping is my least favorite chore of all time, so I like to get it done quickly.

After returning home, I cleaned everything off of the kitchen counters and scrubbed them. I had done some small appliance removal before I left the house. I decided the blender and food processor are not used often enough to have a prime place on the kitchen countertop. When we moved into this house, we had much more counter space than in our last house. I wanted to have clean counters without a lot of clutter. Ha! They are always jampacked with stuff and I have decided that I have had enough. They look much better, but could still use more decluttering.

Today I’m sharing our nativity with you. Many of you have already seen it in past years. I made this 40 years ago for the first Christmas we were married. All of these years and not one piece has ever been broken! Isn’t that amazing? I had an in-home daycare for years and years when we lived in Omaha and still, nothing was ever broken. This will definitely be passed down to Mandy someday. The little figures even have their eyes painted on!  I definitely have to say that of all the things I have ever made, this has the most sentimental value to me.

“But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.”
Luke 1:30-32

Blessings,
Betsy

  1. I always enjoy seeing the lovely nativity you made. It reminds me of the one my mom made that my sister Margaret now has. Displaying the nativity reminds me how glad I am that Christ came into the world because He loved the world and wanted whoever would believe in Him to have everlasting life. xx

  2. The white nativity I posted early this week is the same set as yours - no broken pieces as well. I put it out every year. My niece gave it to me in 1979. It's supposed to be snowy here all weekend. Two inches of fresh snow on the ground this morning.

  3. Sorry you're having snow tomorrow, I know how you dislike it. I like seeing it and think it's pretty and fun, but we don't get much so it's a novelty. I love the nativity you made. It's really well done, you are quite the artist! We're working on decluttering our counter tops, too. Kind of reclaiming the kitchen as it were. I'm decorating at a slow pace but plodding along. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  5. Aw, your nativity is just beautiful! And, your kitchen is, too! I know what you mean. I cherish clean, open counter tops. Since we have minimized so much, it makes me so happy not to see any clutter, and when I get ready to cook, all is clean and ready to be used. The less you have, the less you have to worry about is my philosophy. We are doing a coffee giveaway at my blog, in case you or Mandy are interested! Have a blessed night!

  6. I did in home daycare for years when my kids were small before I went back to teaching. That was hard work!

  7. The nativity is stunning, made with love. The real reason for Christmas. I have been working on decluttering but for some reason I clear everything away and then it starts creeping back. I am not a fan of snow either. I do think it looks pretty and makes for some stunning photographs but I am not a fan of travelling in it.

  8. I need to do my counters for sure! Your kitchen is lovely. I put the recipe for the pumpkin cream cheese bread in a comment to you on my post. Glad you got your 'supplies' before the snow flies!

  10. Hope your snow isn't too deep!! Love your Nativity set Betsy - what a treasure.

I'm getting edgy about ALL the clutter in our house. Maybe this weekend I can tackle some of it.
