Surprise Snow

Good Morning!

It rained most of the day yesterday, but about bedtime it changed to snow which was NOT predicted for us.  Snowqualamie Pass heading toward Seattle was closed in both directions because of cars off the road.  It took everyone by surprise and was especially inconvenient because it was the big football rivalry game for Washington yesterday, so lots of people were driving over the roads...in both directions.  The bus carrying the University of Washington’s band members actually turned over on the way to the game.  The news said that no one was seriously hurt, but many were taken to the hospital.  Washington State University’s band learned the other team’s song over a couple of hours in the morning and played on behalf of the other team.  Although we aren’t football fans, even we know that this is THE game of the year for these two teams and the rivalry is high.  It was good to see the cooperation and compassion this year as all were trying to help each other.  Unfortunately, our eastern side team lost but there’s always next year. :-)

We’re having a quiet day here at home.  I put away fall decorations yesterday and Dennis brought up just a few Christmas boxes today.  We’re not putting a tree up this year.  I just don’t have the heart for it without kids coming home and my back will thank me for it too.  I’m just putting up the Nativity and a few sentimental favorites.  Not the “NOEL” cups though, because they make me cry without Jamie changing them to say “LEON” every morning like he did as a child.  It always made me smile.  Here are the few boxes I will put out.  Actually the top box has my seashells, etc. that are usually out all year.  I had already emptied it of Christmas when I took the picture.

I finished the seventh block on the KAL yesterday.  I think its one of my top two favorites so far.

Now a quiet afternoon of knitting mittens for Piper is planned along with some Netflix.

Mandy and Piper are with Brad’s family doing their annual Christmas cookie baking today.  She sent me several photos, but this one was by far my favorite.  Piper is wearing a shirt Papa bought her, a sweater I knitted and an apron I gave her.  It makes me feel just a little like I’m there too having fun with everyone.  I so appreciate that right now because I am struggling a bit this year.  Look at our cutie, missing teeth and all!

I hope you’re all having happy and relaxing Saturday everyone.

“When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

Blessings,
Betsy

  1. The bus accident was on the news this morning...thank goodness no one was killed as it looked awful!
That picture of Piper should be their Christmas card this year...too cute! I have yet to decorate....I don't know which way to turn I have so much to do! LOL! But I will relax and knit tonight for sure! Glad you can cozy up with Dennis and your knitting with the snow blowing outside! My Iowa family is supposed to get a blizzard tomorrow....probably the same storm. It was in the 60's here and gorgeous but I'd trade it for a blizzard any day...as long as I was at home! LOL! Stay warm!

  4. Adorable photo of Piper! Your storm hit here this afternoon - blizzard conditions, roads closed, little visibility. I'm glad I came home yesterday.

  5. I think you need to get a little tree to decorate. :-) We went to Sandy to get my Ford Flex serviced and then went to see how the kids are coming getting their new house set up. Her sister donated a leather sofa and recliner to them which was nice. Then we took our son and the boys out to dinner at Toll Gate Inn while Kristi brought the U-Haul truck back here for another load tomorrow. The beds will go to the new house tomorrow and they will be there henceforth. The boys are very excited to have their own room and own house. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  6. Your golden square is beautiful as is your mysterious joyous little grand dear. We are to have a few days of dryer weather before the next storm blows through. I am sorry to learn of the scares the unexpected snow caused around you. I picked up another bundle of moving boxes, worked on an art project with friends at church and then got some groceries before reading this post and typing to you.
On this Thanksgiving weekend I am so grateful Jesus came to lead us into the light of life. xx

  7. How wonderful to see Miss Piper making the traditional cookies, it is a joy to see her having so much fun. It is hard Betsy when family are not around it is the downside to our move here. Maybe a small tree and put out some of the treasured baubles that link you to family and make you smile. You are in our prayers.

  8. It's been years since my kids have seen my Christmas tree. They all live so far away and we've been gathering at the Grands house for the holiday since they were born. I have just a little tree now that I got from Ikea. All the other stuff stays in their bins. It's a tough holiday after the kids have all flown away and the elders have all passed on, isn't it? It's not even December and I've already got my Christmas blues.

  10. How scary for those band members, I had not heard about that even with all the football I watched yesterday. I am all about no tree, but would be seriously vetoed on that. Piper is adorable, such a beautiful sweet soul she has.

  11. Hi Betsy, Sorry you are down and back problems still That picture of Piper is adorable. Isn't it great that our kids can share pictures with us. We are suppose to get snow tonight or tomorrow. It has been rainy and dreary. I think you should put up a little tree as the lights at night and even in the day are so cheerful. The kids that live here put up and decorated ours for us. So thankful as with the CFS and cough left from the bronchitis I am tuckered. Nancy

  12. I heard about the bus accident and saw the rival band practicing the fight song on facebook. Good of them to do that! Our rival team had big win...Ducks against Beavers....bleah! One of Megan's co-workers and husband were in a car accident in NV and they are ok but their car is mangled badly! We had fog yesterday and some today although lifted some before we went to church. Still chilly though so glad to be inside with the heat on! Piper is adorable...love that photo!
    Take care my friend!
