Frosty Morning

Good Morning!
We had a frosty morning here today. It was 18°F when I woke up. I just took this photo of the flowers on our front steps. All things considered, as cold as it has been here the past week, they are still looking pretty good.
I was going to try to save the geraniums over the winter, but I have never had much luck with that, so I decided just to leave them and enjoy them out front until they die. I think they still look pretty good don’t you?  Granted, there are getting to be some brown leaves in there but for the middle of November, I’m not complaining.

There was definitely a lot of frost on the trees and on the ground this morning.

I just got home from a trip to the vets office with Chloe. It was her semi-annual blood work that she has to have done because of her arthritis medicine. She loves to go to the vet. She happily follows them everywhere. Here she was trying to follow the tech out the door into the hallway. They all love her there.  I have even had a couple of the techs tell me in the past that if we ever had to get rid of her for any reason, they would love to have her. There is absolutely no chance of that ever happening as long as I’m alive. She is my baby.

Alex just FaceTimed with me from Beijing. He’s on his way to London to visit his girlfriend. That boy! He’s quite the jet setter. Two weeks ago he was in Germany for a wedding!  He is so good about calling us.  He FaceTime’s with us 3 to 4 times a week.  He is so excited about the tests they are going to do on my back. He has plans for me to be in northern Japan next spring for the Cherry Blossom Festival. His new apartment in Tokyo is within walking distance of where the Olympics will be held and he wants me to come then too.  Wouldn’t it be great if the doctors can fix me so I can do some of these things? Of course I would take all of you along with me. I hope you’re all having a wonderful day.

And a reminder to me when things don’t go quite my way...

“As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mothers womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.”  Ecclesiastes 11:5

Many blessings, Betsy

  1. Yikes!! 18 degrees - I started feeling chilly just reading your blog and seeing the pictures of frost (though it is pretty). I'm surprised your flowers look as good as they do! I trust Chloe's visit was a good one.

  2. Wow, you have such a lot to look forward to once you are fit. I have brought all our geraniums into the porch to over winter them, hopefully they will be safe there. Hope all went well with Chloe.

  3. 18!!!!!! And your flowers are still standing? That's crazy!
Stay warm. We are in a rare nice spell. Not exactly window open weather but not time to crank up the heat either. I'll take it.

  4. I agree with Araignee! LOL! You'd think they be as dead as door nails. Chloe and Nitty are alike....Nitty loves to go to the vet too. Chloe is so cute and How nice that they care for her so.
Your future travel sounds so nice and you should go because when you get to be my age you won't want to. I have no desire to travel or go anywhere....I just love staying home. Isn't that strange...I'm sure that is not true of most people. But if you go I can live vicariously through you!

  5. It was 18° here this AM, too, and the remainder of the day was gorgeous. I've never had good luck over-wintering geraniums. They go into shock and it takes forever for them to bounce back.

  6. Betsy, you should try putting both of those pots in the garage. Don't water them all winter. In spring you pull them outside, pluck off all the dead stuff, water them and see what happens. Our begonias die back to nothing and come back. Our geraniums die back to stubs and come back. It's worth a try!! I'm thinking your son should add you to his travel schedule. Tell him I said so. LOL! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  7. We had a chilly night Wednesday and thankful I had my crocheted hat in the car as I put it on after I got off work..BBBRRR! Chilly tonight as well but a nice looking day outside. I need to get my crocus bulbs planted this weekend and pull in a few plants into the garage, especially the cannas as they can live over to spring inside. It was fun to talk with Alex on face time when we were there visiting. Glad he's doing well and having fun travelling too. Hope you are well enough to travel soon! Hugs my friend!

  8. My Mom has been doctoring with her back, I finally took her to a Pain Clinic. She is having testing required by medicare, 2 tests on the right and 2 on the left where they inject some novacaine to see if an ablation will work on her pain, so far the right side will be helped. The Doc says she has pain from the osteoarthritis in her back. She cannot sleep or stay in bed for more than a couple of hours. The ablation will block the pain signal...and it may last 9 months to a couple of years.
Just thought I would share that info with you.
Some people take their Geraniums out of the soil, and put them in a paper bag for the winter in a dry cool Mom puts most of hers in pots in a heated garage:) WE have the same kind of cold here in is 3 above F now:(

  9. Mm agree with Teresa that Alex should add you on list of places to visit..
... and go even further and say a winter Christmas with you ... not Japan or any other country. With his expert jetsetting skills it would be a cinch!
Am praying much dear sis, if Lord should so will your back would okayed by whatever is needed to travel over to see him in his abode. However in interim he could come to mumma! Sez Shaz in Oz, special msg for Alex! ;-)
Sending warming prayer hugs your way,
BTW the dormant technique works for cyclamen ( in reverse seasons) so think the method would work for your babies? Maybe worth another try?

  10. Sounds wonderful! I hope your back is well soon! Nancy

  11. The last two mornings there has been ice on my windshield and yesterday I got my first Fall photo of Mt. Hood with its new snow. I am glad you have good FaceTime visits with Alex and hope you are able to be together somewhere sometime soon...and I continue to ask for and thank God for healing you. xx
