Costco!

I went out early this morning to do some errands.  I had to go to Walgreens for a prescription and then wanted to get pies at Costco. The goal was to be there when they opened so I could get in and out before the crowds hit. Oh my! I got there 15 minutes before opening and they were already letting people in. That place was packed! I did get an apple and a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving.  Here they are sitting on Dennis’s beautiful workbench in the garage. :-) They should stay cool enough there.  Sorry about the glare on the Apple pie.  The lighting in the garage isn’t the best.

I have always baked my own pies and, if I do say so, I made a pretty mean pie crust! But my back just won’t let me stand at the counter long enough to roll out the dough and make the pies anymore. Costco’s pies are actually very, very good and quite reasonably priced. They are huge. The pumpkin is $5.99 and the apple is $9.99.  Very, very reasonable.  I almost couldn’t make them for this price. This is our contribution to Thanksgiving dinner which we will be spending with Jeremy and Alicia and the boys.

I finished the latest square for the “12 blocks of Xmas” KAL. I think this one is my favorite block so far and it was really fun to knit.

We have beautiful blue skies again today although that is supposed to change and we are to have lots of rain on Thanksgiving. The mountains all around us are supposed to have snow. Since Alicia and Jeremy live in the foothills of Mt. Spokane, I’m hoping that this snow bypasses their house. Look at all the berries on the tree in our backyard. All of the trees are loaded like this.

I’ve had a busy, busy morning and so I will reward myself with knitting time this afternoon and some knitting podcasts on the TV.  I went to seven different stores and I have done three loads of laundry. I also paid bills and made several phone calls for Dennis. I think I’ve earned that knitting time! I did buy another roasted Costco chicken for dinner along with a Caesar salad mix and I will bake an acorn squash. That sounds pretty good and fairly easy. I hope you’re all having a wonderful day today my friends.

“ Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.”  Isaiah 25:1

Blessings, Betsy

  1. I am getting all caught up on your posts Betsy. Piper is so adorable with those front teeth out! I think you are right, Piper and Little Buddy would get on together very well. Those pies look delicious. I am happy you are going to be with your adoptive family and enjoy each others company for Thanksgiving. Take care my friend.

  2. You're right - you can't make them for that price. I can make pie crust too, but can't be bothered any more. I ordered a pumpkin pie from a bakery here that is rated the best in Venice. We will see😀

  4. I haven't made a pie in years, but I do love a good pumpkin pie. Given a choice, pumpkin is always my first pick. It's even good baked without a crust.

  5. Those berries are amazing! And the pies are a great buy. My MIL always buys pies at Sam's Club or Costco. I'm always blown away at how large they are.

  6. I like your last patterned block. Yep I'm resting a bit. Did make meatballs and spaghetti for my bro...enuf for 3 freezer meals. Making one for us to eat before I leave tonight. Froze overnight and rain coming Wed and Thurs. Megan got a pie from Safeway bakery already and it's in the freezer. Pull it out Wed. Gotta go load my car. Hugs and a blessed holiday week to you and Dennis!

  8. Those pies were baked with care by someone, even if it wasnt you this year!!!! How lovely. I microwave my acorn squash after I pierce it with a fork a few times. THEN I can cut it in half, scoop the seeds out, and add butter and ...maple syrup to the middle. Mmmmmmmmmmmm. Sweet on sweet!!! Bless you Betsy!

  9. You are brave to go into Costco the day before the day before Thanksgiving! Our son is going in there tomorrow after work to get 2 pies for us. Someday I will try to make them myself. My mom was the queen of pies and made the perfect pie crust, she never measured, just used the pastry blender to scoop out the Crisco and dumped in the flour and salt and boom.. yummy. I love the new square. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  10. Those pies look yummy, I haven't been in Costco for a year since they sell large quantities of things, too much for one person. I may go again, those roast chickens are a good buy and they have smoked salmon and other goodies too.

  11. That new square is stunning...love the pattern and the color! We had to go to a far away clinic today and decided to join Costco...we don't get there often but hopefully we will shop there enough to make the membership worthwhile. I got pecans for my Christmas Cookies...I am making Turtles...hopefully! I saw lots of people with pies in their carts. They are larger than normal pies...must be 12 inchers!

  16. The KAL squares are so pretty! Lucky you to have a Costco! I'm not sure there's one in the whole state of AR! LOL! I think there's a Sam's Club (of course as he started in AR) about 2 hours away but it's too far to be of any use to me. The berries are so pretty and the birds will really appreciate them when the snow flies...easy to spot! Have a great Thanksgiving!
