Costco

We made a trip to Costco on Saturday morning. I needed to pick up Chloe‘s prescription and I wanted to buy one of their roast chickens for dinner. By the way, did you know that Costco carries most common dog prescriptions? An example of the savings is that Chloe‘s prescription at the vet would be $47 a month and it Costco I get six months for $93! That is a humongous savings! Well, in addition to the chicken we bought this tin of cookies.

This is a 5 lbs. tin of Danish butter cookies! I’m thinking this should last me most of the winter. I’m trying to cut back on my sweets, but I like a cup of tea and something sweet in the evening.  The plan is to have my tea with one or two of these cookies at night. But oh my goodness! A 5 lb. tin!  It’s huge... everything at Costco is huge.

Here is a photo of the dishcloth I made Friday night, along with the pattern name for you. It’s free on ravelry and crochets up very, very quickly. I think I made this in about half an hour.  I used Hobby Lobby’s “I love this cotton.” And speaking of yarn, I stopped at Michael’s this morning and their yarn is buy two skeins get one free right now,  just in case any of you are interested.

Thank you all so much for the sweet comments on yesterday‘s post. I think my Mom and Dad looked very nice in both photos. It was wonderful to be able to wear her wedding dress. They were married in 1944 and we were married in 1978. The dress was in remarkably good condition, although the veil had pretty much disintegrated so I had to buy a new veil.

Alex had a wonderful time in London.  I think he’s a pretty handsome young man too. He will be 30 years old in December! Where does the time go?  He FaceTimed me this morning for a couple of hours before he went to the airport. I really feel blessed that he includes us in his life so much. Mandy called me twice this morning too! Although our kids live far away, it’s nice that they still want to talk to us and keep us involved in their lives.  Mandy had lunch today at the Olive Garden with Dennis‘s mom, his sister Karen, his niece and Karen’s grand babies. I just love that she has family living so close to do things with. And with Brad’s family there too, they keep pretty busy.  Quite a change from when they were living in Maryland and had no family at all.

I just downloaded the latest square for the blanket KAL a few minutes ago. I’m going to sit down this afternoon and start knitting on that. I hope you all have a wonderful Monday.

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1

Blessings,
Betsy

  3. Hi Betsy, goodness, with you posting every day I missed the last one. I scrolled down and read the other post, your son is really handsome! I make a similar crocheted dish cloth, my name is Ridged Dishcloth. But I like to knit mine as it's the only thing I know how to knit w/o a pattern.. the old grandma dishcloth pattern. I might have to get a tin of those butter cookies too! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  4. Hi There, We don't have Costco here --but we do have Sam's (and they are very similar).... That big container of cookies looks great.... My problem would be stopping with 1-2 cookies.... Not sure that 5 lb container would last me through Christmas.... ha ha

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  5. We have a Costco about 100 miles away so it doesn't pay for us to have a membership...but my brother does so when he comes I have him buy me Tillamook Cheese:)
That tin of cookies should last a long time...I like big tins like that! :)

  6. Today a friend took me out for a bowl of chicken vegetable soup served hearthside at a lovely little cafe on the other side of Mt. Hood. Then she sent me home with a huge gluten free cookie :) Your cookies and tea plan sounds lovely to me! xx

  8. What a beautiful tin, so useful once you have eaten the contents. I have been crocheting a few cloths to pop in with the soap I made, its just a good stocking filler. What a saving on the dog prescription. Take care.

  9. I'm with you. Life is too short not to have a cookie with your tea. I have mine at 3:00. I need to go to Ikea and get my Christmas gingersnaps. It's not the holidays without them.

  11. Alex is so handsome. IT is so difficult when they are abroad. I send you hugs. As difficult as zach's reentry and adjustment has been, he is still in my reach! Selfishly, I just want him to keep adjusting to chicago and STAY. Even when we are driving him back to Chicago after a weekend stay, I have to look at him and be joyful that he is here!!!!!! Allison and Zach have a family thread and we all check in daily. We almost always end up talking too. WE are blessed with strong ties despite the miles Betsy!!! hugs

  12. WE don't have a Costco or a Michael's anywhere around here and Hobby Lobby is 1 1/2 hours away so ordering online is my only option. No sales for me but then taxes here are low but that's because there isn't anything here! LOL! They do have those in the big cities in Arkansas but Little Rock is 3 hours away etc.
I love how your cloth turned out...very nice. I haven't tried it yet...I went back to Grandma's and my favorite dishcloth.
Break's over...back to work for me!
Danish butter cookies are wonderful and I like the European baked goods because most of them still use REAL ingredients...like real sugar, real butter etc.....that's why they taste so good! What a pretty tin...you could use that for a nice sewing basket/tin later. I have to go back and look at your post...I missed it yesterday.

  13. Got behind on reading your blogs. Yes, Alex is handsome. Can't believe some girl has not caught his eye. Danish butter cookies do not tempt me but other things do. Will you freeze up some of them to keep them fresh or will they stay fresh in the tin?
