December 8th

It dawned with a brilliant blue sky and cold this morning with lows in the low teens here in the foothills of the mountain. I took Chloe for a walk this afternoon and I bundled up in my hat, scarf, mittens and heavy coat. Silly me, I hadn’t looked at the thermometer before we left. It was 42°! It was actually hot walking her, and of course we went on an extra long walk because it was so pretty out.  I got lots of steps on my Fitbit from that walk alone, but I was carrying my coat before we got home!  I’m not complaining. That is a wonderful problem to have. 😍

Nita called last night and said they were going to Costco this morning during the senior hour and asked if I needed anything. She picked up some vitamins for me that I forgot last week when I went for Chloe‘s medicine. I was in such a hurry to get out of there and away from people, that I completely forgot. I have to take D3 year round because I have a deficiency of it. A few years ago I had injections and then I took prescription amounts of D3, but now I’m able to take it over-the-counter. I just take more than the normal person. Anyway, it was very nice of her to offer to pick it up for me so I didn’t have to go to Costco again. She said she’s not going back till after Christmas either, because even going during the senior hour there was a line outside. She said if they hadn’t had to pick up prescriptions she would have never gone in.

I was so busy with Nita’s visit, (outside of course), and the walk that I almost forgot my stocking!  Here it was when I finally remembered.  I’ve never had Ferrer Roche before. It was delicious!

We received our Christmas card from Teresa and Dayle today. She has challenged everyone to put photos of the cards on their blog so here it is. Teresa designed the cards herself and she always does such a wonderful job.  I am so lucky to know them personally. They are GREAT people. I’m hopeful that by spring we can go over and spend some time visiting with them and maybe even do some camping together on the Oregon coast.

Alex posted this photo on Facebook yesterday on his birthday. He rarely posts anything on social media except for his business info., so I asked his permission to use it here. We feel so blessed with our three children. Although we all video chatted for Alex’s birthday yesterday, all three of them have been texting each other and me in our family group chat today.  How I miss them all. Some days seem to be worse than others and this has been a hard week for me with missing our kids.  I was talking to Teresa earlier today and I said some days it’s really easy to smile and everything is fine, and then some days you just really miss your family. I know I am not alone in this at all right now and each of you who is missing your family is in my prayers too.

I am so thankful that the Lord understands my heart and he’s there for me to talk to anytime I need him.

I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday. Love to each one of you.πŸ’œπŸ’•πŸ’œ

Blessings and hugs,
Betsy

  1. So nice that you were able to go out for a long walk. I don't do much shopping and if there's a crowd, I find somewhere else to go. Yesterday I saw big groups gathered, and although they were outside, none of them were wearing masks. I don't wear one when I am walking all by my lonesome, but definitely would have one on if I was around a whole lot of people. In fact, I don't want to be close to that many people right now. Don't know what people are thinking. Actually, doesn't seem like they are thinking at all. :/ Very kind of your friends to pick up your vitamins for you. Alex is very handsome. I miss my boys a lot. Take care.

  2. So many gorgeous treats your friend has popped in your advent socks....I so love the idea!! You must be so proud of your family! What a handsome young man your son is!! Great photo! I just know how you feel although I am lucky to have my daughter and grand-daughter 15 mins away from us I haven't been able to get home to see my family in the UK for the last 9 years!! My sisters are not getting any younger and it is niggling me more and more each day that I cannot go home to the UK when it is only a 2 hour flight away. There have been many reasons work committments, economical (not of our making)and now the C19....I love my adopted country but I want to go home to my country to my family even if only for a week! Sorry for the grumble Betsy :-) stay safe Amanda x

  3. Hard to believe you took your coat off!!! That's a very handsome picture of alex and I'm glad you got to video chat with your children. I do remember how much we missed Colin the year he was teaching in South Korea. It's hard when your loved ones are far, far away.

  4. What a handsome young man Alex is. I can't remember if you said he has a wife and children there or not. It's so fun seeing the goodies from your stocking each day.

  5. What a handsome son! I know it is so hard when you can't see your family. And I wish it was safe to even run in a store. We have a large contingent in our town of anti maskers and we are nervous to go anywhere.

  6. "And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of this age." How comforting. The walk with Chloe did you good!

  7. Lol....we've done that too. We think it is freezing and then we have to peel off everything when we get out in the sun.
I'm really missing my family this week as we are expecting a new arrival any minute. I was there for all the other Grands but I can't be there this time. I hate to think of my son going through this all alone with his first born. I am sure he is a wreck. He slept in a chair in the hospital all night with his brother when his first was born. These times are so cruel. I can count the days I've NOT cried on one hand.

  8. It’s been unusually warm here, but I’m not complaining. Actually, it wouldn’t bother me if it stayed this nice for a bit. Alex is a handsome young man. Aren’t those candies so decadent with the hazelnut in the center! Yummy

  9. You hit the nail on the head .........most days I go along just fine, but every once in awhile I miss the kind of life we had back in 2019. I miss being able to call Stephen and say we are coming down for the weekend. I miss KNOWING that stores will be open and have what I want. Then other days I feel lucky that I have a good roof over my head, food on the table and plenty of projects to keep me busy.

  10. How nice that you and Chloe had a lovely walk ( even if you had overdressed a bit). Nice too that your friend picked up your vitamins saving you a trip to Costco. My GD asked me if I wanted to go along with them to Costco ( I don't have a membership) but I said I better not go. Just too many people.

  11. It was 70 here today and lovely! Happy Birthday to your son. What a handsome guy! Sorry you miss your kids. I stay so busy I don't have time to fret over anything much. Is that your friend's real living room in the photo? It's beautiful! Enjoy your Advent!

  12. I'm glad my card arrived in good time. I'm also glad it was warmer thank you expected, better than being frozen! We got the tree finally and have it almost all decorated. I know you know how important the tree is for my emotional well-being. LOL! I do hope we can hang out again in the spring or summer. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  13. I have been so wrapped up in what's going on with the kids and grandkids (you know) and neglected to say thank you very much for the beautiful Christmas card you sent -- it arrived that day before Thanksgiving!! We haven't received Christmas cards for many years, although I continued to send a few for a while even after other people had stopped. // Jerry and I have had to be dressed warmly for the outdoors when we leave in the morning this week because the temps are in the 30s but by the time mid-afternoon hits it's been in the mid-60s! That will change by Saturday as they're saying we're going to have some snow. we'll see what happens! // I wish your family were closer so you could see them all in person!! Sending you lots of love and prayers, my sweet friend!! Hugs!!

  14. How handsome Alex is, belated Birthday wishes to him. Like you I am missing the family dreadfully but I console myself that at least they are well and safe. Glad you were able to get out for a good walk and that you had a doorstep visit. It is so good to keep in touch with friends. Take care and stay safe.

  16. Now you have inspired me to think about setting up a family text chat with my kids. I am not in contact with my oldest daughter's family yet, but I text and phone with the others and would like to have more frequent interaction with them...especially in this time of physical social distancing. I got out for a walk yesterday and then today before it started raining and our high today was 40. I am so grateful we have God's word to guide us!!!
