December 13th

This weekend sure went fast didn’t it? We had a lovely afternoon. We went to the drive-by parade for Aunt Tina. There were about 20 to 25 cars in all that went by. People were leaving her bouquets of flowers and lots of little packages and cards. She was overwhelmed. She stood on their front porch crying and waving and shouting that she loved us all. It was wonderful!  Afterwords we went through Dairy Queen’s drive-through and picked up their six dollar special chicken lunches for us and Larry and Nita. We very rarely eat out anymore so this was a special treat. We ate lunch with them since they are the only people in our “bubble,” then came home and had a cozy afternoon in the RV.

The snow stopped while we were out driving around which was very nice, then started again almost immediately after we got home. Another 3 inches fell in just a few hours and it’s still coming down out there. It’s supposed to be in the upper 30s and 40s later in the week though so I don’t think it will last very long.

My sock today contained candy and earbuds. What a great gift. I keep some next to the bed and now I can have a set to put in my Knitting bag.
I knit 2 1/2 pair of mittens today. I need to knit six pair in total to be caught up through this weekend. I didn’t do mittens the last several weeks because I was trying to finish Christmas gifts. The sweater is being put in the mail tomorrow morning. I forgot to take a picture of it and it is already gift wrapped and in the box, sealed and ready to go to the post office! Hopefully the recipient will take a picture of themselves and send it to me.

You can see the little tray that sits in my lap and holds all of the bits and bobs I need to make mittens. Sorry it’s so dark on the right side. It was almost 10:00 when I took this photo and it’s been dark for over 6 hours already. 🀷‍♀️ I have a sock making kit that I keep together in its own little bag so I can grab it and keep it right with me as I’m making the socks. I have a crochet hook for picking up stitches. There’s also a stitch holder for holding the live thumb stitches and two stitch markers for the thumb gusset. There is a darning needle and a little pair of scissors and 8 dpn needles in sizes US 5 and 7.

This is the view if I look to my left from my chair. I really do love our cozy little home. If you look on the table by the poinsettia plant, there is an absolutely beautiful handmade card that I received from Connie at the “Far Side of Fifty” blog over on my side bar. She hand makes all of her cards and they are stunning. So much work is put into each one. Thank you Connie.

Teresa asked me what that little thing was behind the Santa in the picture I drew that was in yesterday’s blog. It’s a glass of milk that is spilling out all over because he’s running, and the round thing above it is a plate full of cookies that are also flying all over! See, I told you I wasn’t a very good artist! Ha!

Wishing you all a happy and safe Monday. Wear your mask and wash your hands!

Blessings and love,
Betsy

  1. So cozy!!! Everyone is all excited about the winter storm heading our way this week but it looks like it will just miss us. That's twice now this year that the areas south of us get more snow than we do. What's up with that?

  10. I bet your friend will never forget her parade of love and kindness. I loved seeing your view from your chair, very festive and you can use that string of socks forever! Dayle is off running errands. I'm enjoying some alone time, actually. The lights are on on our front porch and it's sparkly and colorful inside. I really love this time of year. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  14. Your friend is sure to keep the birthday drive-by memory forever! Such a thoughtful thinggfor everyone to take part in! Jerry and I got out for a couple hours this afternoon because I needed to grab a few things at walmart and aldi. Jerry works on his word search puzzles (I get him a couple $1 books of 200 puzzles at dollar general each month to keep his brain working) while I run into the stores. It was much too cold to try walking at the fairgrounds today, but maybe at the end of the week when it gets back in the 50s. Jerry has gotten into the habit of going to bed at 8:00 (not necessarily to sleep yet though) because it being dark so early now makes for such a lonnnnng evening. I go too but I read blogs for a while, or look at crafts or whatever for a ling time before my meds finally start making me drowsy, then I have to quickly try to sleep or I miss my window entirely. Ok now that I've written my novel 🀣 off to another blog ! G'night dear friend! Stay well and be blessed!! ❤️😁

  15. I enjoyed your description of the drive-by birthday celebration you attended. I don't know if you saw the photos in my November post of the one I attended. It was for a friend from church who is in her mid-seventies...she was so surprised and it was delightful to be able to honor her...a wonderful giving woman who happens to knit, too! πŸ˜„πŸ§Ά Your mitten making kit is a great idea! I have a little zip lock bag with stuff to make a double thickness potholder that I had been lugging around with me...when I was out and about...which I have not been much this year! But I did finish another double thickness hot mat yesterday to gift...Yea! Setting my mind on things above... πŸ’œπŸŽ„πŸŒŸπŸ™
