December 4th

Can you believe it’s December 4 already? This was my stocking surprise for today.

More yummy candy. I have always liked the marshmallow candies that are covered in chocolate, but I rarely have them for myself. I would buy them for the kids Easter baskets and Christmas stockings though.

This is the back of the sweater that I’m working on. I have finally gotten it past the beginning of the arm holes!  First off, don’t worry. It’s not a problem with your eyes.  I’m sorry the photo is a little blurry. I didn’t take it until almost 9:30 at night and since our sun sets well before 4:00 in the afternoon now, it was pretty dark inside. Turning on the overhead lights just makes everything glare. Right now we only have about seven hours of daylight and I don’t always remember to take my photos during that amount of time. I apologize. We make up for it in the summertime though when it doesn’t get dark until about 10 and the sun is up shining again by 4 in the morning. I love the summers here.  Anyway, the back of the sweater is almost finished. I only have about four more inches to go before I shape the back of the neck and start the front.

I had a very quiet day today. It was so cold this morning when I woke up. I took Chloe for her walk about 7 am  and then came back home and put my jammies back on and climbed back into bed where I read blogs and wrote some emails. It was nice and toasty warm there under the quilts. Afterwards, I did a couple of loads of laundry and cleaned the RV.  I had the afternoon to knit on the sweater back. I have to admit, cleaning this RV is much easier than cleaning that four bedroom house and leaves me a lot more time to knit and crochet.

I’m also doing a virtual Bible study with some ladies from our church. We all watch the video together on Zoom and then there are lessons every day in a workbook that we do on our own. It’s called the armor of God and it’s by Patricia Shirer.  I’m finding it fascinating based on the things happening in our world today. She wrote this several years ago, but it’s so appropriate.

How are you all holding up out there? I pray for you all every day to be safe and healthy. I heard this afternoon about one of the ladies who I’ve watched on her podcasts for quite some time. She was rushed to the hospital today and admitted with a problem with her esophagus and she is in very serious condition. Her name is Kayla and she is such a sweetheart. She has Raynauds and various other health issues and could really use your prayers. As we were told, it will take a miracle for her to be okay.  She has lost half of her fingers from Raynauds and she still does the most beautiful crochet work you can imagine.  She is a believer and would love to have your prayers.๐Ÿ’œ

Oh! I almost forgot to tell you a story.  I had just driven back into our spot at the RV park this morning after dropping some mail in the drop box at the post office. Just before I got out of the car I happened to glance back for some reason.  About 15 feet away from me there was  a wolf staring right at me! Now, I was in the car with the door shut, but I think my heart stopped for a minute! As I sat there pondering what to do, three more wolves came out of the woods behind him and they all trotted right past my car, through our campsite and up the road.  I waited a minute or two and then I jumped out of the car and ran to the RV, unlocked the door and slammed it behind me. I didn’t take Chloe outside for quite some time after that. I have never seen wolves around here and I thought they were found more in Montana. I have seen black bear, brown bear, mountain lions, cougar and deer in our campsite at the lake, and even the odd coyote. But never a wolf. That shook me up a little bit. They are beautiful creatures though. They look so proud and strong and they stare right at you with their piercing eyes. That was my excitement for the day. That was enough.

Take care and enjoy the beauty of the day around you. There is ALWAYS beauty if we look.

Blessings and love,
Betsy

  1. You're going to have a lot of snowmen after opening your stockings! What an amazing story of the wolves walking by you! We have coyotes here but have never seen a wolf. That's what you get for living so far up north! LOL! You sure do knit fast, my friend. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  2. I have done the Armor of God bible study a few years ago with some women from church. I really liked it. I am enjoying the online bible study "One Thousand Gifts" written by Ann Voskamp. I was able to get her book today as I need to stay off my electronic devices at times, due to eye issues while reading too much. Study guide is a good thing to write in as well. I am sure I'd be a bit frightened if I saw a wolf out of nowhere and more after him. They must be going on a vacation!!! HA! I hope they aren't around much. Have a good night, or day, whenever you read this.
    Hugs!!

  4. I’m always on the look out for gators at night. Needless to say I don’t wander too much after dark. It’s like you know the critters are out there, but seeing them is something else!

  5. Holy smokes! Wolves? That must have really been something to see up close.
I love those marshmallow snowmen and the Easter bunnies too but I haven't been able to find them around here in years. They are so nice and chewy especially when they are stale...lol.

  6. I can't believe how much she fit in those little stockings!
I would have loved to see those wolves. They are beautiful creatures, but you are right, they deserve respect.
They are usually quite wary of humans, so it's definitely surprising to see them turn up in the park. Do you have coywolves in your area - they tend to be more bold than regular wolves.

  8. I have seen that piercing stare...wow a pack of them too. You better have a walking stick with you when you walk Chloe. Gene has one that has a point on the end to stick into the ice or snow and it is pretty sharp...he used to carry it all the time when he and Chance walked...Chance was old then and would never have been able to run or fight off a wolf or coyote. Wolves have a pretty large range so maybe they were just passing through. Stay safe...and we though covid was bad enough to worry about now you have wolves:(

  10. Wonderful fun to eat the marshmallow candy-I love those, too!
The sweater is going to be a beauty-I love the classics!
The wolves are indeed a heart-stopper! Wowza! Glad you are okay but putting off Chloe's walk was a very good idea!

  11. I would have been both fascinated and scared at the sight of those wolves so close by. I hope everyone keeps pets on a leash when they go out late in the evenings. I don't imagine a wolf would turn down a free meal.

  13. Oh my! What a fright to see those wolves so close to you in the RV park! I'm so relieved that you are unharmed though shook up. I am not the outdoorsy type at all so any wildlife is a stretch for me! Do take care!

  14. I’ve done the Armor of God study twice and loved it each time. I was invited by a friend to do the study at her church and then I led the study at my church a few years later. Praying for your friend. My mother has the same issues. She has scleroderma and these complications can be so painful. We live in the country in SW Virginia, so we see a lot of bears, deer and the occasional coyote. But never a wolf. I would have been scared to death!! I am trying to get some last minute gifts crocheted. Have a blessed weekend.

  16. (It's "Raynaud") :) Adding Kayla to pur prayers! // We have wolves, coyotes, mountian lions in Kansas. I've seen them all here, and some quite close. For some reason they make the news even though they're quite common and seen all the time. Guess some reporters don't know that. Apparently there have even been a couple time folks have seen a bear or two. // We're okay. Just very tired and worn out from everything happening this year, especially the past couple months. We keep you guys in our prayers also!! Be blessed, my friend!!
