December 23rd

Happy Christmas Eve, Eve! I didn’t even know there was such a thing until I heard it today on the radio. Here is my stocking from this morning. More yummy candy and a bottle of essential oil in the fresh linen scent. It smells very nice.

After dinner tonight, Dennis asked me if I would like to go look at Christmas lights. He knows I love to drive around and see them. Our snow is all gone, although it did turn bitterly cold again during the night last night. It is 14°F right now on our outside thermometer.  I took a few photos to share with all of you. The creativity of people never fails to amaze me. I hope you like the following pictures as much as I enjoyed our drive, although the photos don’t do justice to them.

This one looks so elegant with all of the white lights.

The following three are all the same house. Usually the homeowner is outside dressed as Santa handing out candy canes. This is the first year he wasn’t there. He probably thought it was better to keep his distance this year because of the virus.

Look at the inside of this bay window. It’s all set up as Santas workshop.

There was even more on the other side of the garage, but we didn’t want to hold up the line of cars that were driving by. Can you even begin to imagine the hours he takes setting all of this up?

I hope you enjoyed our little drive to see the lights tonight.

I did start the sweater for Dennis this evening. Nancy, at “Wyoming Breezes” over on my side bar emailed me with the name of the sweater and the date I had posted about it. She was a lifesaver! I could not find it anywhere. Thank you again Nancy. I really appreciate your investigation skills. In case you’re interested, it is the Adirondack Pullover by Elizabeth Morrison. It is a paid for pattern on Ravelry. I’m using Knit Picks, Wool of the Andes worsted weight yarn, in the Cobblestone Heather colorway.  I don’t have much done, but it’s a good start for one evening.

I hope you are all ready for Christmas Eve tomorrow. I know it’s not the Christmas most of us had planned. We had hoped our son Jamie and two grandchildren would be here today, but they decided it just wasn’t worth the risk of bringing the virus to us. Jamie works from home, but both of the kids are in school. I appreciate their concern but gosh, I sure miss my kids and grandkids. However, Dennis and I are determined to still enjoy the day remembering the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

My wish is that you all will have a wonderful and blessed Christmas too.

I’ll see you tomorrow night!
Blessings,
Betsy

  1. Thanks so much for posting, dear Betsy. It is a treat to see the Christmas lights around you! We have a few lights up around our complex, but I haven't been out and about in the neighborhoods around us at night. Bravo for the great start on the new sweater for Dennis. I am crocheting a new baby blanket in double crochet and worked on it this morning during a Zoom meeting online with some of the ladies from church...such a fun way to stitch! 💜🤗🙏

  2. Thanks for sharing the lighted houses.. some very elaborate ones there! We haven't gone out at night looking at them.. we've become such hermits! I'm so glad you found the pattern and could get started. That yarn is so nice, it reminds me of a lot of grey wool and alpaca I spun in my spinning days. I've still got one spinning wheel but am so glad I found a buyer for my really fancy one, it was sooooo difficult to adjust it or "tune" it to run.. it had like 12 different places to twist or tighten. It was no fun for me to use. And our house is not big enough for 2 spinning wheels especially when 8 people were living here. Enjoy your Christmas Eve. We're going to be busy with a dinner for 6. Stay warm and well. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  3. Seeing Christmas displays and lights is always a festive experience. Sadly, there's nothing at all festive happening around here and I've felt mostly like staying home.
    Merry Christmas Eve.

  4. Thank you for sharing the beautiful light show! I never go out at night anymore and no one in my neighborhood has any lights out except me! LOL! The sweater is going to be so nice! You are the fastest knitter! I start my socks on Christmas Eve. I wound the balls last night but hand. Stay warm! IT's 28 here this morning! Brr!

  5. Impressive Christmas lights!! I so remember when I spent Christmas in Chicago with my daughter and grand-daughter back in 2001. It had snowed quite heavily so we wrapped ourselves up well and decided to walk around the area to admire the lights. There were some really serious decorations in those gardens...quite something!! The big family dinners are mostly cancelled for this evening as the restriction has changed to a maximum of 6 people only. Luckily we will be able to have Christmas day lunch with out daughter and grand-daughter tomorrow.
it is all a bit strange but better this to keep the family safe and well. Wishing you and Dennis a Merry Merry Christmas Betsy! xxx Amanda

  8. Wow! You got some great photos. We drove around the other night but my photos were terrible. My phone just can't do night photos at all.

  10. How lovely those lights are!! I'm always amazed at how much time and effort ( and money) people go through to make their homes glitter for Christmas.
I hope you and your husband have a safe and happy Christmas.

  14. Ah weren’t those lights beautiful! So glad you could see them and yes even though our Christmas wasn’t quite as planned we are so blessed to have a Saviour in the Lord Jesus Christ!
“Happiness is to know the Saviour, living a life within His favour, happiness is the Lord.”
So glad Nancy found the pattern for you, I hunted for it on your blog, went back to 2016, but hadn’t named it that I could find.
Then gave up so praise God for clever friends. ❤️❤️

  15. Oh, I did enjoy your light tour! Thank you for sharing the photos. We had planned to go out and look at lights, but we are snowed in and our parking lot is a solid sheet of ice! So, we decided to stay home and enjoy each other today. It has been the best Christmas I can ever remember. God is SO good to us, and our hearts overflow with gratitude to HIM. MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and Dennis!
