She made it!

Zoey did well yesterday and we were able to bring her home about 2:30. She was out of it most of the evening and she whimpered and groaned a lot. She drink some water but wasn’t interested in food at all. That’s definitely not like her.  During the night she whimpered a little bit too, but this morning she seems back to her old self. She hasn’t bothered the incision at all, but we thought we probably should get her used to the collar anyway just in case we need to leave her alone. She doesn’t seem to mind it either. It’s called a Zen Collar. She was 8.2 pounds. That’s less than I thought she was.

I started crocheting this for the prayer shawl ministry at the University of Nebraska Med Center. But then I set it aside because I am knitting a draft stopper for our front door. These cold mornings we’ve had frost on the inside of the door even though you can’t feel a draft. I’m using 100% wool and I plan to just make a long tube and felt it. Have any of you made these? I planned to just put rice in it but do any of you have other ideas?  When I checked Amazon, the cheapest one that I could find was $20. I think that’s ridiculous! I’m sorry about this picture of the shawl, but it is cloudy this morning and there are shadows everywhere.

Today is the funeral for our minister back in Spokane. They are putting it online and we’re very grateful for that. Next Saturday is for Pearl, who is Neal and Jenny’s mom. We are so grateful for the technology that allows us to be part of this from so far away.

This has been my favorite Bible verse for as long as I can remember. The Lord is definitely where I get my strength from.

I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday, with lots of fun activities or just relaxing. Stay safe.

Blessings,
Betsy

  3. Good that Zoey is okay with the collar. Some pups object and try to get rid of it.
Being able to "attend" services whether the reason is that it's too far away or fear of Covid, either way it's great that one can watch it and feel like you're there.

  4. Good news! I bet the wait was awful. We've got that collar for Pup and we use it a lot to keep her from chewing her feet during allergy season for her which is fall.
Arne and Carlos have a draft stopper pattern in their book and they filled it fiberfill. There is a project page for it on Ravelry where you can see what other people did to fill theirs. Some used foam core whatever that is.

  6. Back when we had pets (two dogs and John's cat), we had both the dogs spayed/neutered on the same day; brought them home next morning and they were fine. No collars of any kind. The boy dog walked very daintily for a few days lol. But both did fine, did their grunting and groaning, did more resting for a few days than eating and drinking, but that's normal. It's surgery just like us humans go through and we have to rest also. Don't worry, your doggos will be back to themselves in no time. // I love the color of the shawl. // Please say some prayers for my son, he's going to need surgery (I wrote about it on my blog). // So very sorry for the loss of friends far away. We will pray for their families and you. Hugs and blessings, dear Betsy!

  7. Good evening Betsy, the prayer Shaw is going to be beautiful. So glad that Zoey is doing well. That soft pillowy collar is so much nicer than the cones and I'm sure it'll make her recovery much more comfortable. Now Dennis can exhale knowing she's okay. God bless.

  8. I may be repeating what other bloggers have suggested here but I used rice for the door stop I made which had to be heavy. What I did do was first fill an old stocking with the rice before placing it inside the door stopper as rice can easily poke through fabric or wool even through the seams. I am pretty sure though beans or gravel could be used as well for your draft stopper.I hope this helps :-). Good that Zoey is doing well. She is adorable! keep well. Amanda x

  9. I'm glad Zoey is home and doing well. That collar is so much better than the 'cone of shame' vets use! the shawl is lovely and will be so appreciated! We used to use navy beans to fill the draft stopper--the weight is better than just polyfil.

  11. I made a 1ong door stop for our hundred year o1d home, in I11inois. I think I stuffed it with po1y fi11. THinking back, I shou1d have mixed feathers and beans. That sounds ridicu1ous. Dogs might want to eat the beans. O1d ny1on stockings might work. . Rea11y thick ones. hmmmmmm. YOu rea11y have me thinking Betsy. So happy the pup has the soft protector. I once fostered a dog that needed 100% of my attention after he was neutered at 9 monthss. He wou1d NOT sett1e. HE wou1d do anything to get at IT. Even sedatives bare1y worked. What a week that was. I had some friends for dinner and had to ho1d Cricket on my 1ap the entire time. My not dog friends, were a bit repu1sed I think.

  12. I LOVE that Bible verse, too, and the hymn as well. Glad Zoey is improving today; I'll bet she'll be happy when she doesn't have to wear that cone anymore. Lulu, our grand dog, sure was. That's going to be a beautiful prayer shawl and should bring comfort to its recipient. Nice work. Happy Sunday!

  14. I am glad Zoey is good after surgery! We had freezing fog this a.m and it was ok to drive to church. I like the shawl you are making. Sad you get frost indoors on your door! I am sure your task of crocheting will be good for it! Sorry for loss of your WA pastor but thankful for live feed to watch it. I talked with a lady behind us after church who lost her baby girl at 15 weeks, in her womb. Sad that has happened to her. She has one son. A cute baby with her mom in pew in front of us. 8 month adorable little girl. I met the second mom after class b4 1st service! Have a good week and stay warm my friend!--Becky

  16. So glad Zoey is okay! Good idea with the draft stopper, will you put the rice in plastic bags...since there could be moisture? That is one beautiful prayer shawl:)

  17. Dearest Betsy,
ah dear Zoey, now Dennis can relax his baby is just doing fine :) on computer so no emoticons, am so used to them!

Sorry two dear ones are passed, pray with you for their family and trust they knew the LORD as their Saviour, for then "we sorrow not as those who have no hope". Hope assured of peace joy and salvation, we are rich indeed in Him!

re Sausage Draft stopper as we call the draft thingys, Ive made them and we fill them with sand as its right in our yard, however also seen them filled with styrofoam balls or cushion stuffing.
so take your pick, one of mine need to be relined as keep stitching the wee holes up tht suddenly appear an the sand leaks! the door next to it must a wee pokey out screw I think not figured where how yet!
Sand is weighty and dense, good for a draft stopper and cheap from landscape section and can always use left over somewhere else.

Thanks for Sharing, God bless and keep you safe, and all those you love, hugs Shaz in Oz.x

  18. Aw, I am so thankful little Chloe did well with her surgery. She is so precious! And how wonderful that you can watch the services for your dear friends. SO sad that they will no longer be on this earth, but we know they are rejoicing in heaven with Jesus. God bless all of you who mourn their passing.
