Spring?

Good morning everyone! It’s March 1! That makes me so happy. Spring is definitely in the air this morning. I hear the birds chirping outside and there’s even a bit of blue peeking through.  It’s 50°F outside and it’s supposed to get even a little warmer by mid afternoon.

I was able to get a last-minute vaccine appointment for Dennis for today. About 5:30 on Friday afternoon a friend called and told me there were some appointments available so I quickly got online. I was able to get the next to the last appointment for Dennis. He gets his first Pfizer vaccine at 3:50 this afternoon.  Yay!

I was able to finish two baby blankets in the last week. First was this blue one that I showed you in my last post.

Here is a closer view. I really enjoy doing filet crochet. I think the diamonds make a very nice pattern in the blanket. I’ve made this in solid color yarns and in my opinion, that is even prettier.

Here was another one that I just kind of made up as I went along. I did follow a pattern for the heart but I can’t remember where I got it. I know there are YouTube videos and patterns on Ravelry for crocheted hearts like this. Then I just added rows in the two colors as I felt like it.  There are several people on YouTube making blankets with the hearts in them so I thought I would join along.

Both blankets are about 36 inches square. I think that is a good size to use as a crib blanket. What do you think?

Last night I made these two baby hats. The one on the left is newborn size and the one on the right is for a micro- preemie.

I posted this in Facebook the other day. It sure shows how I feel on some days.😂🤣😂
We were away from the RV for almost 2 1/2 hours yesterday afternoon. I don’t remember how long it has been since that happened. We took Dennis‘s truck to be washed and then drove to the place he’s getting his vaccination today. It’s downtown and on a medical college campus that we’ve never been to before. He didn’t want to be hunting for it today, so we did a reconnaissance trip. We had mail to drop at the post office box and then we went through the car wash again because it didn’t get clean the first time! That’s what happens when you have lots of snow and road gunk. It was fun just to be out driving around town again. It did seem strange though, and there were an awful lot of people out. I actually felt a mild anxiety about being around so many other cars. I don’t think I’m going to be the only one feeling that way as life resumes some sort of normality. We’ve all been cooped up for so long.

We wired the money for the house last week, signed all the final documents and did the walk-through by video. The official closing is supposed to be tomorrow, but for all intents and purposes, it’s ours now. I am anxious to go back and start living life again.
Wishing you all a wonderful first day of March. I hope the weather is as beautiful where you are as it is for us. Blessings,
Betsy

  1. It does feel weird to be around other people even when you are driving around. It's going to take a long time before I am comfortable again around anyone especially strangers. My daughter says the kids she coaches are so stressed from all this. Those who have returned to school are a nervous wreck and those still online are depressed. Therapists are going to very busy when all this is over I am sorry to say.

  2. LOL, that countdown meme is hilarious! Great job on the blankets. Even though I’ve taken lessons, I couldn’t crochet a blanket to save my life. I know what you mean about the anxiety of being in a crowd. I can’t imagine going into a store even if it’s considered safe. Congratulations on the house and scheduling a vaccine appointment for Dennis.

  3. Both baby blankets are lovely.
I hope you'll post how the vaccination affected Dennis. People's reactions have been varied; some quite severe.
It's so exciting about the house now being yours!!! What an adventure will begin when you make the move.
For now the adventure is March. Let's hope it's a great month for all of us.

  4. I'm so glad that you managed to get a shot for Dennis today! And I can relate to just getting out of the house and out and about for a change. I actually want to go for a drive but Dayle wants to start some yard cleanup and start our burn pile which has stacked up. It's gorgeous here too and I've been out once and will go back out for another walk around the farmyard. I adore your diamond blanket.. it's a great way to add interest with variegated yarn. Bravo! I hope you get your shot soon.. maybe your friend could help with yours too? Be safe and happy.. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  5. So glad you were able to book a vaccination for Dennis. Now we need to get you (and us) shot up!! Hopefully not too long. Congratulations, again, on the house. You will have such joy making that your home and being close to so many of your family members. The baby blankets and hats are so cute Betsy. Good for you for doing so much charity knitting!

  6. The blankets are beautiful. I love the purple and white together.

Glad Dennis could get his vaccine. Booking appointments shouldn't be this hard!

Congrats on being a home owner again. Hope your house is everything you hope for and more.

  7. Yayyyy for the house signing, making you that much closer to being there! I love both of those blankets!! I especially like the blue, but that purple heart is sure cute. Your hands have certainly blessed a lot of little lives. I just know God smiles on you daily for your works. Praise the Lord our temps have gone back to the 50s! We're even supposed to have mid- and upper-60s this week! And maybe rain on Friday -- really need that so we can begin preparing the garden areas. I can hardly wait to begin planting and get out of this stuffy apartment! Blessings to you, my friend!

  8. Congratulations - Homeowner! How exciting. I'm sure you are on pins and needles to see it all in person and start making the house a home. What an adventure! And congratulations on scoring a vaccine appointment for Dennis, too. It is a relief to get started on all this. I used to love to eat in restaurants. I wonder how long it will take to try that again. I was just thinking the other night - would I be comfortable using the silverware? It's going to be a new world. I laughed at your reconnaissance mission. We do that all the time. I want to know where I am going before I am actually going there. I used to take my 4-H girls and girl scouts to events and would usually do a trial run the weekend before, just to get the lay of the land.

  9. Hi there Betsy.. glad its not too cold for the last part of winter for you and well done on vac for Dennis, two friends in UK very sick laid up on 5th or 6th day after, wife recovered after two days hubby not so good, they'd be older than Dennis so praying his good health and with God's mercy Dennis will be fine.
Lovely rugs, I've made several about that size when neices nephews were young.
Praying all just fine with your new home when you get there.

  10. I am so thrilled that Dennis was able to get the vaccine, hope all goes well and there are no side effects. Loved the baby blankets 36" sounds like the perfect size for a crib. It does feel a little strange going out and about a little but we still keep away from others, this pandemic will take some getting over. Masks and social distancing will be the new normal sadly. Take care dear friend and stay safe.

  11. I love both your baby blankets! What is the name of the "filet crochet" pattern? I am itching to do some crochet. I've been thinking of a giant granny square to use up my acrylic stash. Did you show a picture of your new home? Did I miss it? I didn't even know you had one picked out. That's my fault for not keeping up with your posts! I'm so excited for you! So you can just unhook your trailer and drive to Nebraska with all your stuff in it? How exciting! Your little hats are so precious. I need to get back to some worthwhile cause handwork. Is that a real creature? It looks like me when I get up in the morning without any coffee! LOL! I'm so excited about your new ho use! I can't wait to see it!

  12. So many circumstances we never expected to face, right?! The blankets and hats are lovely and will certainly be appreciated! I'm not too bothered by being around people unless they walk up too close! lol Great Biblical words of encouragement!

  13. Both blankets are great sizes for a baby! I love the design on the blue variegated one!
Oh I hope all went well with Dennis and his first shot. Things seem to have opened up here I have had two phone calls to come and get a shot.
I hope you can get a shot soon!
Way to go on the house, hope it all went well and you will soon get to visit there! Progress!! Hi to Chloe:)

  14. Oh the purple heart baby blanket....so so sweet Betsy.
I'm so happy that your hubs gets the vaccine. As we wait our turn, each person who does get the vaccine gives me hope. How wonderful that we want it! How wonderful they were able to create it , at the hands of God, in time to save many. Not in time for some. But we will remember this always. Every night I say , "Another day And our family is all healthy"

  15. Hasn't the weather been so lovely the last few days! It does indeed seem that spring is making progress! Your beautiful handiwork is always so amazing to me, you are so industrious and create the most beautiful things to give away. I pray that Dennis has no side effects with his vaccination, and that the Lord continues to help you through all the life (moving) challenges ahead! Many blessings to you dear friend!

  17. Betsy, your crocheted quilts are so pretty and I'm sure the parents will like them to keep baby cozy. We've had warmer days here too. It was cold this morning and I went outside for a bit to talk with my neighbor and his daughter about our tree. Too high and need to be on a ladder and onto roof is not a good thing for him. Still waiting to hear back from other neighbor who does arbor care. He now has my phone number. I just made oatmeal bars (cookies) this afternoon. Smells so good. Phil and I went on a walk. Now I need to make dinner. We like waking when it's still light out. I'm glad you were out and about the other day. Take care my friend and I hope Dennis is ok after his vaccine shot. × Becky

  18. The lockdown photo made me LOL! 😃 Last Friday I had to have the car jump started because it had been so cold and it had been so long since I had driven it anywhere. It was warm and wonderful today and I drove to Sandy and back to do some errands and recharge the car battery. It felt strange to be out and about and there were a lot of other folk out as well which made it seem stranger yet. Your stitching is lovely and 36"x 36" seems like a just right size to me. I'm glad you were able to get Dennis in line for the vaccine. I just started the process for me. I am happy that your moving process is going well...even though personally I wish you could move next door to me! 💜🙏
