The Day after the day after.

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas wherever you may be. Ours was very, very quiet.  It started out on Christmas Eve when we went to our candlelight service at church. We were treated to some special music by a small group of friends.  There was a wonderful message reminding us of Christ’s birth, some singing together of familiar carols and a sweet children’s moment. After lighting our candles and singing “Silent Night” together it was time to go home.

Afterwards, we drove by a couple of houses that were on our way home that were very lit up. I think I saw more Christmas lights this year than I have ever seen before. People seemed to be in the mood to brighten up their homes.  I absolutely love looking at Christmas lights. We went out on three different occasions and just drove around to see the beautiful displays.

The pictures don’t even begin to do these homes justice.

Dennis and I have enjoyed reading scriptures together every night during the month of December and lighting the appropriate candles for advent.  This week all of the candles are lit, signifying our Saviors birth.

We had a surprise snowfall that began yesterday afternoon and continued into the night. This is the sight I woke up to in our backyard this morning. Although it is beautiful, the roads are very treacherous today as it hasn’t warmed up much. I ventured out to Michael’s and the Christian bookstore which are only a couple of miles from our house. I came right back home because the roads were so icy.

Since we’ve been home so much, I’ve been making very good progress on Alex’s sweater. I have finished the body and bound it off early this afternoon.  I’m just beginning the first sleeve. After that I just have to put the neck band on and it will be done. I think he’ll be pleased.

We were able to FaceTime with Alex both on Christmas Eve when he opened his gifts, and early Christmas morning. Mandy also FaceTimed with us and watched us open our gifts from them. It was a good day although it was very quiet. I made chicken enchiladas and we watched several Christmas movies including white Christmas. Dennis had to work the last three days of this week but then will be off for another four-day weekend. It would be very easy to get used to having him home with me all the time and I’m looking forward to his retirement in a few years.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. We’re planning another very quiet holiday for New Year’s, just staying home. I’ve been enjoying seeing the posts that some of you have written about your Christmas. Wonderful memories being made with family and friends.

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13

Blessings,
Betsy

  1. Quiet is good. We had a quiet Christmas day after a busy eve celebration the day before. It was fine. We've NEVER done much on New Years Eve.. preferring not to go out when there are so many drunk drivers on the road. Thank you for being such a good friend.. and you are so good to me.. always leaving a comment on my blog when so many do not. I really appreciate you!!

  2. Always quiet days around here lately it seems. Like Teresa said, quiet is good. I saw on the news yesterday that lots of places were getting some major rain and/or snow. Stay safe. We stopped doing anything on NYE many many years ago. Would definitely much rather be safe at home with pj's on. :)

  3. Our Christmas was fun and quiet. Glad you were in touch with Alex and Mandy. Chilly here but sunshine this a.m. which I enjoyed being by door at work. Lifted my spirits! Hugs my dear friend! Happy New Year to you and Dennis!

  4. So glad the LORD blessed your Christmas Eve service, a great way to remember the real reason of Christmas we had our carols the Sunday evening before and called it carols without candlelight and had all those under 12 come up and sing away in a manger, so very cute!
On Christmas Day we had beautiful Christmas service at 9am and was grateful to be able to make it. Then true next few days out at my family’s place going back for New Years because it’s my nephews birthday, other wise I do quiet too.
I really like to pray in the New year praying over my family and the year ahead for each of them, not sure if will be able to this year.
All is in God’s wise hands as we give it to Him in prayer, how blessed we are to have Him as our Heavenly Father by faith in His Son as our Saviour.
Truly a full circle, Christmas and remembering the birth of our Saviour and then New year and a new page in our life, in which to serve Him.
    Prayer hugs,

  5. Love the picture of the choir and the Christmas lights. They are a lot of work so I really appreciate people that put up decorations plus the extra expense. Your snow is beautiful but be careful. I've never had an advent candle....I will look for one for next year. I've been staying home but the weather is good here and no worries about driving but it did rain yesterday. I don't have Skype or a camera on my p.c. and my tablet doesn't have room for Skype....I guess I need an upgrade. I did get calls though and they opened their presents while I was on the phone so at least I could hear their reactions....I think Grandma 'scored'....they all seemed to like their presents. I've been watching old movies on You Tube in the evening. Have you ever watched The Bells of St. Mary's with Bing Crosby? It's a good one. Happy New Year to you and Dennis! Oh, the sweater is another winner and how do you knit so fast? I couldn't sit that long...I pretty much only do hand work in the evenings unless I take a break but then it's only until I remember more things I have to do! LOL! Have a great weekend!

  6. The snow on that red berry bush is beautiful. It's all just RAIN here today, but I won't complain as I have places to go and people to see. LOL

  8. I prefer a quiet Christmas! Lighting the advent candles is something I enjoy as the tea is brewing in the morning.

  9. It all sounds just lovely. I think anything by candle light is always made even that more special, just because of the quiet, calm, the dancing shadows and the flickers of light. No face is ever as lovely as that bathed in candle light. The pictures are all so lovely. Thank you for sharing sweet friend. Blessings always. ((hugs))

  10. Our out of town son and daughter have left and it is pretty quiet here now too. We all had a wonderful Christmas together though. We do the candlelight and Silent Night at our Christmas Eve service also. Nancy
