This and That

I thought I would share a few things and answer a few questions that I’ve received. I probably won’t be online much over the next few days, so I thought I would take this opportunity while I’m thinking of it! I have so much going through my brain these days that if I don’t do things when I’m thinking of it, poof! It’s gone forever. I sure hope there are others of you like that out there and that I’m not alone.😬💜

I was asked where we bought our living room furniture in my last post. It was from Nebraska Furniture Mart, which Connie guessed correctly. It is the biggest furniture store in the region now from what I’m told. We bought furniture from them over 43 years ago when they were just a normal little furniture store. My goodness it has grown! The rug was purchased from Costco and I bought the curtains from Amazon before we even chose the furniture. We have ordered a sofa for the family room from Nebraska Furniture Mart also, but isn’t supposed to be in until September.

First off, I finished Miss Piper’s blanket. Here it is all folded up on the bed in her room. Most of my quilts are coming in the POD so I just have a granny afghan as her bed cover right now. The teddy bear is mine from when I was a little girl. He’s pretty threadbare in places but I still love him. Those three gray furry pillows and the black one also came with the living room furniture. I have four pillows on the loveseat and sofa now which was more than enough. Who needs seven pillows?!!

A little bit closer look at the border. It’s just simple single and double crochet. The size should be big enough for her double bed.

When I mentioned the toilet in the basement that has no sink and no place to really put one, several of you suggested this handy little toilet tank lid that takes the water you wash your hands with and fills the tank for the next flush. Thank you so much! I don’t know why I didn’t think of this myself as many, many of the toilets in Japan use the same kind of tank lid. I have this one in my Amazon cart for Dennis to look at when we get back home. This would solve all of our issues wouldn’t it? And it’s under $100! It still wouldn’t be an actual bathroom but at least you could wash your hands.

A good friend at our church in Spokane sent me this picture of my handsome hubby speaking for the last time to the congregation there last week. It’s very sad to leave them all. This same friend was just diagnosed with a brain tumor late Sunday night. Her name is Marilyn and I would really appreciate prayers for her. She beat breast cancer a few years ago and it really saddens me to think of her going through even more illness.

I thought the picture below was beautiful. I love the colors of the flowers and the “Flutter-bys” as my mom always called them.

Wishing you all a lovely week. It’s very, very warm and humid here again today so I hope you are all finding a way to stay cool.
Blessings and love,
Betsy

  1. Piper’s blanket looks cozy - nice job! Flutter by is a more appropriate name for the winged creatures that make me smile whenever I see them. Healing prayers for Marilyn.

  2. That toilet tank lid combo is the neatest thing and so practical and as a plus it saves water. I have never seen one like that before! The things I learn while blogging ...amazing! Another thing that you mentioned Betsy is something I have never thought and that is having a ceiling fan as wells as AC in the same room. There are sometimes, especially, in August, when the AC just isn't enough here. Do you know I think that sometimes just a simple border is all that is needed as the finishing touch and what with the lovely pattern you have used and the gorgeous colour I think you can be more than proud of this blanket. It will look splendid on her bed. You aren't alone! I also do the same. I try to do things at that very moment when I think of them because I'm scared I'll forget. Unfortunately this leads to trying to do several things at once which don't always get finished...tch! A very good photo of Dennis :-) He looks confident and at ease although I expect he must be finding it quite hard to say goodbye to all your friends.

I am sorry to hear about your friend. take care Amanda x

  5. Piper's afghan is lovely. Teddy is cute too. I have a rather threadbare panda that was my Mom's and then mine.

  6. You are not alone...I have to write everything down and then remember to read it! LOL! Piper's bed is lovely with the blue spread...she will love it! That sink over the toilet tank is amazing! I've never seen anything like it! I'll definitely pray for your friend. Take care!

  7. That toilet thing is really cool. I'm glad you found something to solve your hand-wash problem. It really is such a good idea.

Congrats on finishing Piper's blanket. I know she'll love it.

As for the forgetting things ... I can guarantee you are not alone. LOL

  8. Jerry and I have always called them "flutter-bys"... now the grandkids all say the same thing. I've written stuff down on paper for many years. My son asked why I don't use my phone for notes and lists... I said because I prefer the old-fashioned way of hard copy, plus I can write faster than I can tap it out on the phone, and on the phone keyboard I try to go so fast that it all becomes gobbledygook anyway lol. // I miss my childhood teddy bear, but alas, I loved him to literal pieces. // I really love the colors of that afgan! And the blue of Piper's blanket! // Jerry and I will keep Marilyn in our prayers!! // Here's hoping you have an uneventful flight to WA and a wonderful trip back home to NE with Dennis! // Much love and many blessings to you, Betsy!

  10. Your crochet skills amaze me! All your stitches looks so neat and even. I am in awe.
I can certainly join you in the forgetful club. I spend all day walking around trying to remember what I am supposed to be doing. I need to start carrying a notebook and writing everything down. It's so annoying.

  11. That's quite the toilet tank lid for your basement bathroom. Good idea! Your crochet afghans are so nice. I am sure Piper will like them. I think I may have met Marilyn at bible study when we were visiting you in Spokane. I will be praying for her to heal from the cancer. My friend Beth is going through chemo again as she as a tumor in one of her lungs. She's losing her hair again. Sad but God is with them and just makes me sad. Megan lost a friend this weekend who died of brain cancer. I need to go water plants outdoors. Rhodie bush looks better as Megan watered it really good last evening. It's been quite dry lately. It's not rained yet even though it was supposed to rain. Take care my friend and have a good trip to WA and back to NE! :'}

  12. If I didn't write down the things I need to do they just wouldn't get done. I'm lost without a list.
The finished blanket is so lovely. Piper will treasure it I'm sure.
I hope soon things will get back to normal for you. Stay safe and well.

  13. I forget everything these days. Go to a room to do one thing and wind up doing something else and then hours later I remember the thing I meant to do in the first place. :/ love the giant granny and I'm sure Piper will be ecstatic about her finished blanket. Sounds like everything is coming together over there slow but sure. The small hand sink over the toilet is an awesome idea. Toilets use so much water with just one flush and water is such a precious resource. Sending healing light and energy to Marilyn. Blessings to all.

  15. Just catching up with several of your posts Betsy, you have made that house into a beautiful home in such a short time. Love the blanket for Piper, what a stunning colour and I just love the pattern. Goodbyes are always sad but it must be nice to be back with family. So nice that you are flying up to be with Dennis for the long drive back. Take care and safe travels.

  16. Prayers for Marilyn. What a wonderful photo of your husband!

I thought about the toilet lid sink when you last posted, but I had only seen them in British blogs or magazines. I did not even know they were available here! Blog friends are the best, aren't they.

    Beautiful afghan.

  17. I like to do stuff right away so I don't forget, I think it comes with age. Piper's blanket is beautiful! That stitch is so pretty. Dennis looks good speaking to a bunch of people! That lid would certainly work but so would a container of disinfectant wipes.

I need to get some pain ting du=one before that so I am in no real hurry, still it is a long time to wait. Take some deep breaths my friend, you have been so, so busy. Love Piper's blanket.
