Huge News!

We are putting our house on the market later this week! Who would have thought we would be doing this just a week ago? For reasons too numerous to list here, we have decided to put our house on the market and see what happens. We are planning to live at the lake for the rest of the summer and then move our trailer into an RV park close to town and live in it for the winter. That should be an adventure with the kind of winters we have! I am desperately trying to look on this as an adventure and a huge leap of faith. We came home yesterday after watching the live stream of our church while at the lake and started packing things. We completely tore our house apart in less than three hours yesterday afternoon.  We took four loads to the Goodwill yesterday and I mean loads! It is packed to the brim and in every nook and cranny of the vehicle. I have another load to take this morning and there will definitely be more this afternoon.

Alicia and the boys are coming today to help me get it ready and stage it. It has been a definite whirlwind. Another house on our block went up for sale last Thursday afternoon and by the end of the evening it had multiple offers and was sold for well over the listing price. Since we are planning to move back to Nebraska after Dennis retires in a year or two anyway, we thought maybe we should take advantage of the market now. Who knows what will be happening in another two years. Our trailer is like a small apartment and I haven’t been home in over a month anyway. If our weather was milder we wouldn’t even have a second thought about doing this. Our severe winters have caused hesitation, but other people have done it and we will survive for one or two winters.

It’s actually fairly exciting and very freeing to get rid of things that have been sitting around. The hardest thing to get rid of is some of my yarn. Mainly it’s just been the old red heart acrylics that have been donated to me from peoples basements, but even that has been hard for me to part with. Ha!

I took this photo at the lake Saturday. It’s another mystery flower to me. It is gorgeous.

I’m also trying to sell this and will end up giving it away if it doesn’t sell. I have absolutely no place to put it. This is probably the thing that tugs at my heart more than anything else. I love Hoosier  cabinets and it took me years to find one.

Ah well. Life is full of changes and we are beginning a new adventure. We have lived in this house the longest of any place in my life. Almost 20 years. It’s amazing what you can collect in 20 years!.

I hope you are all well and I will try to keep up on blog’s, but this week will be incredibly crazy.

Wishing you all a wonderful day.

Blessings, Betsy

  2. I think you are making a wise choice. It is imperative you sell in a sellers market. Our friends in Illinois sold on the first day for more than asking price. ;) WIshing you the same.
So we get some more lake time! awesome!!!! NEbraska .....Will's parents are from there. AL and Will are going to see them on the 4th. It is only 9 hours for them. ONly 8 for us. We were invited but our daughter said it would be too crazy. Ouch. So we were kindly uninivted with the guise that one of the adult mom's is too nervous to have us come for fear of Covid. All for the best, I'm sure.

  4. Congratulations on your decision - that's exciting!!! Is there someone who could store your Hoosier cabinet for you until you move to Nebraska? Assuming you would have space for it when you move there. It would be a shame to part with it.

  5. Oh, this is huge news. That's so exciting. That lake picture with the flowers is so beautiful. I could probably live there year round. Wonder if the flower is foxglove?? It sure is pretty. You shoudn't have any trouble selling the cabinet. Wow, it looks new. Wishing you the best!!

  7. You are very smart as it is a sellers market right and especially where you live! What a wonderful adventure! I had to get rid of my hoosier when I moved here but maybe I'll get another one someday. Nebraska in a few years? Awesome! I'm so happy for you! I wish I could sell this place and maybe I'll be able to as I think others will be retiring early because of COVID. Like you quoted....in God's time not ours! Congratulations!

  8. You will be so glad to do this and not look back! The purging is very freeing. Hug the cabinet and then let it go! We did this kind of adventure 13 years ago and it was such a good one but a lot of work between selling and downsizing but you can do this. The Lord be with you.

  10. I am so happy for you. If the winter gets to be too much, you can always go for a short term/furnished rental to get you through the coldest part. I can't wait to hear all about your adventure.

    Hugs!!!

  11. How exciting to be having this adventure! I wish you the best and that you find your happy place in Nebraska after the Winter. And I think that you should keep that Hoosier. Perhaps one of your children could store it for you?

  12. Oh I'd love the Hoosier cabinet. Too far away though. Woe...moving! I need to slim on what we have. So much stuff. Enjoy your time at the lake. And hope your house sells soon. I'll just have to fly to NE to see you. God bless!! ×------×

  13. Exciting news!! I hope all goes as smoothly s possible. I wish I lived closer because I'd buy that Hoosier cupboard in a minute. Don't know where I'd put it though. I remember my mom's; hers was not as nice as yours.

  14. The plant looks like 'Foxglove'...
As for the adventure that lays ahead of you,, Have fun... We lived in a 5-th wheel for 3 months in the dead of Winter over here (West Plains).. we survived and we shared our space with a kitty and dog... As for your Hoosier,, I love it! How can you part with it? :>(
My budget is rather tight around here with putting in the water Well... other wise I would be raising my hand saying Me, Me,, I want it! Are you sure you have to part with it?
Blessing and joys for your new adventure <><

  15. Ask one of your church friends if they can store the Hoosier cabinet for you: I bet someone has room for it. You’ll do fine in the trailer through the winter if it’s skirted well. Heat tape on the water lines is good but make sure it is installed correctly - you don’t want to lose everything in a fire.

  16. Your mystery flower is Delphinium. I have it in light mauve, and bright blue (though Burton broke all my blue ones this year.)
The cabinet is gorgeous. I hope you find a loving home for it.
Best of luck with the adventure!

  17. Yes Delphinium! That cabinet is beautiful. Could you put some stuff in storage? I would have a hard time parting with it. What an adventure you are on. We spent one winter in an RV in Florida and then March in Minnesota...it was so cold. I wish you the best I know houses are really moving because the interest rates are down:) Saying prayers for a good outcome! :)

  18. I hope your house sells at the price you are asking. I know how hard it is to part with stuff too when moving. We donated and gave away so many things and it was so hard.
Enjoy your adventure and I'm sure it will be fun. Take care my friend!

  19. Oh and I join the list of ladies who if luved closer would buy your Hoosier cabinet but alas I don't have space for it.

  21. Oh, wow! That is a big adventure! I wish we had done that when we first retired. This place is a nightmare to keep up and we are getting too old but now we have all those darn outdoor kitties to care for and no idea how to pack them up and move them. I envy you.

  22. Ahhhh---I'm so happy for you two!!!! I'm sure, with God's help, you are doing the correct thing and that God will help and protect you during these big changes...

Getting rid of things would be the hardest part for me I'm sure. But---those are just 'things'.... You/we have each other!!!!

Why is the market so good right now? With so much unemployment around here due to the Covid virus, I'm not sure if we could sell our house now --even if we wanted to...

Again, I'm happy for you --and will keep both of you in our prayers.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  23. Dear friend, I believe this is the wisest thing you could ever do! I am SO proud of you for letting so much go - it is just stuff. Even the cabinet. Yes, it is absolutely gorgeous, but I have found that taking pictures of the things I let go of is very comforting. You can look at a picture of that cabinet and you can remember the many years it has served you, and you can be so grateful that your dear husband's back will not have to bear the brunt of lifting it ever again. Some things are just more important than things - yes, I meant to say it that way. LOL! Now is the time to do this, and if you don't do it now, the house may not even sell later. Things are tightening, and I think every Christian in the world can feel that. We will all soon be going to our eternal home, and we will not need any of this world's goods over there. Jesus is preparing a mansion far greater than any home any of us will ever live in during this life, and we won't have to provide one thing for that mansion. None of this will matter at the end of life, and we won't want this stuff in Heaven. Oh, it is FREEING to let it all go and feel the peace of knowing you love Jesus and His perfect will more than you love the stuff. God bless you on this journey! I am praying for you and so look forward to all of the wonders God has ahead for you!! Living at the lake is where He has been drawing your heart for the past few years, and He has been preparing you for this!! SO excited for you and Dennis!!! Don't look back. :)

  24. Good luck with all the packing and getting ready for the sale of your home. It will be so exciting to move closer to your family.

  25. Yay for you and Dennis! You will have so much fun and live quite an adventure! Jerry and I had plans to do the same thing when we got married (but then his medical stuff started happening with all the job losses and other things that went along with it over the years etc etc). That cabinet is so interesting! I'm sure someone will come along and be happy to take it off your hands. God is leading you on a different path full of new blessings! Praying for a smooth transition!

  26. I'm excited for you, Betsy. I couldn't give up my antiques and collectibles so we'll be staying in this house as long as we can. Buy I admire your adventurous spirit and can-do attitude and you will definitely feel freer and more minimalist when all is said and done. Maybe some day when you find where you want to land again you can get another kitchen queen. I rescued mine out of my grandparents abandoned farmhouse so it will stay with me to the end. Wishing the best for you both, tell Denise we both say hello. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  27. Hi Betsy, You will enjoy living in your trailer. We lived in a fifth wheel traveling and about six months in a campground while our house was being built here in Indiana. We had lived 30 years at least in the home we sold in Michigan before doing this Enjoy! Nancy

  28. Oh my! Changes indeed Betsy! I do feel that this will be a real blessing for you both, along with lots of adventure! I will be praying for you in this exciting time you are in! You will enjoy living at the lake so very much! It is hard to downsize, but once you start, it gets easier to do. Many blessings to you!
