Snow!?

Oh my friends! I dread to think of what this winter is going to bring if we have had snow twice already this year. Look what I woke up to this morning.  3.3 inches of the white stuff! Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.

Power is out all over the city and schools are canceled. No, it wasn’t a huge amount, only a little over 3 inches, but all of the trees still have their leaves on them and so live power lines are down all over the city.

Our neighbors tree fell on our fence and into our yard. Dennis will have a mess to clean up when he gets off of work tonight.  You can see where the trunk just snapped off.

This is a photo that I just took of the TV news.  It is beautiful but the roads are a mess.  The next two are live shots at 8:15 this morning.  See how the traffic is backed up on the bridge? Apparently the roads are just a sheet of ice right now.

Wow!  So pretty!  This is downtown Spokane.

This is another photo that I just snapped off of the TV news. Trees, trees, trees down everywhere.  It looks like a hurricane went through and brought snow with it!

Fall is what we are supposed to be experiencing right now. Summer just ended a couple of weeks ago! So I’m going to show you a few of my fall decorations like I had originally planned to post today before our surprise snowstorm. :-)

We didn’t have nearly as much snow as some people though. Montana is still in a winter storm warning. Our sweet little granddaughter Kyleigh texted me last night that she was playing her last soccer game of the season for school in the middle of a blizzard.

Lots of shadows today because of the clouds and the snow but here is my Hoosier cabinet.

Here is a better photo of the top of the cabinet.

Goodness it’s dark isn’t it?

The kitchen island. I love these little leaves that I crocheted several years ago.

And the little table by the front door.

Well, I need to get ready and go tackle the roads and see if I can make it to Neal and Jenny’s house. She’s doing very well.  Yesterday I drove her to physical therapy and he was very pleased with her progress. However, she still can’t be left alone for at least another week because of the fall risk. We had dinner with them again last night. I think we’re going to have Bible study at their house Thursday night. We are planning on taking dinner to them again that night and then it will be pizza night on Friday with them. I think they will be very tired of our company by the time she’s up and about again!

Several of you have asked how my back held up during the trip. I didn’t want to be a whiny baby about it, so I haven’t talked about it. As long as I didn’t do anything and just sat around, I was fine. As soon as I tried to do any standing or much walking, the spasms started. However, I was still able to spend time with our family and that’s what was important. Riding in the car is absolutely no problem at all at this point. I can recline the seat back while Dennis drives and everything seems to be fine.  I appreciate each and everyone of you who were praying for me. I just try not to talk about it a whole lot anymore because I don’t want to sound like a broken record.  I do have another injection scheduled for the end of October and I’m praying that this one works.

Wishing you all a wonderful day and I hope some of you are enjoying some fall, not winter, weather!

“But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.”  Psalms 59:16

Blessings,
Betsy

  2. Oh sweet friend, you should never not write about how you feel. How else are we to know to pray for you if you don't let us know? ((hugs)). Ok, that is just way too much snow. I refuse to have any part of winter this year. Sorry, Winter, turn around and head somewhere else! I hate snow. It looks great from a distance but it's awful to have to walk/drive in. Yuck. Blessings to you always dear friend.

  3. The storm is predicted to hit here tonight through Friday: I'm sure it will make a mess of the roads. Love all your little touches of Fall and the crocheted leaves.

  4. The stars on your Hoosier cabinet are beautiful. The previous owner's of our house had hooks over each window. In the living room I have hung leaded glass Bethlehem stars. We don't live far from Bethlehem, PA where I bought them. In the bathroom I have a Moravian star (also leaded glass).

Hope the snow melts quickly and you can get out and about a bit easier.

  5. I agree that it is way too early for snow. I love your fall decorations... at least it looks like fall inside your house!

  6. Oh my! I heard it had snowed over there! It has been cold on this side of the mountains but not that cold yet. I hope the snow will go away and you will get a chance to enjoy some Autumn color.

  7. I love all your fall decorations and the snow even looks beautiful! Although we're supposed to get some this weekend too. Hopefully it won't be too much. I would like it all to melt and stay gone for awhile yet! We'll see....I've heard scary things about this coming winter! Glad I discovered your blog!

    1. Diane, I am wondering whether you have a blog. I grew up in WI and would love to know where you are located. Long ago I spent many summers working at a GS camp near Eagle River; those were great days!

    2. Hi Judy, Diane does not have a blog...she lives in Arbor Vitae WI :)

  8. Oh dear.. sorry you're getting snow so early.. what a crazy thing! We're having sunshine and no wind and nice cool nights and warm afternoons here. I'm glad your back pain stayed under control on your trip and that riding in the car is pain-free for you! How about I send some sunshine and warmth your way? I'll get right on that... lol! I'm off to volunteer at the falls tomorrow with my friend Shirley. I'll have my shell crochet blanket on my lap, I only have 4 more colors, 2 rows each and then I'll start on the border. THEN.. I have to make another one for my other granddaughter!! What was I thinking? LOL!! I'm getting excited about our trip to Yosemite in a few weeks. Stay warm, my friend. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  10. Snow again, wow! My eye doctor mentioned that this morning because a bunch of docs from your side of the mts. had trouble making a meeting here yesterday. It's been colder than usual here which makes me wonder what winter will bring. It was very foggy earlier but now the sun is out; it's still chilly though. Glad you had a good visit with family and that at least car travel is painless. Hope you continue to feel better. Lots of hugs from this side of our state and hope that snow melts quickly and stays away so we can have a REAL fall!

  11. Oh my! You really got hit with snow and trees and power outages! The pictures of your downtown are beautiful...a waterfall...how gorgeous is that. Your Fall decorations are lovely!

  12. Wow. What weather you are having. It is suppose to get low tomorrow night, perhaps freezing but no snow yet. I am sorry you are still having back pain. I am going to see about a shot in my shoulder tomorrow for the arm I broke awhile back. I like to get most of my Christmas shopping done before the snow and bitter cold. I had better get to it! 13. My son in Denver was sent home early from work yesterday because of the snowstorm they were having. What a mess where you are. Those poor trees just weren't ready for heavy snow since they were too busy doing the autumnal work of releasing their leaves. Still hot and humid here.

  15. Betsy, you and your husband are angels. You have no idea how much your offer to help us touched our hearts. Steve has been feeling pretty poorly the last couple of days, but Monday afternoon and Tuesday we got all of our winterizing done :) It feels so good to have that behind us, especially since he started feeling bad after. They gave him a flu shot on Monday so that could be part of why he is feeling the way he does, that and the usual after chemo affects. I decided to wait two weeks and then get my flu shot. It has been so many years since I've had one . . . but I can't take any risks with Steve how he is.
Your poor husband . . . that's a major job to have to tackle after working all day. The two of you are so special . . . no grumbling and always there for others. God bless you both.
    Connie :)
Perfect verse to end your post . . . Rising from bed with a song of praise in your heart is the perfect way to start each day :)

  16. Your snow is pretty! Way prettier than what we will get, it is spitting snow now but it melts as it hits the ground.
How wonderful that you are helping out your friends I am sure it is greatly appreciated!
Sorry to hear about your back...you do not sound like a broken record....although I can identify with that feeling:)
Hope you melt!! AND that we get back to reasonable Fall weather:)

  17. I can't imagine getting a surprise snow storm. That's a lot of snow for October. Your fall decorations are so pretty. I love the Hoosier cabinet. Wish I had room for one. I have a weakness for old cabinets. Hope your next injection helps your back. I am on my third injection. The second one lasted for almost three years. I'm hoping this last one will too.

  18. Aw, bless your dear heart, I am SO sorry to know that you have still been suffering so much. I was surely wondering how you were making the trip and if you were having any problems. I am so thankful you were still able to be with your family and enjoy that time with them in spite of the pain. I can't believe you are having snow already! That is just crazy. It was so nice to visit with you. May the Lord bless you, sweet friend.

  19. Oh brrrr!! I saw the Spokane pictures u put on Facebook on Wed and showed them to my grandkids. No ice in the river when we were there! Lots of downed trees sounds weird and unexpected! Its cold here in a.m. and evening. Such a nice day today though. 60s next week, 40s night. No we didn't get out house painted the other week. Too cold and wet! Have a good and warm weekend indoors. Hugs and blessings my friend!

  20. Your decorations are so beautiful but that snow! Wow, what a thing to come home to. I am so glad you back held up okay, not as good as you wanted I know. I think the Botox shots accumulate and the pain gets better over time. At least that has how it has worked with my headaches. Wishing you a beautiful week Betsy.

  21. Dear Betsy.
As you say, lovely photos, but oh so cold and too early.
Praying for all, for Jenny, (Connie and her hubby in comments) and your back.
BTW stating facts eg my is not good, that is not whinging.
Going on and on and on and in about it, giving every single minute detail in triplicate... that's whinging.
    You never whinge.
Don't be ashamed to state a simple fact. Praying for you grace till next Botux injection, and Gods mercy thats it's effective.
Thanks for being a blessing, and may God bless you too.

  22. Yikes! I hadn't heard about your early storm and ack! I know about those. We had quite a few inches of snow one early October and people still talk about that one. Buffalo lost thousands of trees, around 20 lives and electricity was out for days. Gah. I hope your power wasn't out for too long! Oh, and I'd never seen your hoosier cabinet before--it's gorgeous. Thanks for sharing your life with us and I hope you'll blog here again soon. Thanks, too, for your latest comment at my blog! Hang in there, my friend. Blessings, Debra

  23. I heard the reports about your snow and thanks to this post I can say I have seen some of the results of it! My hanging baskets of flowers are still blooming, and I am curious to know how much longer they will last. It is fun to put out the Fall decorations, isn't it. Thanks for the update on your back...may the Lord encourage you and bring more rapid healing. xxxx
