Nebraska!

I made it.  Here at my dear Mom-in-law's house in Nebraska.  We are currently in the middle of a severe thunderstorm warning with tornado warnings to the west of us.  Welcome home Betsy, the weather seems to be saying.  Remember why you were so glad to move to the northwest?  Oh, did I mention it was 103F this afternoon?  Lovely.  Not. As the kids would say. :-).

Karen's surgery that was supposed to be today, has been postponed until next Monday.  Apparently there was a snafu with the insurance.  Excuse me?? The doctors are concerned about her waiting that long.  It's a very serious surgery and I'm wanting it to be over and done with for her.  It's so obvious that she's desperately in need of it.  Any prayers for her would be greatly appreciated.

This is Mom's house.  She and Dad bought this house about 38 years ago, just before Hubby and I were married.  My bedroom is the middle window upstairs on the left.
Would you like to see some of the things I've made for her over the years?  This is just a fraction of them but a good sampling.

A crocheted runner for her piano.
One of the first doilies I ever made. I wish I still had this pattern but I think I lost it in the move to Washington. I like the detailing in the center.
Mom never starches or irons these, so some are a bit out of shape from washing and no ironing or blocking.
I've made this pattern several times.  I like it a lot.
My first attempt at a rectangle about 30 years ago!
Pineapples.  The coaster is one of a set of eight I made her last summer.  That picture is of Karen's kids. They range in age from 30 to 10.  Those kids need their Mom and she needs this surgery.  Seeing her would have really convinced me if I had needed convincing.
Anybody remember this?  It was popular about 25 years ago.  You wove string into the grid to make the pattern.
Embroidery on printed fabric done about 30 years ago or so.
One of my first embroidery projects.
Mothers Day a long, long time ago.
I made myself an identical picture of the cottage & geese.  Love these quilts.  Both of us have these hanging in our family rooms.
When all of us kids were done having babies I made this for Mom & Dad for their Anniversay one year.  I think it was around 1990.  Then Hubby's brother and his wife had another baby the next year. He was a big surprise!  So the family tree I made still wasn't accurate.  Oh well.  Cory was worth it.
Finishing up with my favorite of all the pieces I've made for her.  I adore these angels and she's promised them to me in her will when she's gone.
She has more stitchery in her closets and drawers and sitting out including lots of afghans.  There is literally not a room in the house that doesn't have something I made her.  I love that.  She truly likes my humble gifts and enjoys using them and looking at them.

And now I'm off to bed. This 2 hour time change doesn't like me this trip.  I'm tired.  That could have something to do with the airline calling me three times Monday night with changes in my flights yesterday. Three times they changed my flights in the middle of the night!  The flying itself was thankfully uneventful though and I had very nice seat mates.

I hope you're all doing well and I'll check in soon to let you know how the surgery goes Monday.  Meanwhile, I've talked to one of my sisters and one brother and we're trying to reach my other brother so we can all meet for dinner this weekend.  I am enjoying being with family again but Hubby is already lonely and he says Chloe misses me. :-)

Blessings,
Betsy

  1. Oh Betsy, I am so sorry to hear that they have postponed this much needed surgery!! Of course Karen will be in my prayers, for both a successful surgery, and her speedy recovery. You are so kind to be there to help. What a wonderful sister in law you are! I do have a question? Is the house you showed, the home you grew up in? But the house with all of the gifts you made, is this your Mother in laws home? Such lovely hand made gifts...treasures.
    Be well friend.
    xo Kris
PS I so appreciate your prayers for my Mom as well!!!!

    1. I am confusing aren't I? This is my mother-in-laws house, gifts and all. My own Mom & Dad have been gone for years. Since Hubby & I have been together since I was 15 years old, I've always called her Mom. She's my mother-in-law, but in my heart she's my Mom.
      Blessings,
      Betsy

  2. Hello my dear friend. I'm glad you had a safe trip down there -- it's scary to hear you might have a tornado around. Our house was destroyed while we were in it when I was 6 weeks old by a tornado - in OK. So, be careful! I'm sorry to hear her surgery was delayed.. that's awful! I hope you get to come home soon.
    ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

    1. Hi Teresa, that particular storm has passed us by although more are predicted. Gosh! Six weeks old. That's so little to be in such a bad storm. I'm terrified of tornadoes having lived through a couple myself. It's one reason I love the northwest so much. No tornadoes to speak if.
      Blessings,
      Betsy

  3. Hullo dear Betsy
I am praying for your sister, for God's enduring mercy to be manifest in every, yes! every aspect of her treatment..
Remember God holds her in the hollow of His hand .. we must rest in that..

.. it is exactly the same over here for my 85 y.o dad he is not well at all, has leaky aortic valve which needs replacing but has chest infection and needs that heart surgery too but it is being held up by the system like your sisters is.. this has to be done firs,...t have to arrange this and that.. and then we might be able to discus that.. and so it goes.. meanwhile I just pray on ever so very much for him.. (Mike) he does not know the Lord either, so that part is very sad.
.. prayer appreciated but dont put his name in a comment on my blog please only telling you that.. thanks...
oh and re the doily you like.. you could borrow it and count a pattern off it you know have done that.. it is filet crotchet and looking at it is just counting process.. from centre out.. to copy is just as easy as pattern when it is filet.
lovely work all of it though .. eye candy!
love and much prayer Shaz in oz.x

    1. Thank you Shaz, I will definitely be in prayer for your Dad. The "process" is definitely frustrating. That idea of counting off the pattern is a good one. I may give it a try.
      Blessings,
      Betsy

  12. Glad you made it Nebraska. I remember being there in June, 9 years ago. Hot and good thing no tornadoes. I slept in the basement, of my friend's house that I was visiting in Omaha. Nice place then a childhood friend that lives in Iowa, ran me around in Iowa the day before I left for home. Nice! I will be praying for your sis. Insurance can be stinkers for sure. God give her peace and rest and hope all goes well with your visit. Thanks for sharing all the photos of items you've made. I have quite a few doilies from years past, mostly my mom's. I just knit and do an occasional cross stitch.
