It’s Done!

We're home!  Here's Dennis, IV in and ready to go!

And here he is, right after the surgery. He ended up with a general anesthesia so I was really surprised to have him so alert when he woke up.  See his two new pins in his thumb? The surgery went much, much better than the surgeon expected. Despite several breaks and some small bones that turned to "sand," he didn't have to use plates and screws which is great. The pins will be removed in 6 weeks.  Next Tuesday he will get a custom splint made for him, after the surgery swelling goes down. His forehead is looking much better and the surgeon will take out the stitches on Tuesday.

Ouch!

The dress I ordered two weeks ago for Alex's wedding this fall, showed up yesterday. I don't look very happy do I? I have no idea why unless it was that I wish I was about 70 lbs lighter. Since they had to cancel the wedding several times during Covid and ended up with a Registrar wedding, they want to go ahead and have a big party and proper wedding.  What do you think? Is the dress appropriate for Mother of the Groom?

Today was also Lizzie and Zoey's 2nd birthday. Piper decorated the house and sang happy birthday to them and also gave them extra treats in a "people" bowl!  Wasn't that sweet? Those two little puppies are VERY well loved. It was a great day when we found these two sisters to adopt. They really love each other and we all love them both. They're very happy at each others house, but like to go to their own home too. Our Zoey is on the left, Lizzie on the right.

Thank you for all of your thoughts, prayers and love. I appreciate them more than you know. I'm going to do my best to catch up on everyone's blogs tonight. Dennis is sound asleep in his recliner with Zoey asleep on his lap. After dinner, I'm planning to join him and work on my laptop.

Blessings and love,
Betsy

  4. I missed yesterday's post so when I saw Dennis all ready for surgery I was horrified. Now I've read what happened and although I know your planned holiday was ruined it could have had a worse ending. And both of you are determined to have your holiday...just a bit differently. Good attitudes. BTW...you look great and so does your dress!!! Granny Marigold (How I wish Blogger would let me have my name back instead of anonymous!).

  6. How scary! very sorry to hear about Dennis' accident on the other hand extremely glad Betsy all went well with his surgery and he is on the mend. IMO your dress suits you! It is stylish and not at all "overdone". You don´t look happy about it. Is it the cleavage perhaps? I think that adds to the elegance of the dress. Take care Amanda xx

  7. Good to see Dennis smiling! He is a trooper! I like the color of your dress and the length but the neckline would make me uncomfortable...I would return it or cover it with a beautiful shawl. Hope Dennis recovers quickly so you can resume your vacation!

  8. Oh, yikes! I am so happy to hear everything went well but goodness, what a scare that must have been.
The dress is lovely-so soft and flowing. With hair and makeup you will be stunning for the big day. Perfect for dancing the night away!

  11. I'm glad Dennis made it through surgery and his hand isn't as broken as expected. Just seeing him in hospital reminds me of me being in the emergency room last month. The dress is very nice on you. Enjoy going to England 🇬🇧 again. Happy 2nd birthday to the dogs. Hugs and prayers.

  12. First - that dress! How beautiful and so flattering, too! You will look like royalty! I really do like it that much!
Second - I wrote a comment yesterday that disappeared before I hit publish and I was so frustrated, I wait until today. But please know I have been thinking about both of you.
What a horrible thing to happen! You both must have been so scared! And what a trooper you were. I am pretty impressed you were able to do all the hooking and dumping and unhooking and everything else while Dennis directed. And so, so happy you made it home safely. And so happy that the operation went well and he looks so much better already. What an experience. I know you are sad not to be driving cross country this summer, but I think the plane ride is the way to go until Dennis is all healed. Gosh, the things that happen.
There was no way to reassemble my arm without metal plates and screws and you are right about all that metal in a cold climate. Forecasting the weather with my arm is no joke. I swear I will wake up and it feels like a cleaver in my arm when snow is in the forecast. I with I had that "chop stick" option!
Prayers for both of you while you recover from the incident.

  17. You look beautiful in that dress! So glad that Dennis had his surgery and didn't have to have pins or screws put in his hand. I could kick myself for not reading your post sooner! Shame on me as you are so good about reading mine. This will teach me that I need to keep track of you 2! So happy things turned out okay. Blessings to both of you and happy birthday to the 2 "pups"!

  18. So sorry to hear about Dennis' fall and subsequent surgery. It was good that you were able to help get the rig ready for going home. We too have an RV (class A motor home) and I worry about getting it home if something happens to my husband. At 79 it could be a problem as iI don't drove it so we have insurance. Your dress looks perfect and looks very nice on you. Hope the rest of your summer goes well.
