Moving in…

Well friends, we’ve been staying in the apartment since Saturday night. Not everything is unpacked and my beautiful dining room table not only broke in the moving process, but it’s too big for the apartment. That seems to have been the only casualty in the move though, which is pretty good. Dennis will fix it and we’ll put it on Facebook marketplace to sell it and buy a smaller one. Otherwise we are getting settled in and I think we’re going to love it here, whether it be temporary or long-term term. We have been invited to a potluck here Monday night. Since this is our first one we get to go as guests. There is so much going on here every day.

In the second bedroom, yarn was unpacked and put away first of all. Of course. Actually it was the easiest thing to work on unpacking and organizing while Dennis was bringing up other loads. It was easier to just unpack things as we brought them in because we only had 12 boxes to move with and just kept reusing them.

It all fit!

This is the main bathroom. Both bathrooms are very big because they’re ADA accessible.

This is looking down the hallway. We haven’t hung very many photos yet. Just the clock so it wouldn’t be damaged. Dennis bought me that clock in the Amana colonies in Iowa for our 15th anniversary almost 30 years ago.

The kitchen is a bit of a mess. I don’t have as many cabinets and we had to cram our freezer in there too. Once the food is gone from the freezer, we’ll probably put it in our storage unit to create more room.

Again, please don’t look at the mess. This was the first day of moving in.

The dining room with the damaged table. It’s not bad though and Dennis think he will be able to fix it fairly easily.

Looking toward the living room. Piper made us a welcome home banner that’s hanging next to the balcony doors.

We also have a stackable, full-size washer and dryer in the hall. I love that washer and dryer. It works great!

Tuesday they did a musical at Piper’s school. It had four songs in it and both sets of grandparents were there, along with mom and dad. We all had dinner at Mandy and Brad‘s before we went. Piper is in the back row in the red and black plaid shirt. it was actually very good. She even had a solo.💜 There are so many students in the school they do each grade separately.

Today was her Halloween Party & Parade at school, so I went up and watched it and walked home with her. It’s so nice to be close enough to do these things with her. She is dressed as Marie Antoinette. 💜

On Wednesday three long, long time girlfriends from church and I went out to lunch and then to the Durham Museum to see the dress exhibit from Downton Abbey. They were original dresses that were worn during the making of the show and movie. It was a lot of fun and we had a great time talking and catching up about things over the years. The first one is my favorite. Would you believe it was made from a tablecloth?

Sorry about so many photos but it’s been awhile and I just love these dresses and wanted to share. I wish we had the same styles now. 💜 I love the loose and flowing look. This makes me want to go back and rewatch all of the shows.

Hopefully I will be back on a regular blogging schedule next week. Not much knitting has been getting done. I’m still making the same toddler sweater that I was two weeks ago, although I now have the back and both right and left fronts done. I have just started one sleeve. It has never taken me this long, even to knit an adult size sweater.

The mittens are in the car to take to the school to donate. I’ll try to get that done next week sometime. With everything happening this year, I didn’t get quite as many done. There are 73 pair of mittens and nine hats.

Take care everyone!!!

Blessings,
Betsy

  1. Your new place looks very nice. So glad that you are in a safe place and closer to family. I love attending our grands school events. We are going to a Grandparents' breakfast at our granddaughter's school next month and our oldest boys (who are the only ones who live here) start their winter sports next week... basketball, hockey and bowling. That should keep us busy for the winter! Hope you get settled in soon so you can get back to your crafting!! Enjoy your weekend, don't work too much!

  2. Your new place looks very cozy and comfortable. I love that you have a balcony for sitting out in nice weather. Enjoy.

Piper made a very good Marie Antoinette. Will she wear that for Halloween too?

  3. Oh my! Those dresses from Downton Abbey are gorgeous! I just watched the most recent movie and enjoyed it so much, I want to go back and watch the earlier series, etc. again. I think you are very well organized already in your new apartment. Everything looks nice and neat if you ask me! That is a lot of work, and then you know you will be doing it again soon...I don't envy you! We moved 3 years ago and I still feel like we are just settling in. LOL. I hope we don't do it again. But you never know. Thank you for the comments you have left on my posts recently. I enjoyed hearing from you. I haven't been able to reply to everyone yet as we've been busy, but always read them and am so thankful for them. Love that you were able to attend your granddaughter's program. Looks so good!! What fun! I enjoyed this post.

  5. Dear Betsy,
I’m so glad you’ve moved and you won’t be travelling over winter time to help with mum, that maybe a bridge too far was my concern when you weren’t moving till Spring.

I gasped out loud when read of your dining room table but glad some one will use it in the end. As a believer I must confess I don’t understand the fascination with Halloween over there, as it’s so unscriptural… if anyone has read the bible from cover to cover they’ll see God abhors it .., thankfully not much happens here, except the trick or treating about once every three ir four years. For those who only like New Testament this is just one verse by Paul to the Galatians - I know you agree too.. from what I’ve read elsewhere.
    Galatians 5:20-21
Idolatry, **witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
[21] Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
I know it’s meant to be fun and I’m not against that. We live in sad times though where things God does nit like are treated lightly and tolerable because it’s “fun”. I do like what Piper is wearing though, I’ve read a biography on her too and agree with Piper she was hard done by the poor young lassie.
It’s in middle of night here, I went to bed unusually early, slept a good few hours, so now up to do prayer. I’ll pray more clearly for you after this post.

I trust mum is keeping well, your puppies will like being nearer to one another too, easier all around. Loved the Downtown Abbey new movie saw it with my sister and her hubby. I’ve not been well hence no blogging. One day it will happen again.
Thanks for Sharing, God bless and keep you safe, and all those you love, hugs Shaz in Oz.x

  6. What a lovely place! I think I would be happy there too. I was wondering how you were going to move that stash of yours but I see you got it done.
Those dresses are amazing. The work that went into them boggles the mind.

  7. First the dresses-just exquisite! What treasures.
I love your apartment! It like puzzle pieces that fell into place. Already fellowship with the potluck and it's become a home with your yarn wall. Now time to settle in before the holidays. The table a minor casualty, it can be fixed and replaced, but you are closer to family and we are all grateful for your safety. The school photos are precious.

  9. Considering how short a time you've been in your new place I think you're doing great. It won't take long until you have a place for everything ( well, maybe not the freezer).
Those dresses are gorgeous. Also, I like Piper's outfit. Sorry about the dining room table but like you say, it will get fixed then sold and you will find a smaller one that hopefully you'll love. Have a blessed Sunday.

  13. Your new place looks wonderful! I had to laugh at your concern about the kitchen "mess." We've been in this house 3 years and we still have a cardboard box of unpacked miscellaneous kitchen gadgets shoved under the kitchen desk. Your kitchen looks great!

  14. Betsy, I love your new appartment! It looks wonderful already. Don't know how you and Dennis have done it all, and in such a short amount of time. Your yarn shelves look perfect!! That cute Piper always stands out. She is such a beauty and so sweet. I love her smile, and she is always wearing one. I too wish those long loose styles would come back. I love when women look like women.

  16. Nice apartment you have and glad you got all your yarn put away. Is there another place in apartment to put up freezer in since it's upright? I would miss having mine. We got a 9 cubic foot one last year as older one wasn' t the best any more. I am glad you are close enough to see Piper at school and her parents as well. I am glad she likes to sing as well. The dresses you shared look beautiful. Take care and text or email me your new address. Blessings and prayers, Becky
