A New Week!

Good morning to all of you. I hope you had a lovely Easter weekend celebrating the resurrection of the Lord.
I thought I would share a few photos I took last week of the safari park about 5 minutes from our campground. Zoey didn’t know what to make of these animals and actually wanted to take on the bison about 3 feet from our truck!
Cute sunbathing turtles.
A herd grazing near the visitor center.

Beautiful and majestic animals.

Love the fuzzy antlers.๐Ÿ’œ

Lots of bison close by too.

This big guy was up close and personal and Zoey was sure she could show him who was boss.๐Ÿ˜‚ We are REALLY working on the small dog barking but don’t seem to be making much progress.
Here was our camp set up. We didn’t spend a lot of time outside because it was so cold and windy, but enjoyed puttering about inside. We did have a few water issues but Dennis fixed them all. We also had a problem with the furnace not shutting off, but with the help of a Facebook group of owners of the same trailer, that was quickly resolved too. The trip did exactly what we wanted and I think we were able to get the new trailer “kinks” worked out. It looks big but I think it’s the perspective of the picture. It’s only a 26 foot trailer. We had the entire campground to ourselves the first night and only a few others the second night. As you can see, still no leaves here. We’ve made reservations for three nights in the same spot next month and five days in the Black Hills with Piper in June.

Our church is a fairly small one and one of the ladies made this “Tomb” from cardboard boxes and paper bags a few years ago. I thought it turned out well, especially with the dim lighting during the Friday night service. Dennis and Jeff, the pastor, were joking around after breakfast yesterday. Dennis told him to go check out the tomb and snapped this photo just as Jeff said no one was in there. He has risen!
We had Sunrise service, breakfast at church and then the usual morning service. It was WONDERFUL!

I’ve knitted a few washcloths as a break from the shawl.  I really like this color I’m using now. It’s called periwinkle.

Progress is being made on the prayer shawl for the hospital. I’ve just begun the border and I’m making up the pattern as I go. I added a row of eyelets near the bottom for a bit of interest. Of course it will still need blocked.

I’m finding I’m not knitting nearly as much with a retired husband. ๐Ÿ˜ We seem to be on the go a LOT. He’s waiting for me to finish this so we can go buy a new toilet seat for the camper and wash the truck. I love being with him so it’s NOT an issue at all, I just won’t be making as quick of a progress on projects. And that’s just fine. Time with each other is much more important.

Tomorrow we’re helping at a funeral luncheon at church. It’s nice to have the time to help others out and it’s like old times in the kitchen of the church that we met in. We literally met in Sunday school at this church.๐Ÿ’•

Take care and I hope the weather begins to even out for all of us.

Blessings and love,
Betsy

  1. Good to hear you got all the kinks out of camping! Now you are set for the summer! I keep a project bag ready to go all the time just in case we get stuck someplace so I can work on something! Your shawl is a lovely color!

  2. sounds like a great camping experience. You always need a trial run to get the kinks out. And having your own private campground the first night! Even better! I love the tomb. My little country church used to make a "cave" from chicken wire and stuff the holes with brown paper bags filled with shredded paper. I thought it looked amazing! It would go up on Ash Wednesday. And then the "ladies" organization would purchase all kinds of potted spring flowers to set everywhere around it on Easter Morning. Those fuzzy antlers are so cute, I just want to touch them!

Between retirement and Covid, I feel like my husband and I are together 100% of the time these days. I am very lucky, too. I really enjoy his company.

  3. Glad you were able to work the kinks out and are ready to go camping again! The Black Hills should be a very nice trip. Also glad you and Dennis are enjoying having more time together now that he is retired. Enjoy!!!

  5. That retired husband thing is a killer. The only time I get to myself is when football is on or when he wants a nap.
Your trailer is beautiful. Our neighbor has one like it. They just got back from a long trip to Florida and I see it's gone again. It must be nice. I not only have a retired husband but I have a retired stick in the mud husband. Sigh...He does work around the house though. I will give him that.

  6. What a wonderful post! It took Bill a while to lern that he didn't need me to be with him for every trip...we have a good go and stay sharing now! The work you have done with yarn is very pretty! I love the texture in the dishcloths! What a fun park!

  7. Hello, I am Martha from northwest Tennessee. I really enjoy reading your blogs. I am in a small group at church that knit prayer shawels. I also enjoy knitting dishcloths. I have never used the cotton yarn from Hobby Lobby. I always use Sugar & Cream yarn. What pattern did you use for your dishcloths & what size needles? Have a great week. Thanks, Martha

  8. What is it with small animals and ego. Giroux took on the pit bull next door when we lived in Orlando and it worked. Poor Crash didn't know what hit him. It was 6 lbs. of very angry cat. LOL He also stood up against some big dog at the coffee shop last summer. He let that dog know that the coffee shop patio was HIS territory and you'd best be finding another.

Love the bison photo. There is a guy up in Hellertown (about 20 miles from us) that has a bison in his pasture. It *may* be a beef-alo, but from the road it looked pretty much like a bison.

  9. Blessings to you Betsy....sounds like you had a spectacular Easter. Our grandkids got sick so we ended up spending it alone. Such is life. Glad you got to head out in your new RV...so fun to see. We're planning to head to Wyoming in ours in August. Wish us luck! We're newbees!

  13. Good Morning, Your camping trip looked fabulous despite the weather. We have no leaves on our trees yet either... We can't stay warm up here (31 this morning). Spring is taking its time this year!!!!

I visited my son Mark and wife Robin at their campground recently. How relaxing camping is.

    Have a blessed day.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

Despite the cold, I looks like a lovely camping trip. And a good idea to get the kinks worked out early

  17. Interesting cardboard box tomb! Nice photo!!!He has Risen...Indeed! We had a good service as well. It's been raining alot here and hail last week. May be a bad day weather wise tomorrow. 60 mph winds and maybe a tornado? Oh no! I am glad Zoey didn't fight the bison as it wouldn't be a good thing at all! Hugs and blessings! --Becky

  18. That's the coolest tomb I've ever seen! Looks like something I would make since I'm into cardboard and paper recycling crafts. Hmm, already have an idea ... maybe I'll make a smaller version for our table next year. Good capture by Dennis of the Pastor in the moment!

It's been sooooo windy here for nearly two weeks. I finally got a chance to work on our garden plots and get a couple things going. John ran over from work and dropped me and my gardening stuff off, then raced back to work... and then when he got off work for the day, picked me up to go back home. And now we might have rain days interspersed so often that I will have to dodge raindrops to get anything done! Oh, well, at least I can get out in warmer temps now!
    .
We were close to a buffalo (Big Basin Prairie Preserve, 2.5 hours southwest of here) many years ago when I still had my Jeep (late 1990s). Buffalo are near-sighted. I drove by him as he stood so close to the road we had to stay on... and it startled him. I punched the gas pedal to get past him just in time! He easily could have knocked the Jeep over! Now I can laugh about it, but, man, it had my heart racing! LOL!
    .
Your 26' trailer length is the same length of our apartment from north to south! Ha! (And we don't have that much in width!)

Sending lots of hugs and blessings!

  19. Hi Betsy, I am glad you are getting to go camping and enjoy time with your husband. When we were fifth wheeling full time we only had a 29 foot fifth wheel with one slide. Had a dog and lived in it full time year round. Wish we could still do it but will have to enjoy it through you. You are so talented with your knitting! If you figure out how to stop a dog from barking pass on the tips!......Nancy

  20. Glad to know you did get away and all went well after all. Didn't expect there'd be so much wildlife around there. Can just imagine a little yelping dog making her presence known. :) The washcloths are really pretty.

  21. It sounds as if you have had a really good time over Easter Betsy. Your trailer looks quite big and spacious to me. It must be great camping out having all the essential home comforts on hand too. Oh! dear Zoey does have a big ego but that's the way of it with little dogs, isn't it? Lots of bravado :-) I am glad the bison didn't take much notice! Happy camping! Amanda x
