Toilets, Sinks and Showers, Oh My!

Thank you all for your wonderfully kind words about dear Teresa. I’m sure your messages meant the world to Dayle and the rest of her family. She will be missed by so many people all over the world, but especially by the family. I thank you again for caring.

I wanted to share this table that I got for $30.00 on Facebook Marketplace. If you’re looking for almost anything, you’ll find it there. This is the cutest little table. I wish you could see the beautiful wood grain.

This one shows the true color much better.  It does have a blemish on it in the corner that Dennis intends to try to fix, but I have plans to put a plant or doily over it anyway. It was well worth the $30.00 in my opinion.

We went to dinner last Friday with Mandy, Piper, Mom, my sister Melanie, niece Chaela and her husband Tim. We had a wonderful time. We laughed and laughed and just enjoyed each other’s company as we haven’t been able to for so long. When we came out, this is what we found with my car. A hit and run. Who does that? It was such a disappointing end to an otherwise happy evening. Mandy had to crawl over the console from the other side and she drove to Tim and Chaela’s house where he was able to pop the metal out enough so I can open the door.
Dennis took it in to the body shop yesterday and they ordered the parts and scheduled it in for next Monday. It’s a relief that I will have it back before he leaves for Washington. I don’t want to be without a car in case I need to take Mom somewhere.  It’s unbelievable what repairs cost these days! Oh, and although it wasn’t a very nice welcome home, it could have been worse. I hope this person thinks about it and never does it to anyone else.

I wanted to share this little corner of the yard. I spent 4 1/2 hours weeding this little bed. It was filled with clover. I pulled it all by hand and hopefully will be able to keep it up much easier now.

Look at all of this hosta. I think I need to thin it but I’m not sure how. I’ve never had hosta before. Do I cut it back in the winter or leave it alone?

The same questions with this, which I believe is a bleeding heart. It looks very overgrown to me.

As I said before, Dennis is here! This was the moving crew that helped him load the u-haul in record time.He was loaded and on the road by 9:00 Saturday morning. All he had to pay them were donuts!😍From left to right, Kale, Jeremy, Hayden and Neal.
Ready to go!  He drove to Sheridan Wyoming the first night and on to Omaha the next day. They were LONG days of loading and driving. Then, when he got here, Mandy and Piper helped us unload the trailer.  Dennis and I unloaded the truck Monday morning after we returned the trailer. I couldn’t believe how much they put in these two vehicles. I unpacked all day and we still have boxes waiting.

Then, both of the toilets needed replacing. We have been to Lowe’s several times in the past few days. Our nephew Tim, came and helped Dennis take out the old and install new ones. Not a fun job but these two did great and it was a bonding experience. πŸ˜‚ Tim is standing. That’s Dennis, down on the floor. Look at that lovely teal tub!  Two contractors had appointments but only one showed up and he never gave us an estimate. So frustrating. We want to get rid of the scratched and stained tub and sinks. We’ll see if we actually find someone.  Tim is always the first one to help out and we’re very grateful to him.

Dennis also bought me a new kitchen sink and faucet which he will install soon,
I am very blessed. I have made two pair of mittens but not much else, crafting time has been severely limited. I hope that will return soon. I miss my yarn!πŸ’œ
Blessings and love for you all,
Betsy

  2. The table is beautiful! What a terrible shame after your lovely family meal to have to come out to the damage to your car, I hope it didn't put too much of a dampener on the precious time. I think the bleeding heart just needs pruning right back when it has finished flowering but I'm not sure about the hosta maybe dividing? You have so much do to but you are really getting through it. Have a lovely day. xx

  3. So sorry about your car! Some people....

Cute table you got on FB Marketplace. We replaced our toilets a couple of months ago and our water bill has been cut in half!! Hope your week goes well Betsy.

  4. Gosh, you make me dizzy with all you accomplish! So glad Dennis made his first visit. Even more settling in! And the corner flower bed looks terrific. Your table is adorable.

  5. How wonderful to have all those helping hands!
When I first drove my brand new beloved Mini Cooper to work someone did that to her in the parking lot. THE FIRST DAY. I never knew who did it. The back reflector is still broken from the impact as it cost too much to repair it and I didn't want to turn it into to the insurance company.

  6. Oh, great post! Sorry about the car-glad you can fix it and drive it in the meantime! The work around the house is coming along beautifully!

  7. I'm sorry to hear about our car. People just don't want to take responsibility for anything anymore!! Frustrating! You asked about thinning the hostas. Very easy to do. Just dig up the whole plant and with a big knife or whatever works just cut it into sections. I usually cut mine into quarters. Hostas are VERY hard plants and can take a lot of handling. Good luck!!

  8. What a true blessing to live near family who are so caring and loving. Your place is really coming together now. I bet your yard will be the best on the block in a month or two. I hope you get back to your yarn soon, I know what you mean about missing it. :) Wishing you a day full of many blessings dear friend. :)

  9. So sorry about the hit and run. Thankfully, it will be fixed soon.

As for the hostas, I DO cut mine back after they turn brown in the fall. I haven't had to divide mine yet. But, as minnisoda said, it is pretty easy and the plants are VERY forgiving.

  10. I'm glad Dennis made it safely to your new to you house. That's alot of work to do but it will get done and a bit easier day by day. Sad that someone didn't stop and tell you about your vehicle after they hit it. Crazy not too. Wonder if there's a camera at restaurant that saw it happen. Table looks nice. Hosta plants are pretty.I've thought about getting a couple as mine are gone. Not sure where I'd put them. We're still waiting to get rid of remaining tree wood. Megan asked a friend to ask her parents if they needed wood as they have a fireplace. I need to continue to work on decluttering. And knitting. Hugs and blessings my dear friend. πŸ’œπŸŒˆπŸ™πŸŒ·πŸ°πŸ°

  12. I'm sorry about the damage to your car. It's hard to understand why anyone would just leave without leaving a note with their info on it.
Otherwise it seems as if things are getting done and before you know it you'll be all organized. The new drop-leaf table is so nice.
The Bleeding Heart will die down when it's done blooming. The Hostas are very overgrown and could stand to be lifted and divided.

  13. Wow....so glad Dennis made it safely to your house. What a lot has been accomplished already! Oh, so sorry about your car....so sad when things like that happen. I like your new little table...your plants look great on it! Sounds like lots of work getting done and that bed you cleaned out in the yard looks great! thanks for the update!

  14. In the midst of so much progress I am sorry your car was damaged and the one responsible for the damage did not fess up. I hope you and Dennis enjoy the rest of your time together as you settle in. I enjoy getting used furniture that is useful and a bargain even if I don't know its history. I was given a little square table to put between two chairs in the living room and I have a decorative tray covering a gouge in its top. Your pretty table looks lovely and at home! πŸ’œπŸ€—πŸ™

  16. That is one of the biggest bleeding hearts I've ever seen. You can split it up pretty easy - just dig it up and break it into smaller pieces. Wait until it's done flowering though.

I love the teal tub! One of the tubs in our new place is that beautiful Harvest Gold - lol! But it's actually in decent shape, so we won't be replacing it any time soon. I don't mind - I'll decorate the bathroom to match it.

Sorry about your car - some people!! I hope they did some good damage to their own vehicle!

  17. That was all you needed a despicable person who did not own up to hitting your car! Some people are the limit but "what goes around, comes around" and then they will see! Very glad to read that Dennis is with you now and you have received all your own furniture and possessions. All that will make it feel even more like home. I just love the style of that table and the rounded leaves on it. It looks great there in your living room. I also like the colour of your bathtub! It is all coming together gradually ... keep posting.. I love to see how you are building your new home. Take care Amanda x

  18. Dayle was able to access Teresa's blog to let her readers know about her passing. I know she will be missed.
I'm so sorry about the hit and run damage to your car. That's just wrong! My crafting time has been limited too because I'm doing much reading to fulfill my reading challenges and book reviews obligations.

  19. Oh, how awful about your car! I like the curse that Connie always has at the end of her blog....something about the fleas of a thousand camels! LOL! Your table is lovely! What a bargain for $30! That is so nice that you get all new fixtures. Actually I thought the teal tub was pretty cool but I prefer old fashioned any day. So nice that you have so much help.

  20. Oh Betsy. You are all together! Hooray! Im so sorry about your car.
I have been sad about Teresa and thought of what she'd tell me as I decide If i should volunteer at the barn again. I had been looking for a sign, and a friend from the Barn texted my husband last night . He wondered if we were coming back. Which led to us talking and taking a small step. We will come back in a different capacity. I won't be handling the horses, as I got hurt last year and do not want my husband or I to get hurt again. We just are not natural horse people. They assured us there is plenty to do without doing the customary leading and helping in class. So , I felt like Teresa prompted the text last night. I really did.

  21. Will continue to keep Dayle and Teresa's family close in my thoughts. As with everything in doubt with thinning of bleeding hearts and hostas, check with pinterest or youtube for advice. You can either take it or leave it.

  22. I hope you got the "high rise" toilets. You may regret it in the long run. They are great!

  23. Ouch on the car but like you said it can be fixed...
so glad that DEnnis is there with you to fix stuff and make it easier for you!
Hosta can be divided anytime...I have seen huge shovel fulls of ones just sitting in yards in the summer. It is hard work getting them out of the ground...have some young man help you. You will see the roots are easily transplanted and it looks like you have enough for a good planting somewhere else! You can just leave them for winter they will freeze off and be easy to clean up late fall or in the spring. The Bleeding Heart can be divided after it blooms...in some ares they die back after they have bloomed. Same thing shovel some out hack it into pieces and replant...if you replant in the heat of the summer make sure they are well watered or wait until Fall:)

  24. It sounds like things are really coming together in the new house. So sorry about the dent, I am thinking that person isn't feeling very bad about it, which is so sad. Stay safe Betsy.

  27. Sounds like you're getting settled but I will miss knowing that you're in Spokane. I've been so out of touch, and it was a shock to learn about Teresa's passing. So sad! That is an enormous bleeding heart. Take good care of it! Looks like you are going to have s really nice garden. That's a really big hosta, too. The ones we planted last year were immediately devoured by something, but they came back surprisingly and now are in "cages". So far, so good! Hugs to you, and thanks for your post after my long absence>

  29. Hello Betsy - I've followed you for a long time and always love your posts. First of all, I knew in my heart there was a connection between you and Teresa - you seem so alike. So sad and what a shock. How dreadful to do that to your then drive off. Someone tried to do that in a multi-storey car park at our town centre shopping mall. Just as she was about to drive off the security guys stopped her for her details - she'd been seen on their CCTV. What she didn't know was that I was trading the car in for a new one just a few weeks later - so I phoned her and then let her sweat thinking I was seeking estimates for repair. To this day I never enlightened her. Yes, you divide hostas and the bleeding heart will die down over Winter. I wish you lots of joy in your lovely new home. Hugs, Di xx
