Alone Again

Hello everyone! Surprise, surprise. I’m home alone with Chloe yet again. I was not able to go with Dennis to the funeral, but he did drive to Helena, Montana this morning and pick up our son Jamie, who is going with him. I’m glad he’s not making the drive by himself. I was really worried about it, but you can’t change what you can’t change. It’s probably for the best with all of the fires around here anyway. He got all of our important papers and documents and put them where it would be easy for me to grab and load the car up if I’m forced to evacuate because of fire. The way things are going in Washington, Oregon and California it’s not a far-fetched idea.

I started a pair of socks for his mom on Sunday night and I finished them about noon yesterday. These are plain vanilla socks as I didn’t have time to do a pattern and she likes the plain ones anyway. This is the Lion Brand Sock-Ease yarn in the rock candy colorway.  Mom really likes the socks I make her with this yarn. She wears them year-round because her feet are always cold. I don’t think I can make her too many socks.  Here they are with my feet modeling them for you.

I also put up my fall decorations yesterday such as they are. There’s not a whole lot of room. Maybe I’ll share one photo at a time with you. That way they will last longer. :-)

I am happy that I still have an island to hang my crocheted garlands on. The sign is one I picked up at the Dollar Tree several years ago.  It does make me ridiculously happy to still have some of our familiar things around us while living in the trailer.

Tuesday I ordered flowers for Karen’s memorial service on Saturday. I hope Dennis remembers to take a picture for me that I can share with you. Her favorite color was yellow so I ordered a standing spray of white flowers with yellow accents and a yellow ribbon that says “sister.”  It truly breaks my heart that I was not able to go, but I know Karen is the first one who would understand why I didn’t.  I’m also very, very happy that Jamie was able to get the time away and go with his Dad. As I said, I didn’t want him driving that trip alone again so soon after his last trip. It’s a long, long drive and also, they will get to have some quantity and quality father/son time that they haven’t had in years.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and those of you that have family or yourself in the vicinity of the fires, I pray that you all stay safe and alert. These are perilous times that we’re living in.

Blessings,
Betsy

  1. So sorry you could not go with Dennis Betsy. I'm glad your son can accompany him. Hope you stay safe and I certainly hope you do not need to evacuate either while Dennis is away or when he is back home again. Those fires are just horrible!

  2. I'm so sorry that you were unable to go with Dennis to Karen's funeral. It's good that your son can go with him so he doesn't have to make that long trip alone. The socks are so nice... I love that yarn too, it's nice and soft and easy to work with. I think your fall decor looks lovely!

  3. I'm glad that you will be staying home with Chloe and being on the ready if a fire threatens your area, you can't be too careful with the heat and winds and dry grasses and underbrush. I am so glad Jamie is traveling with Dennis, what a great opportunity for them to catch up on everything. Sandy, where Travis' home is, is now evacuation level 2. So Kristi is over there packing up more things. So many homes have been lost and I imagine many animals have died along with some people, too. Just awful. Take care and get some crafty things going to keep you occupied. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  4. Some funeral homes are doing services that you can watch. Perhaps that is an option. I am so glad someone is with your husband and helping him drive. The socks look wonderful! I hope you don't have to evacuate but pack a bag for you and Chloe anyway just incase...medications and some food for both of you:)Maybe the fires will go out pretty soon...it must be real hard for people with breathing problems. It is very scary.

  5. That is sad yet understandable that you could not attend the memorial service. Jamie and Dennis will have some bonding time on the trip. Air quality at my home in California is poor, the sky looks dark and yellow all day.

  6. So sorry you were not able to go with Dennis, but glad for the time Jamie and Dennis get to be with each other. Lovely socks and Fall decorations. It is smoky over here, too. This afternoon Elisabeth and Gary took their camper and cats to his aunt's safer location than their house. Lots to pray about. 💜🙏

  7. Having to assemble important papers in readiness for evacuation really makes the threat feel real. Hopefully nothing that drastic will be needed. It's so great that your son could go with Dennis. Like you said...some quality Dad/Son time together. Take care

  8. Sad to read you didn't get to go with Dennis but praying you stay safe and not evacute. I do have items packed and more if need be. Level 0 for now. Justin, wife and kids are here for awhile. Apparently there are many hotels already full on the freeway in OR. So many people have had to leave their homes. Especially Clackamas County, where Justin lives. Praying there is rain to come down on this dry earth and help douse the fires and give relief for our fire fighters. Worst fires in years!! I think it's worse than the Columbia Gorge fire a few years ago!!! I like the sox you made for mom. Looks cozy!!! Take care my friend! Praying for you and Dennis and family!!! Hugs! Becky L

  9. Dear Besty.. how quickly things change.. you were going with Dennis but not now.. was praying for you through our night and today with my friend over the phone, prayed for journey mercies, sorry you couldn't go but wonderful Jamie is going with his dad as you say quality time. As I prayed with my friend I prated that beautifulpromise in Psalms, The Angel of the Lord encampeth about them that fear Him and delivereth him." So praying that verse for travelling oneand also for the fires there to be contained safely from folks.
Praying too wool will be available to finish that shawl. We've things out of stock too.

Thanks for sharing, and may God bless and keep you and all whom you love safe and well.
Prayer hugs, Shaz in Oz. X

  10. Such a shame you couldn't go with Dennis but reading between the lines of your post I feel you are very relieved your son can go with him and although it is a sad time for your family they do get some time together. It isn't good to be alone on such a very long drive. I have been watching the fires report on BBC World ...such devastation....hoping for you that it doesn't mean you have to evacuate! Wildfires are also causing havoc in Southern Spain here and the worst is they say it is believed to be arson. Take care Amanda x

  11. I am so sorry to hear this. It must be so scary to be so close to those fires. Here in the east we are flooding. I wish I could send you some of this rain. It was a disaster here yesterday with all the roads closed and so many cars swamped and under water. I've never seen so many at once on major highways. It's still raining now. Ugh.

  12. Sending prayer for Dennis to have a safe trip. I love the socks you make, good thing I am not a close relative of yours, I would need a pair for everyday of the year! I am also a "big" sock person, nothing better than putting on warm comfortable socks!

  14. Thinking of you and keeping you in prayer, and especially for safety with the wildfires going on. Praying for Dennis and all the family this weekdn. God will be with each and every one of them. He had Karen safe and whole with Him now! I totally LOVE those socks. I think they're mighty nice the way they are! We finally had rain here this week and the temps went from 100 all the way down to the 40s! I'm lovin' the cooler weather! Prayers and blessings, my dear friend!

  16. I am so sorry you weren't able to go, and I can only imagine how worried you were about Dennis traveling alone again so soon. Thank the dear Lord, your son can be with him, and there is a reason God allowed it all to play out like it did. I trust He will comfort you and be ever so close to you while Dennis is away and being him safely home to you. Praying for you and sending hugs your way, sweet friend.

  20. With everything going on in your area right now, you are smart to stay home at this time... That is a long trip --especially when you don't feel as if you can stop and spend the night somewhere along the way. I am so glad that your son can go with his Dad... That worked out well. But I know how sad you are to miss the funeral. Prayers for YOU!!!

In the meantime, I'll continue to pray for RAIN --and hope and pray that you won't have to evacuate..... Scary times!!!!

    Hugs,
    Betsy
