Sunshine!

We have had some glorious, glorious sunshine this week. I have even been able to leave the patio door open a little so Chloe can wander in and out at will.  Poor Chloe had to have three teeth pulled last Friday. Since she is at least 13 years old, it’s amazing that those are the first teeth she has had any problems with. She was a trooper. She is still eating soft foods but seems to be doing very well.

The verdict is still out on whether the injections worked last Tuesday. I haven’t had actual spasms since then, but my back sure does feel tight. I admit, I haven’t pushed things either and have been babying it. I probably should get more aggressive in my activity and see what happens.

I finished a stack of dish cloths that are destined to be gifts. I can get three of these dish cloths out of one skein of Hobby Lobby‘s “I love this cotton.”  Each skein had about 1 1/2 yards left after I bound off the third cloth.  I like this pattern because of the ridges. They make scrubbing dishes and counters very easy.

I also finished one baby blanket and I’m joining the squares for a second one. These will be for charity. I have not washed or blocked the completed one yet so it’s a little bit wrinkly.

I made the squares one round smaller on the second blanket and I will put a larger border on it.
My fall decor is still in full swing here. I probably have a bit too much out, but I do love the colors.

Dennis was craving tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches over the weekend so I decided to fancy them both up a bit. I added some garlic and onion powder and diced tomatoes to the soup. The sandwiches were made with smoked gouda and cheddar cheeses, both shredded and melted on sourdough bread. Oh my goodness! This sure stepped up the normal tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. And it did nothing for my diet!

Halloween was a very cold day back in Nebraska, so Piper was bundled up in all kinds of layers to go trick-or-treating. Notice the mittens I made her!  She chose the colors while we were face-timing. I took her to my yarn closet and she picked the skeins out. They match her coat perfectly! She does have quite the eye for color, even from 1500 miles away!
I think she had two pairs of pants underneath her costume along with a couple of tops too!  But that wig! I think it’s hilarious!  *** edited to add: Piper was a character in the new Disney movie “The Decendents.”  She is the daughter of Queen Maleficent, but I don’t remember her name.  Apparently the movie focuses on the children of the evil villains in the Disney movies.

Mandy sent this photo last night. Apparently there was a Little Mermaid live event on TV and Piper was enthralled. She has always loved the little mermaid. I think it’s her favorite Disney princess.
My little knitting bunny is enjoying the fall colors too!
And finally, there was a package delivered in the mail yesterday. It was full of these sweet thank you notes from the children at the elementary school for their mittens. Sherri these also belong to you for the mittens that you donated.  They made my heart melt.

I was told about a knitting group that makes hats for charity at a nursing home. They meet on Wednesdays for an hour in the afternoon. I think I’m going to drop in today and see if outsiders can join in. I miss being with other ladies and I think the companionship would be fun.

I’m getting excited. In less than three weeks all of our children will be here at our house for Thanksgiving. It will be the first time we have all been together since Piper was nine months old. Almost 7 years! Although they won’t be here very long, I’m sure looking forward to spending the time together and seeing all three grandchildren interacting with each other.  We will also celebrate Christmas with them while they are here. I have to tell you, this grandma can hardly contain herself. :-)

I hope you’re all having a wonderful week and enjoying some of the beautiful crisp fall weather that we are.

”Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.”  Isaiah 25:1

Blessings,
Betsy

  2. Temperatures have been in the high 40s here - it's heavenly and quite a change from -20°F last week! It's fun to get thank you notes from school children: I'm glad you got a nice variety. I'm thrilled that your whole family is gathering for Thanksgiving.

  3. I imagine you are SO excited for Thanksgiving to get here. It will be wonderful for you and Dennis to have all your children and grandchildren there. Pretty knitting Betsy! What pattern do you use for your dish cloths? The baby blankets are so pretty too. Lucky babies to be receiving those. There is just something about tomato soup and grilled cheese together, isn't there? Yours looks delicious!! I do hope your back is ok.

  5. What a happy post today!! Glad you will be spending time with your lovies this Thanksgiving. WE WILL TOO! We haven't had a major holiday with our son since he went to work in D.C. The courts don't take "day after" holidays off. Our son works for the immigration court. We will be down to DC for Thanksgiving (at Steve's brother who we have not seen in over 12 years) AND Stephen will be here for Christmas week. He is taking a well deserved vacation and since he is now the SENIOR member of his office, he got that week! YAY!!!

  6. I'm so happy for you to have the whole family together on Thanksgiving! I know you're going to be thrilled the whole time. I love your dishcloth design. I have a crochet pattern that is very similar. I'm glad you love your little knitting bunny and I'm happy to have been able to order it for you. I have one just like her and I think of you every time I see it. I don't think you have too many Autumn decorations.. lol.. you know I have a lot, too. Be sure to take it easy and not overdo so you'll be in good shape for your company! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  7. Well, dear Betsy ....where to start what a lovely post!?!
Well, will start with health, I consider apart from spiritual side the most important part, and so pray you’re back is okay as last time with no spasms.
Are you able to have a bath? Epsom salts bath (it’s magnesium sulphate commonly put on lemon tree fro green leaves too, but great for bodies) is great for tight muscles, but you may not be able to do so.
Love your china bunny tis soo cute, and crotchet cloths are lovely, as are blankies. Piper is growing so tall, such a pretty smiling lassie, etc.
I will admit I do not like Halloween and it’s ungodly associations though. Struggle with it like Santa Claus I do not think it honours God. God wants us to honour Him and Him only, Satan loves to supplant with counterfeits.
Loved the children’s thanks you’s too Betsy, treasures indeed to spur on for next year. So absolutely excited re your coming family celebrations too sis so wonderful to have Alex and everyone else home too.
God be with you all in it. ❤️❤️❤️

  8. What a wonderful post! Miss Piper looks so adorable, and cold. I love the picture of where she is watching the Little Mermaid. Too, too, too cute. That is awesome news that everyone will be together for Thanksgiving. Yay! Your love projects (items given away to others from the love of your heart) are lovely. Those letters from the children who were blessed with your mittens are adorable. Oh I can't wait to hear about the hat ladies. Ohhh the soul and sammie sound yummy. I send prayers for your back sweet friend. Blessings to you always my dear friend. ((hugs))

  11. Your knitting projects are nice! We have had some sunny days after fog. Piper is so cute and I did heard about live Mermaid show. Hope your back feels better. Gone a few days at a holiday market and hopefully I'll sell more in the next couple days. Wish I was able to shop in the big bldg but have nobody to watch my booth except for a few minutes away. Have a good weekend my friend!! Hugs!

  12. This is such a good post! Piper is so pretty! You make such pretty dishcloths. I bought two from a girl at a craft show last November and have been using them. I now have four but the two newest ones had holes come in the center almost like they were coming apart. I though that was unusual. We like tomato soup and grill cheese too, but it's never looked that delicious.

  14. I love the dishcloth pattern also and wonder what your pattern was? You sure do crank out a lot of knitting! Do you ever tire of it? I think getting together with the ladies to make hats is a wonderful idea. I hope your back is okay. Having all family together at once is such a blessing. Nancy
