Another....

Happy Tuesday everyone! It’s still cold here. Very, very cold, as in our lows have been below zero for several nights, but at least we haven’t had snow in about five days. I would love to see spring, but I’ll take the cold temperatures over the snowfall any day.

So, do you all remember that pink sweater I knitted for Piper last week?  Here’s a picture in case you have forgotten.

Look how wonky it is. One side of the front is noticeably wider than the other side. Here’s a picture of my sweet girl wearing it.  (I should have just ripped it out and not even mailed it.). Hindsight is 20/20.

There is obviously something very wrong with it and it doesn’t fit correctly at all. So I couldn’t let it stay like that. Out came more yarn and I have I started a new sweater in lavender for her. I got to the same place, where you divide for the sleeves and after frogging it three separate times and following the pattern to a T, I realized that it wasn’t me, it really was the way the pattern was written. So I got out my trusty calculator and refigured where the sleeves should go and this is where I’m at this morning.

Much, much better. The sleeves are actually in the same spot on both sides. I’ll continue working on this and hopefully finish it in the next day or two. However, Miss Piper really wanted a pink one to go with her Easter dress so I’ll have to see what I can do about that.  Maybe a third sweater will be on the needles before long, but I will have to go yarn shopping before I can start another one.

I also knitted myself a Sockhead Cowl over the past week. I was inspired by Nancy over at Wyoming Breezes on my sidebar.  This is knitted from Knit Picks Stroll Fingering yarn in the colorway, “Skating Rink Hand Painted.”  I used almost the entire 100 g skein with about 18 inches left over after I bound off.  In knitting this project I learned a new cast on and a new bind off.  Both are super stretchy. It’s always fun learning new techniques.

I am a bit disappointed in the way the colors show up. In the skein it looked as if there was a lot more pink which would match my winter jacket. This has a lot more blacks, grays and blues in it. I may end up giving it away.

I did give away the Utilitarian Faroese shawl that I made for myself.  We had a houseguest last week and she couldn’t seem to get warm. I loaned her my shawl to wear while she was here and she liked it so much I told her she could keep it. Dennis just shakes his head at me. Ha!  Hey, I did actually wear it once or twice before I gave it away this time. :-)  She told me she has worn it nonstop around her house since I gave it to her. This pattern is fantastic. It stays on your shoulders and doesn’t fall off like most shawls.
I bought some yarn this weekend to make another one for myself. I’m really hoping to have it to use at the lake this summer on those chilly summer evenings in the mountains. I think after I finish Pipers sweaters that will be my next project.

A few snow photos.

And this is our front yard.  About 4 feet of snow right now.  You can see where the electric meter reader tried to wade through the snow. It was up to his waist!

And Frannie, my faithful knit companion. I really don’t know what I did without her.

I love having an animal snuggling with me on my lap while I  knit or crochet.

I hope you’re all having a lovely week so far and staying warm...or cool if you’re down under. I had my eyes examined yesterday and ordered new glasses this morning. I also had physical therapy this morning and I see the actual spine doctor tomorrow. Fun times! Is this what it means to be old? Doctors appointments constantly?  The physical therapist isn’t very happy with my progress and has a put notes in the computer for the doctor tomorrow. He’s recommending a more aggressive therapy. Whatever that means. Oh well. I just keep plugging on. What else can you do?

I have still been knitting on the little mini socks for the Veterans Home, but have set them aside for a couple of days to do Pipers sweater. I also think they will make a lovely summer project, because they are small.  They work up so quickly and it’s very satisfying to knit them.

“A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.”Proverbs 21:2

Blessings,
Betsy

  1. You should send your corrections to the sweater to the designer or at least share them on your Ravelry project notes. Love the Sockhead Cowl - Vera is the one who told me about the pattern.

  2. I hope Piper's sweater pattern wasn't a paid for pattern. I'd be really aggravated about THAT!! Even wonky ...........she is STILL adorable in her sweater.

  4. I think the sweater looks adorable on Piper.. and I bet she'll love the lavender one AND the new pink one.. she is one well-loved child. You need to model that cowl so we can see how it works. You are so kind to give away your own shawl.. but I'm not surprised as you are very generous, my friend. The big doily you made for my baby grand piano is one of my treasures. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  5. Piper is so adorable in her sweater wonky or not!
I can't believe you got that cowl finished so quickly. With your weather it must be a matter of necessity. We are back in the 20's today. Booooooo.....

  6. I am trying to catch up with reading blogs and I am way behind. I love the sweater for Piper and I can see what you mean but when it's on her you don't notice it at all. I love the purple!
I missed what the little red stockings are for. They are sure cute though. I hope your therapy helps you...spasms are so painful! I was wondering if it could possibly be where you sit? Do you sit in the same chair all the time or in the same position? Maybe you need to change things up and see if it makes a difference. Remember the saying..."insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results"....lol! Just teasing but whatever might possibly help you. If you try something different and it doesn't help you are no worse off.
I love your photos of the mountains and glad you have those great tires to drive on.
Piper's new pet is so cute. Your baby blanket and hats are very nice and the cowl too. Take care and stay warm. It's cold here too....13 and 16 each morning this week so far....brrr!

  7. Oh that is so frustrating about the sweater pattern! Still, the pink version looks adorable on Piper and that lavender yarn is beautiful! Though we are not quite as cold as you, our snow from Sunday is not melting. We are again not going to get to the freezing mark today. Next week looks a tad more promising though. Hopefully for you as well.

  8. Betsy you are so generous, its like wearing a hug wearing a shawl. Miss Piper looked adorable in her new cardigan, now that you know you were not at fault you should let the pattern writer know. The lavender colour of the new sweater is adorable. The cowl is beautiful and needed to keep warm in all that snow. Roll on Spring.

  9. Piper and the sweater look so sweet. I know what you mean though. When I make things for others I want to be able to look at it and say all right. Piper doesn't look like she minds, either.
The cowl turned out lovely also.
I hope you have a blessed week

  12. Piper looks great in that sweater! But she's lucky you are going to make her another one. We got welcomed home from AZ last night by fog, and then woke up to snow this morning! This weather is crazy. Hope you find more relief from your back pain!!! Lots of hugs from this side of the mts.

  13. A shame about the pink sweater. It's good you were able to figure out the pattern problem. The lavender one is very pretty. I sure needed a warm shawl when we were in Jerusalem. Several days there were so cold and rainy. Very kind of you to give your knitted shawl away. Frannie looks very cozy and comfortable. I'm curious to hear what aggressive therapy is for your back. It's just incredible that with all the medical knowledge, back issues are still something that can be so hard to manage for so many people. My friend's husband has wound up retiring from his job and is now having another month long treatment in India for his back. He refuses to have another surgery after the botched ones that didn't help much at all. Sending hugs and blessings of healing your way. Take care!

  14. Aw, I think the pink sweater for little Piper is just beautiful! I couldn't even notice the things you mentioned! Lavender will be so pretty, too. Wow! That is a LOT of snow! So happy you are getting a reprieve from it. Spring will be here before we know it. It was SO sweet of you to give that dear lady your shawl. You have the sweetest, most generous heart. I am SO blessed to call you friend! May the dear Lord bless you richly!

  15. I agree with others Betsy the pink sweater looks great... I’m sure there are errors but not visible to the inexpert like moi! I’m sorry I’m late I’m getting around.
Story of my life. Love the purple and snood you’re making look great, and wow that’s one dedicated meter reader goign through four feet of snow like that!
Pryaing a good outcome with your visits. I so know what you mean with dr visits etc but then I’ve had them since teens. Pills and Drs since then or be dead.
    Prayer hugs dear sis.

  16. I hope your doctor appointment went well Betsy and you had come up with a plan to help your back. I still think acupuncture would help. I am glad you figured out the sweater, was it supposed to be asymmetrical? Did you see a photo of it before making it? I am in awe of you calculating it all out and making it the right way. sending you love for healing and a nice warm few days so some of that snow can melt.
