Camping

Hello my friends. Some of you may have noticed that I haven’t been commenting on your blogs the past couple of days. That’s because I don’t have my laptop with me and we are out camping. We sure do love this camping as retired people. You can camp during the week when there’s no one else here! We have been at Lewis and Clark State Park in Iowa for the past couple of days. It is so pretty here. Our cousins and good friends Curt and Barb are camped right next to us. We’ve been having a great time sharing meals and taking walks. Today we drove to our church camp that is across the lake and wandered around there. Dennis has been there for several workdays, but I had never been to the camp before.  When we lived here before, Mandy and Jamie went to a church camp south of Omaha, this one is about one hour north. It is a beautiful place. Dennis and I have already booked three more nights here at the State Park very soon before the season ends. We’ve decided that will be our last trip out for the season, unless we’re lucky enough to go south at some point this winter.

Here we are sitting outside Curt and Barb‘s camper. They just bought it this spring and have been out a lot in this little trailer this summer. It’s very cute but does not have a bathroom in it. I love having my own bathroom. I don’t have to worry about the cleanliness of public bathrooms. This is a pop-up, but without the typical canvas sides. They like to camp in the mountains like we do and so they needed a hard sided camper because the bears, mountain lions and cougars.

There’s our truck and the camper. The sites here were very, very large. There was plenty of room for us to spread out. The first two nights there were only two other campers in the entire campground.

Did you notice that gorgeous red tree above Curt and Barb‘s camper? The fall colors this weekend are absolutely perfect.

This was our campfire last night. Zoey enjoyed it as much as we did.

Gorgeous beautiful golden leaves.🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁

And just look at the trees across the lake. The church camp it’s just to the right of this view.

And this was our campfire tonight. We played trivia and Family Feud around the fire. By the time we came inside at 10:00 it was down to 57°F. Tomorrow night is supposed to be below freezing. Brrrr.

I did manage to finish a pair of Christmas socks. They are made with a simple 2 x 2 ribbing down the leg and then a plain foot. Before we left yesterday, I finished a new cardigan for Miss “J” in London that will be part of her Christmas gift. I have also begun working on another prayer shawl identical to the one I finished last week. I need to buy yarn when I get home to make Miss Piper a new sweater for Christmas. Technically I have finished everything I was making for Christmas, but decided to add a sweater for Miss Piper and Miss “J” because I have time and I know Piper loves the sweaters.

We are absolutely loving our time in the trailer and enjoying the beautiful crisp fall weather. We are so thankful that God has blessed us with a beautiful place we can come camping. We also have wonderful people who volunteer to watch our house for us while we’re gone and we really appreciate that too.

I hope you are all having a wonderful week. Take care and stay safe.

Blessings and love,
Betsy

  1. Nice colorful leaves on trees. Glad you're enjoying the time away from home for awhile. I just reorganized some Precious Moments items in living room since I needed put the cloth underneath them again. Nativity in different areas and adults that depict our lives are on that area. Realize I need to do downsized things as well. Plan to have a few people here from church for a get together class. Hope it does work out this time. We actually had some rain today which is a good thing. Have fun and blessings ad God keep you all safe.

  5. What a wonderful time you are having! Someone down at the beach has one of those little tear drop campers that is just the cutest thing ever. I'd love to see inside it. It's nice to see the leaves are changing somewhere. It's still green here and temps back in the 80's today but I don't care as long we get some sunshine. It's been a week since we've had any.

  6. Pretty photos. That pop-up camper is pretty cool. Looks like a tiny A-frame house.

  8. Just the mention of bears and cougars makes me shiver with fear. But I'm a real scaredy cat. The Autumn colour of those trees is so pretty. I'm glad you got to go camping before the weather turns too cold. I notice some lap quilts were being used.
I always appreciated having our own bathroom in our RV. It just a camperized van but had everything we needed and we RV'd for many years.

  9. This has to be the prettiest time of year to go camping and you have found the perfect spot! I enjoy the cooler temps especially with a blanket and campfire. I bet it was so fun to play games during the evening. Enjoy your break and I hope the next trip is just as wonderful.

  10. I just love seeing you and Dennis out enjoying your new camper. The campsite looks wonderful and aren't the colors gorgeous this year! So glad you're having such a great time out camping....and you've gotten all your Christmas gifts done, except for those you're adding to the list. Good for you! Have fun and take good care!

  11. Fall camping is the best! We camped in Grand Marais MN a couple weeks ago in our camper that is just like your friend’s. We love our little A frame pop up. And it does have a tiny bathroom of sorts, which we used a couple times, when we camped at a place with a questionable shower house.

  13. Heyyyyyy, where are the marshmallows! I sure miss all the camping Jerry and used to do. We always had a bag (or two lol) of marshmallows for roasting. Aero wants to roast marshmallows in their backyard firepit, but, well, all our dry air and no moisture is a big problem. *sigh* I miss sitting outdoors each evening in nature, too. The trees around here went from green to *poof* brown seemingly overnight. I'm wondering if there will be any color at all this year! We always tent camped, so I don't know anything about having a camper like yours... except for looking at them at the state fair lol. We used to look through all the different styles when Jerry could still get up and down and in and out. Haven't in a long time, but I know a lot of them look fabulous inside. Enjoy your time out and about! Hugs and blessings to you, my friend!

  14. The only thing wrong with your camping photos is that I'm not there with my camper pick-up. Sitting around the camp fire is one of the best parts of camping. Love the bright red tree :). It's wonderful seeing you and Dennis out enjoying your retirement. God bless you both.
