New Beginnings

It’s a new month already! I don’t know how we’ve gotten to November already this year, but here it is. Usually by this time I’m completely done with Christmas purchases. This year I’ve barely even started.

It sounds like neighborhoods either had a lot of trick-or-treaters last night or none. We were in the big fat zero group. So disappointing. I really like to look at the costumes. I had bought quite a lot of candy so I plan to freeze most of it. That way at least it will take some thought to eat it, the rest we will take to Bible study Wednesday night.

Mandy and Brad‘s neighborhood had scads of kids. Mandy and her neighbor took the girls around the neighborhood while Brad and Jeff manned the candy bowls. They had set up the outdoor fire pit on the driveway to keep warm, as had several other neighbors that I could see by the pictures Mandy sent. Lizzie kept warm inside Brad‘s coat and everybody had an absolutely wonderful time. I wish we had gone out there and spent the evening. I guess next year I’ll know not to buy any candy at all.

Here’s Miss Piper dressed up as Carmen Sandiego at the school parade on Friday. I think she’s beautiful.

Mandy and Piper bought matching bags for Lizzie and Zoey.
It’s amazing how many things you have to take with you for an outing with a puppy. It’s almost like packing a diaper bag. Would you believe we ordered a dog stroller last night? We’re thinking it could come in handy in the future. We have become one of “those” people! When I showed Dennis how nicely Debbie’s dog Pup sits in the stroller he was sold. You can find Debbie’s blog, “Araignee” over on my side bar.

This is the back of the bag and of course Zoey had to come and see what I was doing when she saw that I had her bag. Any treats falling out of it Mom?

This is a horrible picture and I apologize. The lighting is so bad today. All it is is the cuff of a sock that I am making for Kathy at Compassion Knits” new charity. You just make one sock and send it to her and she will make sure that it gets to a group who distributes socks to amputees.  A very worthy cause. It also will give me a chance to use up some half skeins of sock yarn.

Mandy really liked the wrist warmers that I made for Kyleigh so she asked if I would make a pair of them for Brad‘s assistant in Washington DC for Christmas. We bought the yarn Saturday evening and I whipped this one up in no time. Again, the lighting is terrible.
This photo is much more representative of the color yarn. This is such a fun pattern. again, it is “Cloudburst” by Arienne Gray and is free on Ravelry.

Dennis is going up to church tonight to help replace some windows. I plan to stay home and knit. Zoey and I will go for a walk in a little while when it gets a little warmer. The temperatures have plummeted quickly here. I’m hoping for a safe and wonderful week for all of you my dear friends. May God bless each and everyone of you with good health and the love of family and friends. He is our only true hope in a world that seems to be spinning out of control at times.

Blessings and love,
Betsy

    1. Thanks for telling me. We should have never named Zoey so close sounding to Chloe. I'm constantly calling her that too. :-)

    2. Betsy, I had two toy poodles at once that both had the name Buffy when I rescued them. The older one stayed Buffy and the younger one was Missy B until my original Buffy passed away. But I would call Buffy and both would come but confused everyone else. Only Mom and I could tell them a part. Now I just have Buffy2.

  3. My … red certainly suits Piper she looks very glamorous in her outfit! More wrist warmers how lovely and they look super soft and warm too. I have just finished a Christmas make, my first. I am determined to get my Christmas make gifts off early this year as last year several didn’t arrive until January, a real nuisance! Zoey looks so at home with you ! I think you and Dennis have been fully adopted by her LOL ! Take care. Amanda x

  4. Piper is rocking that outfit! What cute dog bags! Sorry you are stuck with candy...we have some leftover also...I sent some over to my brother today he still packs a lunch! It is hard to know how much candy to buy. You are a fast knitter!! That is a wonderful project with the one sock...so glad someone thought of it!

  5. Piper sure is cute and looks so grown up!! Glad she had a good Halloween. We nly had one group come to our door last night: 2 little kids, two older kids and one Dad. That was it! Zoey is so cute.

  6. Piper is a beautiful Carmen San Diego.

That was one of Stephen's favorite shows when he was a kid.

  7. What a good idea to make single socks for amputees. I imagine it goes quickly too. Miss Piper looks great in her costume. Nice that it wasn't raining but too bad you had no trick or treaters.

  8. Piper is beautiful! Oh that red outfit just suits her. Love the little doggie bags. We haven't had any trick or treaters in 30 years. They just don't come down a dark dirt road in the country, and I don't blame them. I used to love having the children knock at the door on Halloween.

  9. Piper looks so grownup in that costume - very sophisticated. No trick or treaters last night which I anticipated so I didn’t purchase candy. I don’t need the temptation.

  10. What a splendid idea for the amputees ! Piper is absolutely stunning in her costume! I dare say she looks so much older than she is! Jerry and I have never handed out treats ourselves (we hide out at home on that day, just don't like it as I had a horrible experience a long, long time ago).... well, except when the grandkids were brought over when they were young and that was it. John took Aero out last night to the police station for treats, but then they went home. Those doggy bags are super cute... looks like the puppies could fit in them and still have room for goodies! I cannot believe we are so close to the end of the year already... when did I blink?! Haha! Blessings and hugs, my friend!

  12. Piper's costume was adorable! We had zero trick or treaters as well. Could you please post the information for Kathy's charity? My cousin loves to knit socks and is always looking for a place to donate them. Thank you. Have a great week!

  13. My daughter has new pug puppy and one year old. The pug rides in the buggy undercarriage pocket. It’s mesh on sides so he can look out. Lol

  14. I didn't even have to read the post to know who Piper was...how sad is that? Once a teacher, always a teacher...lol! Your pup is so darn cute. That is such a great age. I wish my pup was still playful. She won't even look at her basket of toys anymore. All she wants is treats.

  15. So sad that you didn't get anyone! Both Dave and I love the costumes. I gave out the candy, but Dave was out there the whole time talking to the kids. He has lots of idea for next year.

Zoey is too darn cute. I kind of want to get a stroller for Burton. I think he'd love to walk around town! But then I'd totally be "THAT" kind of crazy cat lady, lol!

  18. When I saw Pipers Carmen Santiago cosyume, I couldn't help singing "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" from the old PBS show from my girls childhood. You have a blessed coming weekend!I'm going to try and remember to comment using my WordPress account. I just never remember to do that!

  22. We had the same exact thing happen at our house - not one trick-or-treater last year, so we didn't even buy any this year. I miss it, too. It seemed so forlorn and sad. BUT, we went out to eat and we got to see a LOT of kids out trick-or-treating in a neighborhood not too far away. It did my heart good to see families out doing something so normal again, and they all seemed so happy and like they were having so much fun. Sounds like Mandy's neighborhood was the same way. Oh, well, you will know for next year to go to their house! LOL! God bless you.

  23. Piper as a Carmen Sandiego is lovely! Sad you didn't have trick or treaters! We haven't done it in years! I did take a bag of candy with us to children's church last Sunday. They have snacks so when they lined up for a drink I gave out the small Milky Way bar to ones who wanted one. It has been chilly, somewhat breezy and raining lately. We were out of internet for awhile today as there was an accident on 99E that someone hit the power pole and it was knocked down and it affected the internet all over town. Good thing we still had electricity. I did sent you an email last evening. I hope you read it. Hugs and blessings my friend!

  24. Piper's costume was adorable and what a great idea. Zoey is precious and I love the treat bags. Great idea for the socks and the mitt pattern is so pretty. God is all we have to cling to....you are so right! But that is enough for me! Bless you and Dennis and your family.
