Fall!

Fall has arrived and I couldn’t be happier. We had our windows open again last night and it was wonderful. It seems like it has been months since we’ve been able to open our windows and leave them open. The sky is bright blue today and from where I’m sitting I can see the flag flying outside our front door. It’s a beautiful day.

Last Saturday we decided to take a drive with Mandy and Piper and the two puppies. Have any of you watched “Heartland Docs” on the Disney Channel? We absolutely love that show. There are three seasons and we’ve watched them all several times. The fourth season is being filmed now. Anyway, the show is about a husband and wife veterinarian team, Ben and Erin. They live in Hartington Nebraska with their teenage sons Charlie and Chase. The show is about the animals that they help in their veterinary practice. Saturday was a beautiful day so we loaded up the truck and drove two hours to Hartington. We stopped at the vet clinic for a photo and then visited the store and hotel that the family have remodeled and re-opened. The store is called Chase n Charlie’s. It has lots of unusual things along with the typical touristy items.

There is a beautiful city park where we went to let the dogs run and get some of their energy out before we started the drive back home. The park was huge and very well-kept. If it weren’t so far away from family, I think Hartington would be a lovely place to live.

Piper and I rode together in the backseat with the puppies. Lizzie is sound asleep in Piper‘s arms and you can just see Zoey‘s paw hanging down on my lap.

Here we are in front of the Cedar County veterinary office.

Nebraska farmland is just beautiful. The rolling hills are changing color into its fall covering.

The girls just love to play with each other. Here they are in Lizzie‘s bed at Mandy‘s house. When I tried to take the picture, of course they both woke up. They love to sleep together all cuddled up.

I made Zoey a purple sweater because she is so tiny the vet actually told me I would want to put something on her with the chilly evenings and the cold winter that will be in coming before we know it.

This is a better picture of the sweater.

This one is for Lizzie. It’s inside out as I’m sewing the neck seam together.

We were on our way home from Lowe’s the other night, when I saw this big beautiful moon up ahead. I’m sorry it’s a bit blurry but we were driving 45 mph down the street and there were some bumps in the road. Every time I see a big beautiful moon, I think of dear Teresa. I sure miss her and her blog and especially her friendship.

Dennis and I both got our flu shots yesterday. For the first time in years I didn’t run a fever or even have a sore arm afterwards. It’s been 24 hours now so I think I’m out of danger.😍 We both need to get our shingles vaccinations too. Since I’ve had shingles before and only the old shingles shot, I guess the Singrix is the injection that we both need to get now.  It’s always something.

Thank you all for your patience in my reading your blogs and even posting. I had no idea moving back home and getting a puppy would absorb so much of my time. It seems like I can never sit down and knit or crochet because the puppy is grabbing the yarn and running away with it or I’m taking her outside every hour!  I know that she will soon calm down and become an older dog and that’s what keeps me going on these busy, busy days.

Blessings and love,
Betsy

  1. Looks like you are really enjoying being HOME! The pups are too cute.

We've had our windows open too. Sadly, I live on a road with lots of truck traffic so it is kind of noisy, but I AM enjoying the somewhat cooler air.

  2. The moon has been beautiful these past few nights and last night we had a glimpse of the northern lights. I immediately thought of Teresa and how she loved to take photos of the moon, she is certainly missed. Glad all is well with you, sounds like a wonderful trip.

  3. Looks like a fun trip to another city and a good show to watch, Betsy. Puppies are like little children. :-> . 🌙 moon was behind clouds when I saw it last evening on a walk with Phil. Cooler evenings and morning. Fall tomorrow. So thankful we had rain this weekend. Have a blessed week my friend.

  4. Cute pictures of the pups. They are adorable. Windows open is the best. Last night when I woke up at 3 a.m. (again), I looked out the back bedroom window (open) and could see a deer down in the yard munching on apples. I love that (not the waking part, but seeing the deer). You have reminded me that not only do I need to get a flu shot but also the shingles vaccine. I had shingles when I was in high school and I sure do not want them again!

  10. The moon has a smiley face! 😄 It was actually chilly in the apartment when I got up this morning... which is fine by me lol. I sleep hot anyway so the cooler temps make it better for me. I wanted to leave the window open all night but the wind was a-blowing from the NW at 25mph straight into the room over the bed, so 🤷🏻‍♀️ ... maybe tonight... or maybe not since it's supposed to get down to 48°! At least I was able to turn off the AC and open the only two windows we have all day! We actually have one of the windows open a few inches for fresh air nearly all year round, otherwise I become too claustrophobic and hyperventilate. The puppies' sweaters look like little mittens, they're so tiny! Zoey and Lizzie being sisters made me suddenly think of the song "Sisters" from the movie "White Christmas." 😆 I've always wanted to visit Nebraska... I have a few Mennonite/Germans from Russia ancestors buried up there (some died on the way as they were coming to Kansas in 1874). Hugs and blessings, my friend!

  13. I think it is just wonderful you have a puppy to keep you busy! No time to worry about the changes and the move, just enjoyment! What a lovely ride. We don't get the Disney channel on our cable since we bought a bigger package. I am not sure how that worked, but it sounds like a lovely show and a fun visit. We have our shots lined up for next month. We go to an area church and stick our arms out the window for the flu shot. I need to setup the appointment for the new shingles vaccines. I had shingles in my 50's and then got the old vaccine. I was waiting until my insurance would help pay for it. And I think our booster comes out next month? I need to check that too. It's like we are heading off to kindergarten with all these shots.

  14. I loved the autumn rural landscapes of NE when we went through there several years ago! Thought them very peaceful. I too am thankful for the cooler weather of autumn. I missTeresa’s posts as well. I hope her family is doing okay. Pups are cute but balls of energy for sure. Lol. Argh, shingles. I wish I had gotten the vaccine last year. I have shingles now (face) and it is miserable stuff!
    Blessings,
    Aimee
    PS: Piper has amazing smiles!

  16. The puppies are so cute and I love the little purple puppy sweater. It fits Zoey perfectly. I have had the 1st Shingrix shot and can get the 2nd Shingrix shot anytime after the last of September. Then I plan to get the flu shot. Then I suppose the Covid booster shot and I should be done with shots:)

  18. I love the picture of you and Piper in the back seat with the puppies. It's so sweet. The little sweaters are adorable. That is a big beautiful moon! We've had rain today and a cold front coming through tonight. Tomorrow's weather is supposed to be cool and beautiful...like fall! Glad you got your flu shot. I just made myself a note to remember to call the doctor tomorrow and get mine. Take care! :)

  19. You look as if you are both having lots and lots of fun together on your excursion. The puppies look so at ease with you both and lovely the comfort too;real sweetie pies LOL! I don't get the Disney channel but I am going to request "Heartland Docs" on the app I use to download films and TV series...might be lucky :-) Those pups are going to be so well dressed with those gorgeous tops. Dear Teresa I think of her often! Have fun! Amanda x

  21. Oh my!! That moon is so pretty, was it the Harvest Moon? Your dogbabies are so cute, Zoey looks so comfortable in her purple sweater. It sure will keep her warm this winter. We seldom have really cold winters in my part of Texas. I agree, the Nebraska country side is beautiful. We usually get our flu shots in October, so I guess we'll be getting that done soon. Enjoyed visiting your blog today, hope all is well in your part of the world.
