Meet Zoey!

Dennis and I are both in love. Meet Zoey, our new little 10 week old Miniature Poodle/Chihuahua mix puppy. We got her on our anniversary Wednesday instead of going out to dinner! I think it was a great trade. 😍 We said no more dogs after Chloe but we should have known that our house wouldn’t be able to stay empty very long.

I love her little floppy ears and I hope they stay that way. The brown circle around her eye is pretty cute too.

Her favorite place is all snuggled up in her blanket on my lap.

She has snuggled her 2.5 pound self right into our hearts. She sleeps in a little kennel by our bed at night and it has been dry both nights. She hasn’t even had any accidents in the house. I take her outside constantly so I’m probably the one that’s trained!

Daddy is a 5 pound poodle and mommy is an 8 pound Chihuahua. We’re hoping that she doesn’t get very big so she will be easy to take places and won’t take up much room in a trailer when we are able to start camping again.

We needed to get a dog that was hypoallergenic with some poodle in it so Piper could be around it. She is off the charts allergic to cats and is allergic to dogs but not quite as bad.

Zoey seems to be a pretty smart little puppy so we’re hoping all will continue to go well. It’s been almost 30 years since I have house broke or trained a puppy, so if anyone has any good hints just let me know.

Yarn fun is definitely taking a backseat for a while while we work on potty training. I know you will all understand. Puppy kisses are the best!

Blessings and love,
Betsy

  1. Awwwwww!!!! What a cutie! I am so happy for you! My dear departed Yorkie was named Zoey and she was such a great dog. Snuggly little lap dogs are the best. I've got Pup (aka Maggie) right here next to me now and we are both heading to Napland as soon as I hit publish.

  4. I have a little half Chihuahua half Maltese and he is the brightest most wonderful darling little doggy ever. One tip that has helped me is to tell them "Quickie" when you take them out to go to the bathroom, and of course reward them. He actually goes on command at rest stops. There is an excellent book called "51 PUPPY TRICKS by Kyra Sundance. It makes training so fun and easy!

  5. Zoey is the cutest lil thing. Her face looks like my Bounce's, we think he is half Chi and part Corgi and Rat Terrier. How smart she is not to wet her bed.

  6. Zoey will fill that empty spot in your lives that Chloe's passing left. So nice that Piper won't have any trouble with being allergic to the puppy.

  8. She looks more Chihuahua than poodle. What a cutie! Potty training = same spot and same words...lots of praise! Have fun!!! I am thrilled for you. Can you fit her inside a nice bag and carry her around...that might be helpful when you travel...I know of a gal that did that and she could take her little dog (a hairless) almost anywhere and you never knew she had a dog :)

  9. Zoey looks so cute! Enjoy! Megan saw it too. Training a dog helps, especially barking. Our back fence neighbor has a small yippy dog and it barks every time it's let outside to go potty. Wakes Megan up at times as her room is by their back lawn.
I looked for yarn in one store and it was $75 for merino wool mix. Four colors in one package. I forgot to look for some at a store we bought alot of items at in Anchorage. We enjoyed being there as it is such a beautiful state and nice people. I am almost done getting items put away. So tired when we got home mid afternoon. Had a good night's sleep! take care and hugs to you and Dennis!

Betsy I was reading your last post but had to leave the computer and didn't get back to leave a comment. Happy Anniversary. You and Dennis are such a special couple. I love wedding pictures...and yours is wonderful. Bet you and Dennis still hold hands just like in the picture. So glad you got little Zoey for your anniversary gift.

  19. Hi Zoey, you are precious!! When I was training our cocker, I read that when you take them outside, don't play and don't make eye contact with them. As soon as they do their business go back inside. You want them to learn that going outside is not play time. Of course, once trained play time will come. Good Luck...my chihauhau's were very hard to housebreak.

  20. I always train my dogs to go potty on command. I have a 6 foot x 6 foot space that is her potty place. I also have her litter box trained for winter because she doesn't like to go outside. My dog is a 3 1/2 pound buff colored toy poodle. I suggest putting a bell on the door you use to take her outside. Ring the bell and say potty time. take her out to the potty spot. She will learn very quickly to ring the bell when she needs to go outside. After she does that for several months take the bell down. She will find you or Dennis take a front paw and tap you on the leg to go outside.

  27. Hi Betsy! I wanted to let you know I found the white pumpkin at Family Dollar for only $1. It has a very nice metal leaf on the top by the stem. They only had 2 at my location (they also had an orange, green and bronze, but I was not crazy about the color tones). Good luck!
