Sunshine...for awhile

Isn’t the photo below glorious? Beautiful blue skies...for another hour or two and then a “wintry mix” is supposed to start falling. I choose to enjoy this while I can. Chloe and I went for a long walk around the airport this morning. I watched a helicopter take off and two planes practicing their touch and goes while we walked.  Then it was back home to start some laundry and catch up on blogs. It is sure nice to have running water again and not have to lug our laundry all the way across the park

This is my view right now, because don’t let that blue sky fool you. It is 18° F at the moment. Chloe and I are definitely enjoying the heat coming from that electric fireplace.

My mother-in-law told me she didn’t have any gloves or mittens. Whether that’s true or not, you know me. No one shall go without mittens if I’m around! I got some Hobby Lobby Yarn Bee yarn, just like what I used for my own mittens, made her a pair and mailed them off yesterday. They don’t quite match, but close enough.

I’ve also been working on this baby blanket for a couple of days. I am using Lion Brand Ice Cream Big Scoop yarn in the blueberry color way.  I have had this pattern for a long time and I can’t remember the name of it. I’m using an H crochet hook and really enjoying crochet right now.  This will also go into the donate pile. Sorry about the trashcan and the sink. Finding places to take pictures is difficult. I found a new doily pattern online last night that I think I’m going to try next. Most of my patterns are packed up somewhere in the depths of the storage unit so I’m going to try something new.

I thought this was funny and wanted to share with all of you.

We are set to close on the house in Omaha early next week. I spent quite a bit of time yesterday getting the utilities set up. We have a U-Haul trailer reserved for the beginning of May that we will pull back with some things from storage. We have also ordered a POD for the first part of September.  I’m getting excited as it is starting to feel that this is really happening. This is the fifth house that we’ve bought and it’s always a stressful procedure, but buying one we have not even been in before is even harder.  Well, I guess that’s not quite true. About 30 years ago or so, I walked from the front door into the kitchen with a plate of cookies and back out. That’s it! I don’t remember anything about it. We are very grateful for the photos that Mandy took for us when she walked through. And something I have also learned through our years of marriage and our moves is that you can make virtually anything a home as long as you are together and happy. We have so much work to do once we actually get in the house.  I’m trying to remember the following verse from the Bible. This has been an anxiety ridden year for all of us hasn’t it?

I hope you are all doing well and staying warm and healthy.

Blessings and love,
Betsy

  1. I think your new home adventure is exciting! I remember a blog from long ago called "House Unseen". It was a young couple with children who lived (I think in a big city in Texas or California) and paid cash for a small house in Michigan - site unseen! It was a real fixer upper but they wanted to leave their high pressure, high cost life style and start over. It was fun to read, but a good thing they were young.

This will be the next chapter in your adventure novel! I can't wait to see the pictures and how you turn your new house into your new HOME! I think you are going to love it!

  3. I'm glad you had blue skies and sunshine long enough for a brisk walk around the airport. Sun just started flooding through the window behind me! How sweet of you to make you MIL some matching mittens, they're lovely. And the baby blanket diamond pattern is very eye-catching. I'm excited for you to get that first load of your things moved into the house. Lots of good things ahead of you both and your family. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  4. Love the cartoon! It sounds like you’re making progress towards moving to Nebraska. May will be here before you know it.

  5. I will be praying for you. It is very stressful to make a long distance move. We moved our daughter to Washington about 8 years ago. They love it there and plan to stay. Our oldest daughter and her husband lived there for 8 years. We moved two times last year. The housing shortage has been hard. We did sell our little transition home on the first day tough when we found our home in the country. It will be exciting to make your new home into your home. Stay warm. We were 68 degrees today and all the snow melted. Winter is not over yet but Spring is around the corner.

  7. That cartoon is hilarious.

Yesterday I saw ice fishermen on Lake Nockamixon. I never saw ice fishers before. I'm guessing they won't be out there again this year. Warmer days are coming.

  10. I liked the cartoon you shared. Ha ha!! Glad you had some blue sky. We had some as well but it then disappeared. Cold late afternoon. When I got home from a bit of shopping at mall and drive thru to get food, the moon looked nice with a rainbow around it. Even though I wanted to eat, I grabbed my camera and took a few photos of it. I'm happy for you get a house you need in NE. Packing. Moving. We've not done that in years. Easy does it as get closer to May. Stay warm and safe my friend. 💜🍓🍰

  12. Looking at the lovely blue skies its hard to believe you are expecting snow later on. Still you did get your walk in with Chloe and she does look satisfied with that seeing her curled up so cosy in front of the fire. May is just around the corner and September really not far after that, so glad all your moving plans are going ahead well. Sweet baby blanket. Love the cartoon LOL! keep well Amanda x

  14. Daughter is stressed out about her new house too. They haven't even started building it and the mortgage people are driving her nuts. She's living in a tiny apartment now with her things all piled up in boxes. I think it's going to be a long year for her and her hubby.

  15. Aww What a joy to visit your blog today and see Chloe curled up so comfortable and warm. You have some lovely projects on the go, the blanket is a delight such a beautiful pattern. 16. Hi, YES---sunshine is NICE... After so many dreary days with ice/snow/freezing fog, etc we have had a couple of days of sunshine with it being a 'tad' warmer. BUT---rain (heavy rain) is coming back for about 5 days... (At least it's not snow/ice.)

I saw the picture you posted of the front of your new home... Can't wait to see more pictures... Glad you found a home in a very convenient location.

We are doing fine here and are not-so-patiently waiting for SPRING.... ha

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  17. Wow! I can't believe you will be closing on the house so soon. That is awesome!! I bet you make it a wonderful home and it will be just so good for you and Dennis to be by your family (or some ot if anyway). That blue sky is gorgeous and your electric fireplace looks very cozy - I would be planted in front of that knitting and stitching and napping ALL day long! LOL

  18. While I was reading your post in the background on my CD player "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" was playing. I think it goes perfectly with the verse to have here. We need to take everything to our Lord in prayer. He's always there listening and wanting to hear our praise and our prayers.
    God bless you sweet friend.

  20. Haha, I like that cartoon! Praising God that things are working out so well with your soon-to-be new home! What a blessing it will be to have some of your family closer and also right next door for Dennis' mom! I can "hear" the excitement buidling in your posts. Happy happy happy for you guys! I think sunshine is the most wonderful thing in life, especially right now when we all need our spirits lifted, plus it reminds us that God is always on His thrown. After two weeks of constant cold and clouds, I know I sure am thankful for sunshine again! Blessings to you, Betsy!!

  21. You write the sweetest, most touching posts. The mittens are so pretty. I would love to snuggle up with choloe in front of the fire. It's so warm and cozy looking there. We have had sun today too and 69.6 degrees. Isn't that amazing! I'm thankful.

  22. We got the sun too - AND temps above freezing (only just). I'm trying not to get too excited though - we still have all of March to get through.

    Love all your projects!

  23. Thanks for a good laugh with that cartoon! We've had a couple of nice walks this week; I agree it's always better when the sun is out. Today we lucked out; despite cloudy skies, it didn't rain, and we even saw some tiny irises blooming!

  24. So happy to hear your house plans are coming along! An anxiety-ridden year, yes, indeed. I'm not a pessimist, but I think 2021 will make 2020 seem like a cake walk, if the Lord doesn't intervene and see fit to stop the evil that is happening. It is all so unbelievable to see what is happening to our country and world. Maybe this will be the year Jesus will come back and take us all home. At least we can hope that is the case. If not, He will be with us and uphold us by His righteous right hand. May He bless you and your family.
