Spring!

Spring has sprung! Or as my mom used to always say “Spring has sprung, the grass has rize, I wonder where all the birdies is!”

I miss my mom. She had the best sense of humor and would be weathering these days of isolation just fine. Give her a good mystery novel and her rocking chair and she would be a very happy lady.

How are the rest of you coping? I’m finding myself very, very grateful for social media. We again watched a couple of different church services that were live streamed yesterday and enjoyed them very much but we’re missing seeing our church family too.

I put out some of my spring decorations. Here is the spring egg tree and the sweet little family of bunnies that I found at Hobby Lobby last year.  They make me smile just to look at them.

The birds have come back for the season....

Along with a little bowl of Easter eggs.

I finished another crocheted baby blanket. It will most likely go to the hospital when I am allowed to make a delivery again. I have quite a pile of blankets and baby hats ready to go.

Last night I started a new blanket. It’s called the  Bit’s and Bobs blanket and is a paid for pattern on ravelry.
You use two strands of fingering weight yarn held together. It’s supposed to have quite a pronounced ridge pattern but mine isn’t looking like that for some reason. I’m hoping as I continue on it will be a more defined rib but we’ll see.  It’s not a normal Knit one, Purl one ribbing pattern.  You actually knit into the stitch below. It’s fun, but not turning out quite like I expected it to.

And a friendly reminder for you.

We didn’t go anywhere all weekend but Dennis is back at work today.  We feel very blessed that he is still able to work when so many have lost their jobs, but it is still a worry that he has to be around other people.  They are trying very hard to abide by the 6 foot rule and he assures me he’s sanitizing everything he touches.

I had to go to the bank this morning to get something out of our safe deposit box. The branch lobbies are all closed so I had to call them on Saturday and set up an appointment for 10:00 this morning. They met me at the door and let me in and then unlocked it to let me back out again. Very, very high security. I wore gloves and used hand sanitizer and washed my hands when I got home. I also used Clorox wipes on the steering wheel, seatbelt, car door handles, etc. Now, I don’t have anywhere that I have to go in the foreseeable future. My neurologist’s office even set up a video appointment for me for next week.  Luckily, I love being home so it’s not a problem to stay here.

How are you are coping? Do you have nay new projects that you’re working on?

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10

“So not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”. Philippians 4:6

Blessings and love,
Betsy

  1. I heard on a podcast this morning that the Bits and Bobs blanket takes awhile to look like you think it should. It was today's podcast from Anna Knits. You might want to check it out.

I counted ---- 19 projects on the needles. I won't be bored. LOL

  2. That baby blanket in blue is gorgeous! What a generous person you are. I can imagine how worried you are for Alex to be going on so many planes and having to walk through so many airports. I'm sorry he's having to do that, it is scary. You and I are lucky that we aren't sad to have to stay inside. So many people are extremely social and are having a terrible time being alone in their homes. I have to admit I'm so glad Dayle is retired and we can be together. I wish Dennis could retire now so he wouldn't have to go into work during this. I love your Easter decorations. I put my little Beatrix Potter bunnies out today.. but my table is getting a little crowded.. lol. I might have to move some onto my TV cabinet. I agree, the social media is quite the wonderful treat when we can't go out and see people in real life. Hang in there, be careful and I'll keep Alex and your daughter in my good thoughts. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  3. It was odd to have worship service in my recliner, but I’m thankful my Pastor is holding online services. I get up early and go for a short walk as the sun is rising. The morning air smells like Spring and lifts my spirits. I don’t mind being home and have plenty of things to occupy my mind and hands. I, too, am grateful for blog pals and social media.

  4. Your spring egg tree is so pretty. Seeing it every day would cheer me up too. I love the little bunnies! Bunny rabbits are one of my favorite little animals. I love the idea of praying instead of singing Happy Birthday while washing our hands.

  5. After being in my room for a week, it was such a spectacular sight to note the brilliant blue of the sky, the green of the trees--I feasted my eyes!
The new blanket is going to be so squishy! You will see the rib more as the blanket grows-have faith! lol Thanks for the reminder of that old Spring rhyme!

  6. Bravo for making the beautiful blue and white baby blanket! It will be interesting to see your new blanket take shape. I have been busier than usual with email/text/calls with family and friends and because of facilitating a few groups at church. Some of our baby blanket making group members were successful in meeting online last Wednesday morning and hope to meet that way again this Wednesday morning. I visited three online services on Sunday morning. This morning a dear childhood friend encouraged me when she shared Romans 15:13 " I pray that God, the source of hope will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit." I pray the Lord encourages you as well dear Betsy. xx

  7. Cute and pretty Spring decorations Betsy! It was so cold here yesterday with snow all around (thankfully NOT right here), it's hard to remember it was 78 on Friday. Our roller coaster weather sesems to be continuing. I don't really mind being at home either. But, now I think PA is under "Shelter in Place" rule which, I think, means I can't even drive to a trail to walk!

  10. Love your cute Easter decorations! The baby blanket is so sweet. I can see the ridges on the other blanket and I think it is going to turn out just fine. Very pretty so far! I pray you and Dennis both stay healthy as your state is one of the epicenters of this virus. Please be careful! Happy Spring and I haven't heard that saying in many, many years!

  11. Your dear Mom sounds like such a dear, sweet lady. Taken from you way too soon. I do not think we will ever stop missing our precious parents and longing for them. I find that I think of Mom and Dad even more during these strange times. How I long to be able to pray with them once more! Oh, things are so odd, aren't they? SO many recent changes in our personal lives, then to add all this current stress on top of all - sometimes it feels like too much. I, too, am grateful that my dear husband can continue working through this, but it is a concern, as it is for you. We just have to trust Jesus and keep speaking Psalm 91 over our husbands, children, and ourselves and believing in His power to keep us all healthy and safe from all harm. God, help us all. Praying for you, dear friend.

  12. Pray Pray Pray... That is the answer!!!!!!

You'll have to read my Facebook Post today. I am working on Family History --and am reading about my Dad's life as a young man... After learning more about his life, I had to stop and ask myself why I was so upset about not getting to do some of the things I usually do right now-and not finding some of the items in the stores I usually get... It put life in perspective!!!! We still have SO many BLESSINGS...

Love your Easter decorations.... AND--I'm so glad your hubby is still able to work.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  13. I like all your Easter items. I need to pull mine out as well. I will add it my my to-do list I wrote today. I am home for a few weeks due to work and who knows who's got the virus going around. Asthma has been my issue this early spring and am keeping up on using what I need to keep me well. Phil is still working. I enjoy your seeing your knitted projects. I will post something mid week. I use the small Thieves spray (bottle) wipe down my steering wheel. Makes my car smell fresh. Glad I have another one.
    Virtual hugs my friend!

  14. I miss my church family. I'm gratefulmtoo for social media so we can watch church sermons and connect with people too.
I'm going to find some crochet projects to do. Maybe something babyish because I like making baby projects.

  15. Your baby blanket will certainly be appreciated. I am in a shawl mode...tried knitting today for awhile on my socks...then back to the shawl and then a nap.
I have a bunch of projects to keep me busy. It was a dreary day here today.
I hope Dennis will be okay...I know you will stay safe at home. It is such a worry.
I enjoyed seeing your birds and eggs:)

  16. I watch church services online every week. I have for about three years. I'm a Missouri synod Lutheran who lives in an area where they are too far from home to attend. So I attend a ELCA lutheran church and go into culture shock because things are so different. I watch YouTube videos of Trinity sheboygan Wisconsin each week.

  17. Staying home is nothing for us since that's what we do anyway... just us lil homebodies! We love silence and aloneness. But now I'm not busy busy busy with granddaughter's troop or other things. Jerry and I have been drawing pictures and writing encouraging notes to his mom in the nursing home... all the facilites are on lockdown. Residents have to stay in their rooms all day long and can only eat in their rooms. Alone. Jerry's dad cannot even visit her, stands at her window, blows kisses to her, and they talk on the phone. We haven't been able to see her since the beginning of the month. We leaders got the girls in the troop to start doing the same thing, write notes to residents, draw pictures, send them to any resident in any facility. It gives the girls earned service project time and helps them think about others during this time. (I'll be writing about that in my next blog post.) I love your little bunnies, birds and eggs! Blessings to you and Dennis! Stay safe and stay well!

  18. That is a cute Easter egg tree and bunnies, and that is a great idea to pray each of those 20 second hand washings. I too went to two online live stream church services on Sunday, one for my church and then one from a neighboring church. You know on my blog I am offering to send a card to anyone who asks, and you said yes, but please send me your street address. I used the email form on this blog but not sure if it worked. Have a blessed day.
