Changes

My goodness, the difference a few weeks can make! Actually the difference just a few days can make! We are pretty much isolated in our homes here in Washington. Schools are closed for six weeks, restaurants and bars, gyms, any groups of people over 50 are not allowed.  The news said that pretty much any public space is closed except grocery stores and pharmacies. I haven’t been out of the house since last Wednesday, so I really don’t know what’s happening in the outside world except what I see on the news. I do plan to get up very early tomorrow morning and go to the grocery store to pick up a few things. My thinking is that by Tuesday the grocery stores will hopefully be restocked from the craziness of the weekend and at 6:00 in the morning not too many people will be there. That’s the hope anyway.

Meanwhile, Dennis and I were able to watch a couple of church services online yesterday. One from the church that we were married in in Omaha and also one from Mandy‘s church. We miss seeing our own church family, but I am so very grateful that this is even a possibility in these days of computers and live streaming.

I have gotten a bit of crafting done over the last week.  I haven’t done much thread crochet lately, so thought I would play with that a little bit. These two doilies were the results.

The first one is about 18 inches across.

This one is about 12 inches.
I also finally finished this pair of socks that I’ve been carrying around for the last two months. All I had done on them were the cuffs and about half of one leg when I opened the bag and started started knitting on them Saturday night. I turned both heels yesterday morning and made short work of both feet.
Knit Picks Stroll fingering yarn in the “Skating Rink” hand painted color way.  I’m not sure how I feel about the fact that the socks don’t match at all from the heel turn down. I guess that part will be hidden in the shoe anyway, right? I really don’t like that big patch of navy on the left sock. It looks like someone spilled a paint can.

Dennis does still have to go into work every day and Brad‘s office in Omaha is still having them go into work too. Jamie‘s company has him working from home. As a nurse, of course Mandy is working, and I worry about her the most. Alex is in London and got sick over the weekend.  Now he and Tara are in another seven day isolation.  He was running a fever but he did not get tested for c-virus. Apparently most places in the world only test if you’re very, very sick, so I have a feeling that many more people actually have the c-virus and aren’t being tested. The numbers that are reflected are probably very low. He is feeling better this morning and we were able to chat by video and that made me feel much better to see him looking more like himself.  Of course we have no way of knowing if he had some other bug that he caught on the plane last week or what exactly it was.

Stay away from people and stay well everyone.  I am envying those of you who live in the country and can take a nice long walks outside right now.

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”  John 16:33

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”  Isaiah 41:10

Blessings,
Betsy

  1. The two doilies you made look so lovely. The second one is my fav. I love the edge on that one. You're a great crocheter.
I hope your plan to go to the grocery store real early tomorrow works out. Here too people are going crazy and buying large quantities of everything possible. Stores are hard put to restock the shelves before more panicky people come around.
We are finally enjoying some sunshine here in BC... I wouldn't be surprised if the nice weather extends to Washington as well. If so I hope you get outside for a bit and enjoy it. Get your dose of vitamin D.

  2. Oh dear, Betsy.. I bet you are so worried about your two kids! I wish your daughter didn't have to work where she'll be in the line of fire with this virus. And Alex.. oh my! I bet you are worried sick! My daughter is a SAHM so she should do okay, but both boys work in big companies so I worry about them. What a worrying time. Dayle and I decided to stay home from a FOMF board meeting today and plan to stay home for the foreseeable future. The good thing is we can take a drive in our beautiful gorge if we get cabin fever. Stay safe, my friend. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  3. We are doing the same early store run tomorrow. Daughter was just informed that a family she works with tested positive. The dad is a doctor and they all have it. Daughter is sick too but can't get tested because no one here in MD has any tests. It's a nightmare. I keep thinking I am going to wake up and it is all just a bad dream.
Your doilies are spectacular! I have a few of my great grandmother's packed away. I can't even imagine how anyone can take a hook and some string and make something so darn pretty!

  4. Lovely fine work on your doilies! Hope your grocery trip is successful. I will try to order what we need online to pick up on Thursday and then wipe down everything with disinfectant. I hope this virus panic ends soon. I am pretty calm but my husband is very anxious:(

  5. Things started getting real here today as lots of places are closing and people are self isolating for at least 15 days, myself included. I went on one last grocery run this morning - many shelves still empty and no veggies (fresh or frozen). I stopped at the bank and got some cash to have on hand - just in case. Heard on the press conference today the virus may be around through mid to late summer. Isolating now may lessen its impact and stop it sooner.

  6. Those doilies are just beautiful! Things are crazy here, too. I went to the store this morning, and lots of shelves were empty and lines to check out were kinda long. Other than that we stayed home, but we did take a walk in the neighborhood since it was such a beautifully clear and sunny day.

  8. Oh, dear friend! Those are two of my mainstay verses, also. I cling to them in these troubled times. I am surely praying for Alex and SO happy to read that he looked more like himself. What a blessing that we can keep in touch electronically and share our hearts, see our loved ones, and know how to pray for one another! May God keep us all safe and FREE from all sickness and disease. I am quoting Psalm 91 VERY often and speaking God's Word out loud. It brings SO much comfort, and the blessed Comforter Himself is with us all and in us and protecting us. All glory to Jesus for His constant care. Sending love and hugs to you today!

  9. Dear friend, I wouldn't expect the groceries to be re-stocked fully until this is passed. I will talk about this more in my podcast.
I also feel like I am shut up from the world but I know it will not be for long, in the whole scheme of things. I will be praying for you
    God's blessings and HUGS

  11. Good Morning, Yes---the 'virus' is affecting so many of us all over the world... We still have no cases in our county and only a couple near our area in East TN.... BUT--people are being cautious... Schools and events/concerts, etc. are closed/not happening... So far, we are not restricted in our homes. I think when we go shopping on Friday, we'll go REALLY early to beat the crowds... Hopefully, they can re-stock the shelves. People are being so crazy with their hoarding... SAD to me --since some people who need certain items now cannot get them... One of my son's job may be in jeopardy soon since he is a Bar Manager and the bar is in a big mall. As of now, the mall has cut back hours ---but they are still open (even though Mark says there aren't many people at the mall)....

We are all dealing with the 'unknown' here. I feel sorry for those people who work paycheck to paycheck and may not have enough money to pay bills soon... AND --what happens to those adults who still can work, but don't have anyone to watch the children (who are now out of school)?????? I worry that the grandparents (who are the most vulnerable) will now have to watch the grandchildren while the parents still work... CRAZY!

God is in control... I'm trying to stay positive and just continue to help those in need and stay as safe as possible.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  12. Isn't that the craziest thing about socks striping and pooling. I had that happen with a pair and it was red. Looked like Curt Shilling's ankle from the World Series when he bled through his socks. NOT a good look.

    Yours look GREAT!

  15. Those doilies are beautiful! You know you can order groceries online and pick them up all bagged and ready to go at Walmart or have them delivered free if over $35 but that takes 2-3 days. I think you could walk outside in your neighborhood. There's not 50 people out there are there? I walk here in a neighborhood but no one here comes out of their houses. If they do they just get in their car! LOL! I plan on ordering groceries and picking them up when the need arises. They say there are only 22 cases in AR and none near me but like you say...they aren't testing so how do they really know? I pray your son and Tara get through it alright and Mandy too! God bless our healthcare workers especially at this time.

  17. Sweet sister and friend. I wish you knew how my heart sang for joy when you wrote your comment for my last wonderful words post. Isn’t God amazing the way He sings His Word in our hearts so the tune continues to play .. curiously I’ve seen since wrote that post another message by Billy Graham’s son on for such a time, too!
Now those two doylies are lovely, I do love crotchet, I’ve still a couple of squares to do on my UFO!!
Love the socks, you’ll never see the deep blue bit and it will hide a darn better if it needs it too.
Praying for covering too of dear ones, needs met etc.
Thanks for being a blessing, and may God bless you too, especially in these troubled times, may we look up in faith! Praying you’re all kept well too!
