Sunny Days

We have had some days of sunshine, but don’t let that fool you. It’s still cold.  37 degrees today.  Yesterday  Dennis had to climb back up on the ladder because he found some birds nests in the eaves that had to come down before spring.  At least he didn’t have to get back on the roof.  He put some screening in there that will hopefully keep them from rebuilding.  As much as I love birds, I don’t like the damage they do to the roof and siding when we let them build here.

This was sunset last night off of our back deck. Mount Spokane is the highest peak that you see there. Isn’t it gorgeous?

I have been knitting exclusively on this baby blanket since last Wednesday and I’m not even half done yet. I guess that’s what happens when you make a 39 inch wide blanket using size 5 needles and baby yarn. It takes a long time.

This has been a week of bad news. Two of our friends have been diagnosed with cancer.  Dennis‘s sister is still struggling with bone cancer and pancreatic cancer. She finished her second week of radiation on Friday and it completely drained her.

On top of this, the horrible virus that is sweeping across the world has us very concerned for Alex in Japan. Tara is flying there later this week from the UK to spend some time with him and I’m worried about her flying too.  I’m trying to turn this all over to the Lord, but I am by nature, a worrier.

I’m wishing all of you a good day today, counting your blessings for the lives we have and the family and friends that love us.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.”  Jeremiah 17:7

Blessings,
Betsy

  2. The History Channel is repeating "Washington" at 5:00 pm CST. I think that would be three your time or maybe later? Who knows how they plan. Anyway, you could see the first episode then if you're not otherwise busy! Then the second episode is at 7:00 CST.

  3. I miss knitting baby blankets with the Ravelry group - such fun. Dennis may not be on the roof, but he’s nearly there! I certainly hope Alex and Tara can avoid the virus.

  4. I'm glad you're having sun.. we are too! It sure does brighten my mood, I must say. We just went to the Friends of Multnomah Falls board meeting and then had lunch there at Elmer's afterwards. They moved the meetings from 6:30 pm to 1 pm - we used to go early and have dinner before, now we have lunch after. Your blanket is amazing, some baby is going to be very lucky to have that warm cuddly "blankie"! I can sure imagine you worrying about Alex being in Asia now with that scary Coronavirus. I swear it scares me to death. 1873 people died so far. Ugh. Oh well.. let's think of something happier.. like my daffodils are almost ready to open!! By the way, I'm only thinking of painting the legs of the piano stool.. as it's painted an ugly brown.. the top I would never paint.. especially after paying for it to be stripped, sanded, a light stain and 4 coats of varnish! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  5. Thanks for sharing the stunning view of Mt. Spokane, Betsy! You are stitching another beautiful treasure and I so admire your skill and speed even if your progress seems slow to you :-) Praying you sense the Lord's comfort and protection in the midst of illness.xx

  6. Love that blanket and the photo of Mount Spokane. Yesterday we had hail along with thunder and lightning, all very unusual. And today, would you believe that we had sunshine! Thanks for sending it over here! Happy Knitting! Take care.

  8. Your view is amazing. I understand your worries about the virus. My DIL is from China and her whole community is in fear here in the DC area as many of them go to and from China regularly to see family. All the Chinese restaurants are empty as are the churches. We have a friend who works for an Asian dentist and no one is making appointments. This is a disaster on so many levels for people in that community.

  13. Yikes, those times on the ladder up so high always makes me a bit worried. Yes, that virus has been so terrible around the globe but especially China! Your mountain is so pretty! And that blanket is so beautiful! I thought of you when I received those lace placmats (smiles)

  14. Yes, I surely am so very grateful to God for all of His many blessings today. It would be easy to look around and despair because of all of the horrific news and sadness. In spite of all, we are so very blessed, indeed. Thank you for that reminder today. I am SO sorry to hear of all of the bad news you have had to deal with lately. I trust God will lay His protecting hand upon Alex and Tara and keep them from all harm. I can only imagine how much all of this worries you. I worry, too, so much. I guess we worry so much because we care so deeply. Thank God, this world is not our home, and we will one day be with Jesus where we won't have to worry anymore. God bless you, sweet friend. Sending love and hugs your way and so thankful Dennis made it safely back down from that high ladder!

  15. I'm glad you are getting some sun. We have had so much rain this winter. It didn't rain today but was very cloudy and gloomy all day. Sunshine make me feel good. February is a depressing month for me anyhow. Your sunset picture is beautiful...oh, and so is the baby blanket. It's so soft and sweet looking.

  16. We are concerned about the virus also as it would not be good for a person with respiratory problems. I am so sorry to hear of more cancer...what an ugly word...we know of several individuals struggling at this time...so sad. Your view is stunning I would get nothing done looking out the window all day long! That baby blanket is a beauty! Someone will love it!
