Back so soon

Wow!  You guys are such a great support system.  Between you and Mandy, you encouraged me to stand up for ourselves with Best Buy's Geek Squad.  So yesterday I went in, receipt in hand to ask for a refund for the $219.59 that they charged us for tech support.  Would you believe that I didn't say a word to  the young man?  He just took one look at me, must have remembered the fiasco of last week, took my receipt and refunded us the entire amount!  Not a word was said by either of us.  It was really weird.  Afterwards, I very nicely told him that friends had downloaded everything for us Sunday afternoon.  I really did say it very nicely.  He just answered VERY sarcastically, "Well good for you!"  and walked away.  It was said in the rudest tone I've heard in a long, long time.  This was the strangest and worst customer service event I've ever experienced!

Last night Alex face-timed from Japan and had me face the iPad to the laptop so he could see the screen and walked me through downloading both of our printer drivers!  They had also told us we needed to buy two new printers to replace our laser printer and ink jet scanner/printer/copier.  I am SO glad that we didn't give away the laser printer!  The Geek Squad said the the drivers weren't available for our old printers that aren't even that old.   Now I can print from both my iPad AND the new laptop.  I'm so grateful for Alex helping us with that last night.  Who would have thought he would be able to do it from his little town in northern Japan, when the Geek squad couldn't do it with the actual laptop in their hands?

Okay, done with the computer drama. (I hope.)  Like I promised, I have more knitting to show you  that took place when I was computerless.

I made two more dishcloths.  I really like this Hobby Lobby, I Love This Cotton.  It's so soft to knit with.
I also finished Dennis' socks yesterday while I was at the tire place getting my snow tires removed.  It's 63F here today!  It is supposed to cool off a little bit but I don't think we'll have enough snow to need my tires anymore.  Anyway, these socks are made with Knit Picks Stroll Fingering in the Tiger Eye Hand Painted colorway.  75% Superwash Merino/25% Nylon.  I really love Knit Picks sock yarns they are so soft and have worn well.   I did a simple k1p1 ribbed cuff and then k2p2 leg.  Dennis really likes that simple pattern as they stay up very well and don't slide down his leg in his cowboy boots.
I finished two more nine patch squares for my cozy memory quilt.
Another square has begun.  These are so fun and soothing to knit on.  It will take a long, long time to finish and that's okay with me.
I started another pair of socks, this time using the magic loop two at a time method.  However, I found it very fiddly and much prefer my dpn's.  This morning I took them off of the magic loop and put them on dpn's.  I'm using Knit Picks Stroll in Heartfelt Tonal colorway.  I was hoping to avoid the dreaded "second sock syndrome" by using the magic loop but I wasn't enjoying it at all and isn't that what we're supposed to do?  I've never not knitted the second sock of a pair anyway, so I think I'll keep to what I love.
I also crocheted two baby blankets last week from Loops and Threads Impeccable yarn.  I made all of the squares in two days and spent a day putting them together and crocheting the border.  These will go to the Crisis Nursery.
Dennis' Aunt Ev and Uncle Al were on their way home from California where they spend the winter with their daughter's family.  They live outside Minneapolis, MN and always stop for a week or so in Omaha and stay with Dennis' mom in the spring and fall for a visit.

Mandy and Piper spent some time with them yesterday and Piper taught them a matching game.  Aunt Ev used to work in the school system and has always been good with children.

Piper called me as they drove home after the visit and told me all about it.  She seemed to have lots of fun with them.  One of my earliest memories of dating Dennis was camping with Uncle Al, Aunt Ev and their families over Memorial Day weekend at Ponca State Park in the NE corner of Nebraska.  I'm glad Piper is getting to know them too.   Family is important.
I went to my knitting group this morning and had a nice visit with everyone.  Tomorrow morning I have to go to the endodontist to see what they are going to do about my tooth.  I hope it's not another root canal but I am tired of chewing on one side!  :-)

The rain is supposed to begin tomorrow for several days but that's okay.  If it's not snow, I'm happy and it will help the plants grow.  I hope you're all seeing signs of spring and renewal wherever you may be.

"Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts."  Colossians 3:16

Many blessings and love to you all,
Betsy

  2. Good to hear that you got a refund without any hassle. It sounds like the young man needs to find a different job.

The dishcloths, socks, and blocks look great. I've never liked the Magic Loop technique because it is really fiddly. I prefer to knit with two circulars instead. Nearly 50° here today: it feels good to be out without a light jacket or a shawl.

  3. Tiger Eye is the perfect name for that sock yarn. So handsome. I hope Dennis enjoys his new socks.

  4. Wasn't that weather yesterday amazing? It's back to rain today, but we have yesterday's memories, right. Here's the link for that bootie pattern: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/f310-100-angora-baby-booties. I've only ever made them with Plymouth's Angora yarn. Love that dish cloth yarn! Now that we have a nearby Hobby Lobby, I need to pay them a visit. And I am so with you on dpns! I just can't do socks on circs no matter how hard I try. Hope your dentist visit went well!

  5. I'm so glad you got a refund for the horrible way you were treated by the Geek Squad! Now - you need to call and talk to the manager and tell him exactly how it all went down. Did you get the name of that kid? I would have felt like smacking him. You inspire me on the sock knitting.. I have some yarn and the bronze DPNs.. just need to get to the point of casting on. I hope you get some nice weather.. it's raining again here.. wah! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  7. PRAISE GOD for how He worked this all out for you at Best Buy!!! Oh that is such wonderful news! I tell you the truth, I would STILL write a letter to the CEO. I honestly believe he would want to know about the horrible way you were treated and the inept, incompetent service you received. I can't imagine upper management not wanting to know about this...and if it were me, I'd go right to the top! His name is Hubert Joly, and the corporate address is: 7601 Penn Ave. S. Richfield, MN 55423. If you email press@bestbuy.com and tell them you are making a public announcement concerning the treatment you received, that will work, too. That is the email address it gives on their site for reporters who are working on a story about them. I also found this on their website: "Please address all Geek Squad concerns to: Geek Squad Best Buy Corporate Customer Care P.O. Box 9312 Minneapolis, MN 55440." Here is the link where I found this: http://forums.bestbuy.com/t5/Welcome-News-Knowledge-Base/What-is-Best-Buy-s-Corporate-Address/ta-p/803914 I am so sorry you had to go through such an ordeal, my friend. So thankful you were able to get a refund, but it is just really irks me that you were treated so rudely. I hope your dentist appointment goes well for you...praying for you and sending hugs!

  8. Yay! So glad you got your money back. Too, bad that fellow had such poor customer service skills that he was so rude to you. I think the people they hire is a direct reflection on their company. All of your projects have turned out so nicely. Wishing you a lovely day sweet friend. Blessings always

  9. I have been fascinated by your Geek Squad customer service story. So glad you got your money back, but that last rude remark would have been my breaking point and I probably would have demanded to see the manager. But, with that said, sometimes it's not worth engaging further and the added stress!

  14. I am glad that you could get the refund from Best Buy! I am thankful you introduced me to I Love This Cotton Yarn. When Hobby Lobby has a sale I try to pick up a couple skeins. I still have a lot of the Sugar 'n Cream type left I need to use up also. Piper is just a little sweetheart! Nancy

  15. I’m hoping I don’t lose this comment as my two comments from last time are not published I changed web browsers so hopefully this works.
I’m very glad you have your refund, it wa right and proper that you be fully refunded.. but in a gracious way too...
I’m actually feeling really sad for the man at Geek Squad. How he needs the LORD in his life to get to know the God of glory would set his life on right path. I pray earnestly that someone somewhere shares the word wit him, and that our gracious Father God would give him a heart hungry for peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We need to earnestly pray for such needy souls. They’re hiring over something to react that way. As our Lord said on the cross, Father forgive them for they know not what they do..
Hugs and prayers dear sweet Betsy. Such clever knitting from your gracious giving hands.

  16. Yay! I am so glad you went back. He probably was rude because he knew he was at fault and didn't know what he was doing. Sometimes I wonder what training those geeks actually do go through. But sorry he was rude at all...that always leaves me shaken when people treat me like that. Your knits are gorgeous... I have actually bought some yarn to make a knit hat, but I won't tell you where that yarn is now (stuck away where I won't feel guilty for not getting to it yet.) Gosh, I hope I feel better soon. I'm so tired of hurting. Have a blessed day!

  17. So sorry for your bad experience! I use Comodo (online) and for 1/2 what they charged you I have security and 24/7 technical support and they just logon to my computer and fix whatever might be wrong but the only time was when MS downloaded something. It's so easy, you never have to wait on the phone and they are very polite. I've had them for years now....6 or more maybe? I never get viruses either. I highly recommend them!
I love all your projects and I am amazed, as usual, at how much you get done in crafting. But I am a very slow person! LOL!
SO cute to see Piper with her Great Aunt and Uncle or would that be great great Aunt and Uncle? I've never met a person from MN that I didn't like....good people in that state! I love the midwest best for sure. Although I have found great people everywhere I've ever traveled but that it my home territory. You were warmer than us! Today is supposed to get to about 70 so I'll be working outside and tomorrow it's supposed to storm. I love a good storm as long as we don't lose power! LOL! TTYL! Hugs ~ Sam
