Snow!

Happy November!  We have snow!  I did take a photo of it but for some reason it's not uploading.  Suffice it to say, we were NOT supposed to get snow today, only rain.  This girl isn't a happy camper because you all know how I feel about snow.  The weather people had a group session on the news a few nights ago.  They informed us that we're most likely in for a repeat of last year.  Snow and cold without any breaks to thaw out.  I'm sure hoping they're all wrong.

I've been working on my baby blanket just a little tiny bit.  Mainly for a few hours last night.
Because I've been knitting on the test knit for Taci at TaciStudio.  I finished it yesterday morning and it's blocking now, although I still can't show it too you completed because the pattern hasn't been published yet.  Here's a sneak peak.

Now I'm going to have to get going on some Christmas knitting so I won't be showing much on here.  I have a few ideas but only one started.  One lonely row.  It's the mystery knit I told you about before.  I had quite a bit done on it when I set it aside to work on the test knit.  Somehow in my knitting bag, my row counter got bumped and the rows were way off.  I could not figure out where I was so I ripped the entire thing out and started one little row last night.  Today I hope to do a bit more.

Piper decided at the last minute to treat or treat as Elsa because it snowed at their house on Halloween just before they went trick or treating.  She thought Elsa would be appropriate.  :-)  Brad is dressed as Brad. :-)  Their tradition is to get a Papa Murphy's Jack o 'Lantern pizza on Halloween.  Both Piper and Polly look pretty pleased about that decision.
And off they went.  You can sure tell it was cold there.
Poor Mandy has been REALLY,  REALLY sick all week with Influenza A.  She tested positive and has been put on Tamiflu.  She's still very sick but thinks she's a little better today.  Last week at work she had patients who tested positive so I'm pretty sure that's where she got it.  And yes, she did have her flu shot.  Piper has spent the last two nights at Brad's parents house, trying to keep her away from it.

I went to Weight Watchers and had gained .2 lbs. yesterday, so what did I do?  I came home and baked banana bread!  What is wrong with that picture?  Ha! Here it is in the mixer just before adding the nuts.  This was my Grandmother's recipe. I still have it on the card I wrote it on when I was about 10 years old.  I never met my Mom's mom.  She passed away when my Mom was only 14.  Then my Mom died when I was only 29.  I miss her still and even today will forget and pick up the phone to call her.  She's been gone 28 years.  I can hardly believe it.  We lost my Dad shortly afterwards.  It was really a traumatic time in my life.  Whoa!  Where did that all come from.  On with the banana bread.  :-)
Oh yum!  One loaf was eaten last night at Bible study.  I think I'm going to take the other loaf to our new neighbors this afternoon.  Get it out of the house!
Last night I was driving home from dinner and saw the moon.  This picture isn't the best because
I took it out of the windshield.  The clouds were flying across the sky and the moon was huge and bright.  It really looked a bit spooky.  It would have been appropriate a few days earlier!
I had my mammogram and bone density scan earlier today.  I'm SO glad to have that done for another year.  They are never fun, but with the pacemaker it really is pretty painful.  The top plate squishes down right on top of the pacemaker.  Ouch!  Oh well, I'm done and I'm glad.  Ladies, make sure you take care of yourself and get those scans done.  That's my public service announcement for the day. :-)

I have laundry going and I'm going to watch some knitting podcasts and fold and iron clothes.  Tonight we're supposed to drive to Deer Park, WA and take my cousin and his wife out for dinner.  They are north of us by only about 20 miles, but they got several inches of snow last night.  I'm hoping for clear roads for the drive.  It's always good to get together with Jack and Barbara but we don't do it very often.  Life gets so busy.

Dennis' biopsy reports came back and everything was negative.  Wonderful news!  He has to repeat the endoscopy in two years but right now all is clear.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the prayers and well wishes.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend my friends.

"Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:105

Blessings always,
Betsy

  1. Saw many posts today about snow in different places. Still warm temps here during the day. A friend's son is really suffering with influenza and none of the medications seem to be working. She's spent a lot of time at the clinic waiting to see doctors. I don't think .2 can be considered a weight gain by any means. Our weight fluctuates depending on what we've eaten or how much fluid we might be retaining. That pumpkin cake I made is long gone. My husband definitely enjoyed it more than I expected. :) Have a good weekend.

  2. I must say that banana bread looks delish! I look forward to seeing what knitting you tested for Taci. So sorry to hear your daughter is so ill with that flu.. quite scary. I hope Piper stays clear of getting it. She looked very cute with the pizza and all bundled up to go trick-or-treating with her dad. Have a good weekend! I'll be crocheting on a hat for Dayle. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  3. Oh that pizza looks good! We have a Papa Murphy's here but we haven't been there yet. I'm looking forward to our first snow of the season. Praise God Dennis' results were negative and mammograms are literally a pain. I watched a sketch where Carol Burnette described mammogram as a procedure where they turn a cup into a napkin. Didn't understand what she met until I had my first.
Well have a blessed weekend my friend!

  4. SNOW!!!! I love snow but that's because we hardly ever see it here anymore. It's always a big celebration when it comes and everyone stays home and watches the news reports like it's some national tragedy. Your banana bread looks delish. I am a big fan of it but I just tossed the last of mine because I am sugared out at the moment. Between now and Thanksgiving I am going to try to detox myself a bit. Squeezing into my winter jeans did not go so well. Of course it's almost 80 degrees here today!!!!

  5. Lovely moon photo! It was pretty last night too. It's been chilly and really cold weather appearing in a few days here too. Nice knit work you're doing. Piper is so cute! I was out and about today, mostly returning items I shouldn't have bought, and one pr of pants that don't really work for me...which is so annoying! Bought some curtains for our dining room. I'm glad your tests are done and Dennis' test came back negative. Megan has a job interview on Tues and we hope she gets it. She needs money to keep her going! I love banana bread and have made pumpkin banana bread which is delicious! It's from PW web site! Happy stitching and be safe outside....if you wander that far! Hugs and blessings, my dear friend!

  6. Snow...maybe most of it will stay on Mt. Spokane and not make it to you...I just finished reading about Jesus' miracles for the Beth Moore class I am taking on "Believing God," so I am full of faith! So glad you had your tests and that Dennis is ok and I pray that Mandy heals rapidly and that the rest of the family stays healthy. Your mysterious knitting projects are keeping me guessing :) xx

  7. The banana bread looks amazing, Betsy, special indeed esp as waz grandma's recipe, you're right too, we do need to take care of ourselves. Praying all your results are good, had my bone density done last week, I'm still sadly osteoporotic, but praise God it is stable, no worse, now I'm aiming to improve a little more,God willing. One step at a time, that's why I walk a lot.
Well must fly, knitting fascinating, cute little Piper too and love moon shots... sorry re snow, let's pray their predictions are wrong, eh??

  8. Oh, how I praise God and rejoice with you that Dennis's test results were negative! That is just wonderful news!!! I am so sorry your tests were so painful for you, dear friend. I do trust God will speedily heal Mandy, bless her heart. And hope your winter predictions are inaccurate! So nice to visit with you this morning. God bless you...praying for you often.

  9. SNOW? I love snow --and they say we 'may' get some this winter... We used to get snow here but the past 4-5 years, we've gotten almost none... Think I need to move in with you all!!!!! ha

Piper is adorable and she looks like her Daddy... Sorry her Mom has been so sick. Working with sick people is HARD... When I taught school, I caught everything coming and going that first year or two....

Losing weight is HARD --especially as we get older... I used to be able to diet and lose easily --but no more!!!!! Guess I'll just have a piece of your banana bread. YUM.

    Have a wonderful weekend.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  11. Oh, no, not snow already. We have gotten rain today and dreary. Glad to hear the good news for Dennis. Sure hope Piper does not get that flu! Banana bread looks delicious but my downfall is ice cream! Still working on the fold over pot holders! Enjoy your Sunday! Nancy

  12. Loved reading this newsy post! Oooh, your loaves of banana bread look fabulous. I haven't made a loaf in ages. . .perhaps, I will soon.

  13. What cute makes you're working on. Love the banana bread....you've been cooking up a storm and thank you for the recipe in the last post. I will be making those for sure! Piper looks cute in her costume and what a great idea for Halloween 'pizza'. I hope Mandy is on the mend and glad you and Dennis's tests all came back fine. I don't have many tests anymore. It seems they're always pushing for tests and more meds....I'm done! My theory at my age is "don't ask a question you don't want the answer to". I'm getting nigh on to 70 so I don't fret about any of that because if I did get something I would probably not do anything about it...quality rather than quantity for me. But you guys are still young! I feel young and that's what counts. Best of health to all of us! Loved the Halloween pumpkins your other grands cut out....they did do a great job and what a darling family they are. I wish they lived next to me...I would spoil those 2 boys for sure!

  15. Piper is adorable and frankly would look cute going out in a paper bag for Halloween. Good news about Dennis, so glad you are both doing well with all of your tests. Have a great week Betsy. By the way I miss Taci.

  16. So happy for the good news for Dennis. The banana bread looks good. I certainly don't envy your snow. The older I get, the less I like it. I'm not looking forward to my mammogram this year. I've never been bothered by them but with the pacemaker now, I imagined it would be painful. Now I know what to expect.
    Hugs

  17. Dear Betsy! So thankful for the good news and report for Dennis! Your banana bread looks so wonderful, I think I gained a pound or two just looking at it, lol! I hope Mandy gets better soon, so miserable having the flu! I'm sorry about the painful mammogram! I'm not quite old enough yet to have one, but I dread the day when I do! Many hugs to you today dear friend!
