Still Brrrrr!

Hello Everyone.  It's a snowy winter wonderland outside right now.  This is a photo I took earlier in the week.  The next day I took an identical one!  It seems to snow almost non-stop right now.  We have flurries today.  A best guess is about 4 to 4 1/2 foot of snow in our yard right now.  Next week is supposed to actually be above freezing for the first time in I don't know how long, so hopefully some of this will melt.
A picture of our little Princess Piper yesterday.  She asked for a princess nightgown for Christmas and her other Papa and Grandma did a great job finding this one!
And how do you like this one?  Her Doc McStuffins outfit, lamby hat and sunglasses!  That's my girl!
Here's the finished scarf I made Dennis.  I asked him to model it and this is what he did silly man, but you can see the stitch pattern very well this way!
And I took this one just before he flew off to Vancouver, BC for work a few days ago.  He really likes it.
I've been having fun knitting socks.
I really enjoy doing two at a time, but I do still like my dpn's best of all.  I've tried magic loop.  I've tried the 9 inch circular needles but always come back to dpn's.  It's fun to do them at the same time.  Two cuffs, two legs, two heels, then two feet and two toes.  No second sock syndrome that way.  Since this photo I have one foot almost done.  See my cute project bag from Kris?  I love it!  Thank you again Kris.
I've also been making "magic balls" of sock yarn using the magic knot method.  Not sure what I'm going to make with them but have some ideas.  And I've been watching knitting podcasts as usual.
I've had lots of time to work on these projects because while Dennis was in Canada the snow plows came through and plowed me in. AGAIN.  Three foot berms of ice and snow.  I got about half of it cleaned up and down I went on the ice.  I messed my back up and have been sitting on ice packs ever since.  That was Wednesday and I still hurt.  So this will be short and sweet because I can't sit in the desk chair long at all.

I told one friend what happened and next time I looked out the window, two couples from church were out there doing this.   I feel really, really bad because they are all older than I am.  It's so nice and clear.  I called them my snow elves.  I don't think they would have even told me they did it but I happed to look out the window and see.  Wonderfully nice people.
So, I'm trying very hard not to be upset about this...on top of everything else.  I had just told Dennis before he left that I had had 6 days of feeling good so he wouldn't worry about me. Now I'm stuck again.  I can't drive because I can't move quick enough if I had to with my feet from the gas to the brake.  Oh well.  Have I ever said how much I detest snow and ice?  I do.

Some of you have asked the name of the yarn I used for my mittens since it's non-pilling, but I haven't been able to go to Hobby Lobby to check and I threw the labels out.  I promise that when I can walk again without pain I will do that for you.  Please forgive the time it's taking me.

And now, I'm going to cut this short and get back to my ice pack. :-)  Thank you all for being there for me.  I so appreciate it.  And yes, Dennis got back late last night so I'm not alone now.  It's amazing how much better it is when he's home and I'm not alone in this big house.

"Peace I leave with you. My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27

Blessings my friend,
Betsy

  1. Betsy,
I love your knitting projects. Everything came out so cute! I've starting crocheting baby booties for a baby shower at church next weekend. We are forecast for snow so if the snow is really bad, the shower might get delayed.
    Do you crochet too?

  2. I know all about falling on the ice. I am an expert on it. It gives you quite a jolt doesn't it? Feel better. I've got my fingers crossed for an early spring.

  3. I usually knit two socks at the same time, but on two circulars per sock. Love the Magic Yarn balls you've made. I'm curious to see what you're going to make with them.

Sorry to hear about your fall, and glad to hear that someone came to clear the driveway for you.

  5. Dennis makes a great model in both poses with your beautifully knit scarf...happy handsome man! I am so glad he is home again. Miss Piper is a good model as well :) It will be fun to see what you make with your sock yarn. Be well and please ask for help...gift others by allowing them the pleasure of serving you as you so often enjoy serving others. xx

  6. Dennis made me smile modelling your beautifully knitted scarf. How wonderful to have friends clear your drive and paths for you. So sorry to hear about your fall, know that you will be in my prayers for a speedy recovery. Take care.

  7. Oh Betsy I am so sorry to hear about your back. After 48 hours you need to do ice, heat, ice, for 20 minutes each. It helps reduce the swelling and helps the blood to flow better for quicker healing. Sorry the therapist in me is coming out again. Rest and do not feel bad. You have had issues lately that make it harder for you to do these things. You help so many others all the time, let someone help you.

  8. I had to snicker where Dennis was modeling his scarf! Looks like something Phil would do! It's his snowpocalypse scarf! Yarn balls are nice. I had a horrible time winding alpaca wool blend yarn. Took me forever! Not sure what happened there. Praying you feel better soon. Gentle hugs my dear friend. Looking forward to warmer temps too as it's been freezing all week. Most of our snow in town is gone.

  10. Oh sweet friend, I am so, so sorry you are hurting. I have you in my prayers. I am thankful that your husband is back now with you. Oh don't worry about that yarn, it's more important that you get better than anything else. Aww little Miss Piper is so adorable. She is growing so tall. Love your socks and the scarf you made looks warm and lovely. Please take it easy and I pray you get to feeling better soon sweet friend. ((hugs)) and Blessings to you always.

  11. Get yourself some Yak Tracs.....you put them on your shoes and they grip the ice. I have then on the ready always but I would put them on an old pair of boots or shoes as they are hard to get on and off....for me anyway, so I leave them on an old pair of shoes.
Dennis's scarf came out beautiful! He looks "spiffy" in it! I love the Doc McStuffin's in the car seat. My grandson Grayson loves Doc too. I was doing the "concurrent" socks but Miss Peeps chewed on one of the cables and now I'm down to one cable so I need to order about 3 or more as I have socks galore on my "to knit list"! Have a nice weekend with your husband and love those snow pictures! Beautiful!

  12. Dear Betsy! I am SO sorry you fell! Oh, bless your dear heart. I just hate to hear this. And just when you were starting to feel some better. I pray this is only a very short setback, and you will gain ground to where you were before you fell and go beyond that towards being well. I am praying for you RIGHT NOW and believing God to heal you, dear friend. Will keep praying. You are SO faithful to pray for us, and we could never express how very much it means. God bless you!

  17. Hello Betsy, so happy to meet you today! I see that you are in Spokane, and I up in north Idaho, not too far from you! It has been quite the doozy of a winter! Lots of snow and very cold temps! We have seen -18 here at the house, it has certainly stayed very cold. I'm soo sorry to hear about your fall on the ice, and now having to sit on ice, oh how awful! Bless your heart. I hope you get to feeling better. Your knitting talents are amazing! Love the new scarf you made for your husband, and your precious granddaughter is so precious! Do stay warm, and I hope to get to know you better in the days to come :)

  18. Betsy, Betsy, Betsy ... I already commented on Instagram. But I'm telling you again, don't be running around outside when there's ice and snow. Let others help you. And listen to Meredith. You need to get some heat on that back. If ice was gonna help, then you could just go lay out in the front yard every hour. Ha-ha! :) Anyways, I'm glad Dennis is back and that you have kind neighbors who lend a hand. That Piper is such a cutie and getting so big. Even with a bad back, you manage to create so many beautiful things. Take care!

  21. Love your verse today! I chose for my words this year "Fear not" so that scripture is especially dear to me. So sorry to hear you are laid up again. I know you must be past frustrated with all you've been through snd I pray that you'll soon be up and around again. Love the scarf you made your hubby and it's always good to see Piper pix😄 I hear you on the ice and snow, I do love snow but am now more then ready for spring to start! On a positive note, our daphne and huckleberry has buds on it - and the sun is setting later each day. I am hoping that soon I will see more signs that spring is coming---and hoping you will see signs of spring up there too.
    Blessings,
    Aimee

  22. Hi Betsy,
I really do feel for you, beset upon every side.
The Lord does this sometimes, however it's His holy end in view, He is the Master Weaver. Look at the patterns you knit, like a tapestry it is so much clearer and beautiful the right side up, but we see the underside now of the pattern He has planned.
The poem is in on this post here, and think this post might help you:
    https://calligraphycards-shazinoz.blogspot.com.au/2012/06/why-does-god-let-sad-things-happen.html

Remember this .... as you knit your beautiful scarves socks and mittens "Little is much, when God is in it". You may only be able to do little because of your ailments but it is much with God in it. Prayer is the greatest of all ministries you know, and my we don't need an able body for it. (Praying for healing from your nasty fall, and Gid bless those kind folks who cleared it for you).

And dear sis I often sing this song in my low and lonely times, it does lift my heart and dry my tears... "NO, never alone, no never alone He promised never to leave me, never to leave me alone."
