Here it is, 10:45 at night and I'm writing a post! I think I should be in bed, but here I am, unable to sleep for some reason. I wanted to take a picture of our beautiful tree in the front yard, but I procrastinated a day or so too long to take a picture and about 1/2 of the leaves are gone already. We've had some beautifully warm days this week though and I've been enjoying them by taking lots of walks with Chloe around the neighborhood. I've had doctor and physical therapy appointments every day so it didn't work out to spend the week at the lake like I had hoped. I did, however, do a bit of fall decorating. Lori gave me several mini pumpkins that she grew in the big garden at the lake. Since we've had such warm weather, I didn't want them to spoil, so I looked up directions on preserving them as long as possible. So far, so good. You soak them for 10 minutes in 2 tablespoons of bleach to a gallon of water. Then, with a soft brush you clean any dirt or spores of any kind off. After drying them for several hours you spray them with with polyurethane clear coating.
It makes them very shiny. I kind of like them.
I love my vintage cabinet and the display area it provides me.
A bigger pumkin by the front door.
Hiding in the orchid is a tiny 2 inch pumpkin. and my little Thankgiving ornaments. Yes, I know it's early for Thanksgiving, but if I don't put them out now, I'll forget them. :-)
It seems like I've already posted these pictures but I can't find them on my blog. Forgive me if I have. Maybe it's a deja vue moment! I really like my little white ceramic pumpkin.
The leaf banner on the kitchen island.
A closer picture of the island decorations. I had fun making the leaf garland.
This week I've also been having fun making Maybelle circles for the first time and then I found the pattern to make the circles into square! So pretty!
Then I decided to make some scarves with those squares!
Please forgive the shadows. I just took all of these pictures in my dark house at 10:15 tonight. I am such a horrible photographer, but you get the idea.
My back is doing a bit better. The physical therapist has been adding new exercises for me to do at home each time I go see him. I love, love, love the heat therapy they do every time I go. Not so much the manipulaton of my spine he does though. But I am seeing...and feeling improvement. I also had a bone density scan done yesterday as part of my physical. I guess they do them every 5 years once you reach 50. They called today with the results of all the blood work and the bone scan. Everything is great!!! Finally. Some good news.
Dennis also had his annual physical and is good too, except for the last five years his blood work comes back as pre-diabetes. He's not a bit overweight and eats pretty well so I'm not sure what else we can do. I think a lot of it is genetic as his Mom and sister are both insulin dependent diabetics.
Tomorrow I have NO appointments so I'm heading to the lake for one last weekend. I think next weekend we'll be closing up for the season. At least that's the plan for now. ***Big Sigh***
As always, thank you for all of your kind wishes and comments on my blog. I appreciate each and every one of you. What a wonderful group of friends this blog has brought into my life.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy every minute of every day.
"For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations." Psalm 100:5

Hi Betsy! I'm up late, too :) Still getting better from my cold...I ran some errands today, and then felt poorly by the time I got home so need to rest a bit more, I guess. I've never heard of preserving pumpkins as you described, but they do look pretty; and I especially admire your leaf garland. Your new scarves are cheery. I am glad that most of your health news is good news for you and Dennis. I hope you have a wonderful weekend at the lake and enjoy every minute. Blessings to you and yours. xx
ReplyDeleteI love your autumn decorations!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time at the lake.
Blessings~
I love your vintage cabinet, what a beautiful piece of furniture. I am enthralled by your beautiful Autumn décor it looks so pretty. Hope you have a great time at the lake. Such good news that your health seems to be improving, long may that last.
ReplyDeleteHi Friend, Sorry I have been absent from the blogging world lately... I wish you would set up your blog so that I could get your posts via email. I always see them --but don't always see those who haven't set up the "Follow by Email" gadget on their blogs... SO--I've missed a bunch of yours... Sorry....
ReplyDeleteWhat is going on with your health? Your back? I'm so sorry to hear this.. Glad some of your other tests have come back with good results.... We have our annual physicals again in Feb/March...
Love your Fall decorations. Those tiny pumpkins are SO cute --and I love the shiny look. I haven't thought about decorating for Fall yet... Need to do it now that it's October... ha
Hugs,
Betsy
I adore your kitchen queen.. I wish mine was more accessible.. it's in the front entry hall which is around the corner and always dark. It does make a perfect decorating spot for you! Love all your punkins around and also your flower scarves. Have fun on your last lake weekend. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteGood that you are feeling better. I like your leaf garland. I don't have much decor for fall right now. Alot of leaves on the ground that decorate our doorstep. Does that count? I should get some mini pumpkins soon. Didn't see them too late at Trader Joes and I was in a hurry today. Have a blessed weekend and enjoy the fall days that are a bit cooler, especially at night! Hugs and prayers my friend!!!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your pumpkins Betsy. Very festive. I also am coming back with pre-diabetes in my blood-work. I am very careful about what I eat, and I am also thin, but I have been hypoglycemic since I was 12 so it is a matter of time until I switch over. Not fun at all, I am trying very hard to eat more protein which is not easy for me. Enjoy your weekend at the lake, I bet the leaves are gorgeous.

Hi Betsy, I hope you're having a nice time at the lake. Your fall decorations are very pretty. I just bought some mini pumpkins and gourds this morning and made a little arrangement on a plate for my dining room table. I'd never heard of this preservation method before and it sounds really handy. Thank you for sharing. I love your Maybelle blanket so far. I've made a few Maybelle flowers and squares and I thought they were really fun. I'd like to make a blanket with them someday. I hope you're having a good weekend, take care and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are doing better and having some nice walking weather. Still very hot here and we had several days of very high humidity which was suffocating. We didn't have a dust storm. The car I posted is probably abandoned and someone just decided to spruce it up with a drawing. :) Love the squares that you are making. They make lovely scarves. As long as your husband is feeling fine, I wouldn't worry about what the test results say. Everyone is different. I don't believe all those numbers they put out there anyways. The big thing is to stay away from processed sweets and sugar. I love all your birdies surrounding that one little pumpkin. Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteI love your leaf garland and the crocheted scarves. I was just remembering at the weekend when I had to go for physiotherapy on my back. It session was finished with a heat pad on my back and it was great. I would love to be able to get one of those heat pads as my back is sore again now! I'm making do with a hot water bottle.
ReplyDeletewonder if that pumpkin treatment would work for displaying them outdoors! Love your white Hoosier cabinet (or is it a Sellers?)
