A New Years Start

Hello Everyone. A short post today because I don't have a lot. I did finish this baby blanket on New Years Eve. It's for a couple at church who are having their first baby. The shower is Sunday after church, but we're supposed to have ice and snow tomorrow and Sunday morning, so I don't know how many will be there.

I also started another Portage Sweater as a gift for someone who might be reading this, so I'm not saying who. It's made with the same yarn that I used for Piper's last sweater, but it's my favorite pattern. It has BIG pockets and I love them. I just started it New Years Day and have divided for the sleeves so there is a lot to go yet.

Since I don't have a lot of other fun things, I thought I would show you my view right now. My orchid is blooming again in front of the window. It likes the east facing window.
When I took Christmas decor down, I replaced it with my snowmen collection. I think I'll leave it up until Valentine's day.

On the mantel is a swedish ivy plant, bamboo that Alex gave me 22 years ago, a Christmas cactus I bought on clearance last week and repotted and a philodendron I got from a slip from Mandy a long time ago. The two snowpeople I found at Goodwill two years ago. I think they were $3.00 for the set. And the Thomas Kincaide print is one that the kids and Dennis gave me for Mother's day when they all still lived at home. A long time ago. It's not the usual ones you buy, but it's a numbered collectors edition from an art gallery. But far from an original! We saw one of those on Maui a few years ago. It was half the size and over $80,000! Whoo-ee. Not in our budget at all. But this one is special to me because the kids knew how much I love his work.

This morning I went to the cardiologist and had my pacemaker interrogated and a chest xray and an exam. It was all for getting the all clear for an MRI on Monday for my back. I sure hope it shows what's wrong and that it can be fixed. I would like to do some hiking & biking this year and I haven't been able to do that for a long time. If they can take care of my back and I can do some exercising before spring, there's a possibility that can happen. But as the scripture says, God fills me with joy and peace, because no matter what happens, He knows what is best for me.

I hope you're all enjoying a few slow days to begin the new year without a lot of responsibilities and rushing about. I''ll be back soon.

Blessings and love,
Betsy

GRACE GREATER THAN MY SIN
By Julia H. Johnston

  1. Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
    Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
    Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured,
    There where the blood of the Lamb was spilled.
    • Refrain:
      Grace, grace, God’s grace,
      Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
      Grace, grace, God’s grace,
      Grace that is greater than all our sin!
  2. Sin and despair, like the sea waves cold,
    Threaten the soul with infinite loss;
    Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold,
    Points to the refuge, the mighty cross.
  3. Dark is the stain that we cannot hide;
    What can we do to wash it away?
    Look! There is flowing a crimson tide,
    Brighter than snow you may be today.
  4. Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace,
    Freely bestowed on all who believe!
    You that are longing to see His face,
    Will you this moment His grace receive?

  1. Wow! Betsy, I get to be your first comment. Love your decor and the mantel is lovely with the snowmen and plants. I love the burlap and black checked garland.
    You and your wonderful handiwork with yarn!! Love the blanket, and the sweater will be beautiful. I'm taking this year a little slower. More reading and meditating and less busy-ness. I love the hymns you post...I always sing them when I see them on your blog!!

    2. The name of the blanket is Baby Diamonds Blanket and is a free pattern on Ravelry. I should have said that in the post. Thanks for your comment.
      Blessings,
      Betsy

  2. I love that hymn you posted. The blanket is lovely and I'm sure your recipient of the sweater will love it. I'm crocheted a hat that originally was for my oldest daughter but its looking very wonky so I will just finish it and put it with my failed projects pile.

  3. All your lush greenery makes me happy. I miss having houseplants but my rescue kitties eat them.
    Your projects are lovely. Stay safe in this winter blast that’s about to hit us all this weekend. I’m reading a historical fiction novel that takes place in the deadly Omaha blizzard of 1860. Brrrr…..

  4. The garland is very nice! I am still looking for a plant to put in my new planter pot. I inherited a Thanksgiving cactus from my Mom. I sure hope your medical check up's are good news. I too am restricted on exercise and it is driving me nuts. Prayers going up! Love the handiwork too.

  5. The baby blanket is so sweet. I'm sure it will get PLENTY of use once the new baby is here.

    Hope the snow/ice isn't too bad. We should be getting parts of that storm on Monday. Yayyyyyyy......I have jury duty on Tuesday. Driving up to Doylestown should be fun. (NOT!)

  7. Your mantel looks great, love your plants. Hope all goes well with your checkup so you're able to have the MRI. Seems everything we do is a process anymore. Mr D also has a pacemaker and his next appointment is in April. The lady that did my hair had orchids in her shop and they were gorgeous. I can't get them grow at my house, I guess I don't have a green thumb. lol

  9. Nice items you have. I like Thomas Kincade painting. I have those on the checks I bought last year. Cozy looking sweater. I hope your back feels better soon. My back hurt a bit on Friday when I was driving home from shopping in Salem. Cold weather's no fun. I'll do a bit of exercise that will help. Happy New Year to you and Dennis, ❤️ Becky

  11. Sweet little blanket. And looks like you've made great progress on the sweater. Hope your back can be sorted out. I'm just remembering my husband joined the club to walk in the pool for his back that he wrenched while I was in the states Feb/March last year, and he hasn't been in months, when he used to be so diligent. Wonder if he even remembers that he is supposed to be going. ???? :/ You said in your comment on my blog that you would be 69 on February 1st, is that right? For some reason I was thinking you were maybe 4 or 5 years older than me. As for my blogging and walking, my plan is for every day of this year. Lofty goals for sure. Can I do it? Only time will tell. Take care.

  12. Your orchid is blooming!! I keep hoping mine will liven up after taking a long rest.
    Betsy, your lovely Christmas card finally arrived. How surprised I was to receive it!!!
    The reason it only arrived now is that our postal workers were on strike all December so there's a large pile of mail still to be sorted and delivered. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.
