Tiny Needle Tuesday

I actually have something to share for tiny needle Tuesday. I’m working, working away on the baby sampler. Our baby’s due date has come and passed. She was due on March 20. Every time my phone dings, I expect to be getting a message saying that we’re having a baby! I have until we fly away on April 26 to get this project finished and framed.

Mr. Monkey is taking shape now.  Then ALL I have left is some small details like birds and eyes, all of the outlining, which is a lot the border around the entire piece, and the center square where the name, birthdate and weight will go. So I guess I have quite a bit left to do.😍 I have been enjoying it though. Sorry about the darkness of the picture. It’s been raining like crazy here for the last day and a half and it’s very dark everywhere.

Piper and Lizzie spent the weekend with us. It’s been a while since Piper has been able to spend the night on Friday nights because she has tennis lessons on Saturday morning. This Saturday Papa got to take her and watch her play tennis. He says she’s pretty good! It was such a beautiful weekend. We took the puppies on a long walk around the cemetery as you can see. Piper loves to walk there too. It was very windy though. Just look at Piper‘s hair blowing.

I promise I won’t constantly post photos of gravestones, but look at how old some of these are.

And then, something we found interesting were these next two that are from the same time period. But these headstones are obviously much, much newer. Our guess is that family replaced older stones with these newer ones recently.

We spent a lot of time on Saturday and after church on Sunday playing cornhole in the backyard. It was pretty even on who came out as the ultimate winner. Piper is pretty good at playing it! We watched some movies together and went shopping with great-grandma. Mom isn’t able to walk very far, but we were able to get a few things that she had been looking for.

It sounds like Mandy and Brad had a good weekend together which was great. It sounds like it was a win/win for all of us since we had a wonderful time with our girls. We’re hoping to get them to do that once a month or so because then we could have our girls more often!

Not much else exciting is happening here. Dennis has 3 1/2 days left to work. This Friday is his last day before retirement. We had planned so many things for this year, but like everyone else we’re waiting to see what happens with fuel prices.

My heart is constantly breaking for the people in the Ukraine and what is happening to their beautiful country. It’s hard to believe what has been done to those people and their cities in just a few weeks. Someone has got to do something. I honestly don’t understand. I am very, very disappointed in our government for not doing more to help these people who are being mass murdered. This could very easily be us or anyone else in the world.

I know many of you have severe illnesses and other tragedies happening in your lives right now too. I am praying for each one of you. Our God is a wonderful God and I know that He cares.

May God be with each one of you in the coming days.

Blessings and love,
Betsy

  4. I must have a macabre side because I enjoy browsing in old cemeteries. I figure out how old people were when they died and I watch for markers for young children.
I have never heard of the game cornhole so I googled it and it sounds like family fun!!
Your needlepoint is coming along so well. It's exciting to think that the baby could be coming any minute now!!

WHAT A TRAGEDY IN UKRAINE, IT SEEMS UNBELIEVABLE THAT SO MANY DAYS HAVE PASSED AND EVERYTHING IS STILL THE SAME, SO MANY INNOCENT DEATHS, SO MUCH DESTRUCTION, HOW WILL THEY RETURN TO THEIR HOMES? HOW WILL THEY START ALL OVER AGAIN? MY GOD HOW SAD. I THINK WE ARE AT THE GATES OF SOMETHING BIG, CHRIST IS COMING SOON¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  7. I am in awe of how much you got done! That's just amazing. I really struggle with the filling in part. My brain turns to mush after just a few minutes.

  8. I love walking in old cemeteries. A nearby library in a larger city used to have cemetery walks with a theme, like Famous Industrialists, or Educators, or even Law and Order - criminals and law enforcement. I went to the Industrialist walk and what struck me was the wives. The first wife would pass, maybe during or after pregnancy, and leave small children. There was no childcare so the husband would marry quickly and start the second family. Often he would lose the second wife in the same way and marry a third time. Often the second or third wife would be a sister of the previous wife so that a family member would be raising her children. It wasn't part of the tour, but I like to linger at the rear and put things together. And maybe say a prayer for these women.

  10. Congrats to Dennis. Not long now!!!

The baby sampler is coming along very well.

We have a lot of beautiful cemeteries around here. We walked in one in Devon and one in Norristown that had gravestones from before the Revolution. There were many from the war era.

We have one up in town (New Britain Borough) that probably has some too as there were many skirmishes in our area and of course, the battle of Valley Forge and The Battle of Trenton are not far off. I love the history of it all.

Hope your weather doesn't get too bad. We are supposed to get the remnants of it tomorrow night and Thursday. Just what my yard does NOT need . . . more water. UGH! It's like a swamp back there right now.

  12. It was a bit chilly when we left church on Sunday. There was some rain but we went on a walk late afternoon, even though I was a bit tired. That's what happens when the time is switched to daylight savings time. Congratulations on Dennis' retirement. I hope he finds good things to do. Some people do find jobs to work at after retirement to make more money. I have done that and glad we can get things paid off since that was my plan to be working for a few more years when at hardware store. Warm day today. Yeah! I love your cross stitch and I pray for you latest granddaughter to appear soon. Excited for you!!!Hug and blessings, Becky

  13. I'm thinkin' you'll have the sampler done in plenty of time! Very cute little pattern. I wouldn't have the patience for that... I prefer larger spaces for handmade items. // Congratulations on Dennis' retirement! Woo-hoo! I know the two of you will be doing more fun things together! I enjoy looking at headstone and cemetery stuff, that never bores me ... but then, you know what one of my main hobbies entails. *wink* Jerry and I are cemetery people... we used to just walk cemeteries to read names and dates (well, I still do even if he can't), to think about those folks' lives. I find cemeteries very interesting. And sometimes there are some very interesting headstones and monuments! One of our local cemeteries (where my son, mom, dad, other family members are buried) has a HUGE veteran's area with several monuments. Our Heritage Girls troop sets the flags on every veteran gravesite every year for Memorial Day. Sending you big hugs and many blessings, my friend!

Loved the tiny stitches or petit point as we call it, so exquisitely done. And loved the wander around historical gravestines too with the girls.

Praying too for Ukraine, innocents suffering for God's watchare upon all innocents suffering everywhere, also Syria the most corrupt regime worldwide, and Afghanistan, Iran where so many suffer under Sharia rule of law unsble to get basucs like good medical help.
Pleading for war abd oppression to end, and cruel evil mandates bringing deep grief of heart to so many... may the LORD through all these horrors draw many to Himself eternally.
Thanks for sharing, and may God bless and keep you and all whom you love safe and well.
Prayer hugs, Shaz in Oz. X

  15. Baby's cross-stitch is looking really sweet. I am sure you'll get it done on time. That's brilliant that you can spend so much time with your granddaughter and do lots of girly things together. I am sure she is thrilled to have her grandparents so near now. I expect you are making lots of plans for when Dennis retires and you will both not be tied down to a work timetable. I find gravestones really informative. I used to go with my mother from cemetery to cemetery looking for information for the Family Tree records. Some of the churches and churchyard are so very pretty in the UK. Unfortunately here they are mostly niches and I don't find the cemeteries very nice to visit at all. Keep well. Amanda x

  18. The cross stitch sampler is adorable. Hope you're able to get it done in time. Cemeteries are wonderful places to walk, peaceful and full of history. I've photographed thousands of stones, some for family genecology for my family and others, and some to document older stones. The first two were particularly interesting with the lettering. Sounds like you had a nice weekend with family and enjoyed the weather. Spotted you on a mutual friends blog and thought I'd pop in to say hi. It's always fun to find new bloggers. Do swing by for a visit.

  19. Betsy, that is such a cute sampler. I bet you are so excited and cannot wait for that baby to be born! And, for you and Dennis to fly over and meet her. Graveyards can be such interesting places. The cemetery where my parents and relatives on my Dad's side are buried has a marker for someone who was involved in the Boston Tea Party!

  21. Your XS is darling! How precious for a newborn's nursery. Piper is getting so big! I'm so glad you are having such a great time with your family. Congrats to Dennis on his retirement. I just visited my families cemeteries using Find a Grave...It shows you the headstone as a photograph up close. Lots of mine are from the 1800's too.,,,but I'm older than you too! LOL!
I'm with you on doing more for Ukraine....it breaks my heart and I pray for them each day. Because they don't belong to NATO they are left on their own. I k now we are helping them but obviously it's not enough or there wouldn't be so much death and destruction Jesus would not stand on the sidelines.
I think our prayers do help though. Take care!

  22. Aw, I wonder if your grandbaby has arrived yet? The cross-stitch is coming along so beautifully! I'm glad you had a wonderful weekend with little Piper and the puppies. God bless you and your family always!

  23. Congrats on your hubby’s retirement! I hope your increased time together will be filled with blessings and joy. Piper sure is a beautiful young lady - I’m so happy that you all live close by each other now. Historic/pioneer/old cemeteries are wonderful! My parents are buried in one and we own plots there also. I enjoy visiting them be it in the PNW or wherever we are.
The situation in Ukraine is complex and I pray God will give those in power here the wisdom on how best to deal with it. We surely need His infinite wisdom these days. I also pray for the innocent people caught up in this war.
    Blessings + peace,
    Aimee
