And it goes on and on...

More snow is predicted for tonight.  It sounds like a broken record. Sorry about that.  The weatherman says we’re stuck in a pattern off of the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska that brings us snow every two to three days.  We did have gorgeous sunshine yesterday though, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.  This was the view off of our deck yesterday.

And this was from about a block away.  Look at that beautiful blue sky.

This is what we’re driving on.  This is the street in front of our house.  Solid ice about 6 inches deep.

I have made some more mini socks.  They take just under 2 hours and I have the pattern memorized so I take these to doctor appointments.  I have about 20 done already.

I made a couple more hats for the Veterans and delivered the blankets and hats on Tuesday.  Thy were thrilled with everything and said they could also use some “twiddle mitts” so I may be making some of those too.

Miss Piper got a new pet this week.  His name is Sam as in “Sam I Am” and he is a beta fish with a beautiful pink castle to live in.  She says he really likes his castle.  In this picture Sam was still in his bowl from the store while the new fishbowl came to temperature.  She really loves him.  She has missed Polly so much since she died.

She outgrew the hat I made her last fall so I sent her a new one.  I think she likes it too.  I also sent her a new eraser for her dry erase board that she uses to play “teacher.”  Look at that face.  I love, love love this little girl. Dennis says she’s looking like a teenager already.

My newest project is a short sleeve sweater for Piper. It’s looking pretty small but I thought that about Dennis and Alex’s sweaters too. I’m making it in a size 6 but I don’t know....

The pattern is called Olinda by Georgie Hallam.  It is a paid for pattern that I bought on (Ravelry). It has both short and long sleeve options and fits sizes newborn to 12 years. It is NOT an intuitive pattern and every row is different. It has been challenging. I sure hope it fits her. If not, we have two great nieces that are just a bit younger than Piper that live near to her, so she can share with her cousins and I’ll make her a bigger size.
The pattern calls for DK weight yarn and I am enjoying it even though it takes a lot of concentration. All of those strands of yarn on the sides are waste yarn that I have the sleeves on for now.

I had 10 more injections in my back on Tuesday. I’m really not sure if they are helping or not. It seems I can only be up and about for an hour or two before the spasms start. I try to remain upbeat about it, but it’s hard not to get discouraged. I wanted so badly to be better by spring and camping season and I’m not sure that’s going to happen. I appreciate each and everyone of you who think of me and pray for me.  I know God has a plan for me at this stage in my life and I’m trying to accept whatever it maybe. At least I can still knit/crochet and read your blogs.
:-)

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and stay safe and warm if you’re up north and cool and dry if you’re down south.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Blessings,
Betsy

  1. Gosh Betsy! Your road looks horrible - a real mess! Please be careful. Piper is just darling (and I agree with Dennis - she is looking like a teenager!). 10 injections sounds like a lot. I do hope they are working.

All of your knitting is beautiful. That latest sweater for Piper is amazing - so delicate.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  2. So sorry to read about more injections and the uncertainty of improvement. You are still in our prayers and pray for strength to deal with the pain. Love the photos of Miss Piper she is certainly growing up. It is a beautiful cardigan for her, such a lovely pattern. Wow, more snow it seems never ending. I must admit it does look beautiful in the photos you have shared with us. Take care.

  4. I hope your back spasms stop soon. You have a beautiful mountain to look at, perhaps I would appreciate our snow more if we had a mountain! I am a broken record about the snow too....it is okay...it is what is happening in our lives right now.

  8. I send prayers your way for your back. ((hugs)). Miss Piper is growing up so fast. She looks very happy with her new hat and fishy. What are "twiddle mitts"? The hats and stockings look awesome. Are the stockings for the children who get the mittens? Looking forward to seeing more of your lovely work sweet friend. Blessings always ((hugs))

  9. Your Piper is so cute! Sure hope that sweater fits; it does look complicated. Wow, your icy street is pretty impressive; I sure hope you don't live on a hill! Some crazy driver did a number on one of our bushes during the snow and totally flattened a bush in our n'bor's yard.

  10. Hi Betsy, We are suppose to get high winds and I think even some snow maybe tomorrow. Those little stockings are so cute and Piper's sweater will be so pretty. Yes, they grow up before we are ready for them too. I am sorry about your back. Nancy

  11. Aw, that little Piper surely is growing! She is such a pretty little girl. And, I love the sweater you are making for her! I can't believe that thick layer of ice on your street! My, that looks so treacherous. I think I would just hibernate and stay inside crocheting until spring!! That would scare me terribly to try to drive on something like that. You are very brave. :) I am SO sorry you are still having the spasms and trust God to please lead your doctors to something that will help you, or better yet, that HE will lay His healing hand on you and give you relief, sweet friend.

  12. Oh my! Such dreadful ice. (And I thought we'd had it bad last week.) Love the things you are making! But I'm so sorry to hear about your back. I'll keep praying, ok? Hang in there, my friend.... Debra

  13. I hope those injections help Betsy, that is a lot to go through every few months. The snow is beautiful from here, not that I want it I am in shorts right now. Not that I want that either, I would still like some cool days before the hot and humid summer.

  14. That's alot of snow, Betsy...and 6" deep of ice on road? Glad I'm here...but then we may get snow as well tomorrow! Hope your back gets better soon! Continued prayers my friend! I've got 3 rows done on prayer shawl....hope to do 3 more today as been busy this weekend...since Friday! Hugs and blessings my friend! Stay warm. We all have sweatshirts on. Megan saw snow on her way to church today, 20 min drive from here, on gold course. Snowing here when she left to go....didn't stick though!

  15. I'm sorry you haven't found much relief with your back pain as of yet. I do pray that you will find some relief soon and that you will be surrounded by God's peace and love. I do love snowy landscapes, but am not fond of ice at all. And, being so close to the beginning of March I'm ready to move onto spring now. Hopefully, someday soon, we both will be seeing flowers and warmer temps! Miss Piper, as always, is a cutie and I love the sweater you're making for her!
    Blessings,
    Aimee
