The End

So, tomorrow night is the last night at the trailer for the summer.  Sad really, but I'm ready to be at home and not lugging everything back and forth everytime I head out.  Clothes, groceries, medicine, computer, etc.  I'm ready for a break.  After our trip to Omaha next month we don't have any "set in stone" plans for travel.  We would like to go to Omaha for Christmas, but we'll have to see what we can find in airline tickets.  I'm not driving through the mountains in Dec./Jan.

We have had absolutely gorgeous weather here this week.  It was 28F Monday morning when I woke up at the lake!  I noticed this morning driving home from a doctor appointment, that the leaves are beginning to change.  It's a bit early for that but everyone is saying all signs point to a long, hard winter.  I sure hope that's wrong.  Maybe I'll go to Maui for the winter! :-)

I finished the scarf!  Finally.  It's 56 inches long and I decided that was enough.  I hope it is. Do you see the mistake I made on the right side?  I didn't knit a gray stripe between the lavender and dark purple.  I think it was probably late at night at the lake where the lighting isn't very good.  It was very hard to see the difference between gray and lavender in the bad light.  I figure it's artistic license. Does it look too bad?  I just didn't want to rip all of that work out.
I started this last night and will finish it up tonight.  I'll show you soon what it is.  It's my first time using Caron Cakes and I have to admit I really like them.  I also bought four skeins of Caron Big Cakes yesterday at Michaels for a Christmas present I will start next.
Mittens will be delivered the first week in October since it's getting so cold in the mornings already.  I think the children will be able to use them at morning recess anyway.

I don't think I showed you  my little angel I got last week at Hobby Lobby.  If I did, I'm sorry.  She was on a MAJOR markdown.  It was 13.99 with 40% off all fall decor.  Then it was another percentage off for a one day in-store special.  I only paid $6.99 for her and I love her.  I have lots of angels and this one looked perfect for this spot.  She's about 18 inches tall plus the hanger, so perfect for this tall narrow space.
My geraniums from the lake are looking a bit rough but still hanging in there.
The same with these two pots.  The round one is usually on the top step of the trailer and the big pot by the trailer hitch.  Considering how cold it has already been, I think they're doing pretty well.
Miss Piper and her parents left for a couple of weeks in Germany.  This was at the airport while waiting in Chicago to check in for their international flight.  She took Paddy because she's soft.  Maybe to use for a pillow?  This little girl is quite the traveler.
All checked in and at the gate getting lunch before the long flight to Dublin.  I can't wait to see her in a few weeks.
We had our senior ladies lunch at church today.  Several of us drive around and pick up the ladies who can't get out easily anymore and take them to the church where we have provided a lunch for them.  I made some delicious Chicken Broccoli Shells.  The recipe was given to me by a young lady in our church and I had never made them before.  Gosh!  They were a hit.  I didn't bring any home the pan was practically licked clean!  It is a recipe from and old Taste of Home magazine.  The recipe is below if you would like to try it yourself.  I take no credit for how good it is.  Very, very easy and delicious.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend my friends.

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever."  Hebrews 13:8

Blessings,
Betsy

  1. It's hard to believe that Summer is over. You had a strange one this year, didn't you ---with all of the wildfire smoke around? I know you'll be glad to be at home for awhile. That's the way I felt getting home from our 5000 mile, 12 day trip out west in the car... I loved it --but it is so nice to get home....

Piper is just adorable.. What a pretty smile she has!!!!!

You got a neat little Fall Angel at Hobby Lobby... Love it.

The Chicken/Broccoli Shells sounds delicious... I can understand why everyone loved it.

    Have a great week ahead.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  3. Morning temperatures have been chilly and next week they will be dipping into the low, low 30s - Fall is here before the solstice. My eyes can't quite read the recipe: would you mind emailing a copy to me.

  5. I like the angel too. Not been to Hobby Lobby in awhile...and there's a new one close to me. Maybe another time I'll go. Our leaves are starting to fall here in the lawn from our heritage birch tree. It looks pretty while walking up the sidewalk and seeing the orange Chinese lanterns on my plant! We've been turning on heat as it's cool in a.m. too. It's turning fall all around us. Megan's headed home from Newport as she spent a couple nights with friends from college. Glad she was able to get away! Piper is adorable and hope their vacation goes well! I'll be praying for them and you as well! Hugs and blessings my friend! xx Becky

  6. Loved the angel and such a bargain. The senior lunch sounded wonderful, I must give the recipe a try. Such an adventure for the family to be travelling to Europe, praying for safe travels. We are still not able to travel but are hoping that we we see the family at Christmas.

  8. I think the scarf looks perfect and I’m sure it will be gratefully received. It’s a very pretty pattern. Am looking forward to seeing what you make with the Caron cakes. I have a ball of that and I’m not quite sure what to do with it. I like the angel as well, she was a real bargain. We don’t seem to decorate for autumn here in the UK. But I do like how cosy and inviting decorated homes look like. Piper looks very excited, I hope they all have a fun trip. And thank you for the recipe, I think I may well give that a go.
I hope you have a great weekend.

  9. Well I admired your scarf and when you pointed out your mistake I finally spotted it, but Betsy, the scarf is lovely! Enjoy it! Last week I was gifted with a five day trip to mid-Washington state. I just posted some photos and was so grateful to go, but I wish I could have visited with you as well! Praying for blessings for you and yours. xx

  10. Oh, that scarf is just divine!!! I had to back and look for the boo boo. That's the good thing about scarves-they bunch up when you wear them so you can't really see any mistakes.

  12. What a neat angel and such a great buy! Love your flowers as well! I love this time of the year, with the leaves changing color and the (mostly) good weather we've been having. I think it's sooooo neat that Miss Piper gets to go to Europe with her mom and dad! I hope they have an amazing time there.
    Blessings,
    Aimee

  13. Hi Betsy, It seems like yesterday that you were just opening up your trailer. I don't know how this summer went so quickly. Just pretend that the mistake in the scarf was on purpose as it is beautiful. Makes it one of a kind! The leaves are changing color here also I have noticed. Have a good week-end. Nancy

  14. Hi Betsey, Congratulations on finishing your scarf, it is lovely and if you didn't tell anyone we would never notice the double lavender stripe. You got it done just in time for cold weather. That recipe looks very good, I might have to give it a try. I have found that most of the recipes form taste of Home are very tasty. Good family comfort food.
About Steamboat Sate Park: This park is almost booked for the whole next year's season, but we found that if you camp there before April 15 or after September 15, it is first come first serve. No reservations and the price goes down and the availability is very good, because no one wants to travel a long distance to camp without reservations. If by any chance it was full there is a great campground 15 miles away in Coulee City that is only full during bass tournaments twice a year :) We are planning on doing our camping there during the off seasons next year :)
If you ever plan on an off season camp out . . . let me know, you never know we could be free get a chance to meet :)
    Have a lovely week.
    Connie :)

  15. Oh, my, I could NOT find the mistake on that beautiful scarf!! I looked and looked and can't see it, so it surely must not be noticeable! It is just so beautiful and perfect in every way. :) Wow, I can't believe it is already time for you to have to pack up everything. It feels like summer just started. LOL! I must really be getting old, because time is going SO fast these days! Little Miss Piper looks adorable, as always. I hope they are enjoying their time in Germany, and I know you are so anxious to see them all soon. God bless you abundantly, sweet friend. You are such a dear blessing to me. ;)

  16. The scarf turned out so beautiful Betsy. Artistic license! I like that. I don't think I've ever made something without a "mistake" of some kind - I just say that's what makes it mine - LOL. The shells look delicious. and Piper! World Traveler.

I ran an errand a little bit ago and noticed some trees beginning to change color, but I also noticed more brown leaves than anything brilliant. The weather this year has been nuts! I think it's played havoc with our Fall colors.

  18. Your scarf is lovely Betsy, no one would notice the skip in the pattern unless you mentioned it. Actually I think it looks like you planned it all along. I did the same thing with mine but caught it right away so I only had to take out two rows. Piper is a cutie!
