Another Month Just Went Whoosh!

Where oh where is the time going? How can it possibly be May 1 already? I'm beginning to understand even better our daughter -in-law's Dad's saying, "Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end the faster it goes." And with that, here's a photo of me in Galveston at Bubba Gump's Restaurant. Doesn't it sound like something that Forrest Gump would say? I forgot this picture was on my phone until Dennis took the one below this week.

Here I am, sitting next to Ronald Regan outside of Sheel's Sporting Good's store here in Omaha. We had gone to a nearby restaurant for lunch after our doctors appointments last week and Sheel's is across the parking lot. Dennis wanted to get prices on some things and we always like to look at camping gear, so we wandered around the store to get a little bit of exercise. I had a few biopsies and my leg was really hurting so I had sat down for a minute when Dennis surprised me with this picture. I don't like photos of myself at all.  Believe me, Dennis didn't need the exercise. Besides very, very physical work at the Open Door Mission, he goes to the exercise room here at the condo several times a week for an hour and a half. Right now he's out doing a full-moon hike with friends. They're trying to hike the first evening of a full moon as it gets dark during this year. They really enjoy it and I encourage him to go with them, even though my back doesn't let me participate.
I finished the granny square shawl and really enjoyed working with the two tones of purple. I made the border up by just doing some double crochets, single crochets and a scallop stitch for the border. It's nice and long, almost 72 inches. This will be donated to UNMC prayer shawl ministry.

I made both of these little pieces this week while waiting at different places. Very simple and easy to do and only 6 inches in diameter. It made me realize just how much I have always enjoyed embroidery and I just haven't done much of it for awhile. I may get a few flour sack towels and make some dish towels for the camper.

This bottom one was only made with five different colors but I love it.

Tomorrow we'll take a run to the storage lot and load some food and clothes into the camper. On the way home after church on Sunday we'll turn the refrigerator on and go pick up the rest of the food and anything else we may need from the condo. Then we'll be off to Pella, Iowa and the Tulip Festival. We're camping with our usual gang. Our minister Jeff and his wife Angie, Curt and Barb. Also Curt's brother Philip, (who is also Dennis' cousin) and his wife Terri will be joining us during the day but staying in a hotel as Philip has had some serious health issues and isn't up to camping yet.

We have other friends who were in Pella a couple of weeks ago who told us that the tulips were already past their prime when they were there. Last year it was the end of May before they bloomed. The weather has been so strange this year. Warm, then cold. So we may not see the tulips, but I think that Pella has other things to offer. Everyone except me is taking their bicycles and kayaks so there will be lots of other things to do too. We'll be there until Wednesday and then come back home. We're both looking forward to being back in the camper. Fun times for sure.

I just thought this picture below was a cute photo I saw online. Even though our girls aren't long-haired chihuahua's, the sentiment is the same for Zoey and Lizzie. :-)

I hope you are all doing well. We've been busy, just doing doctor visits and this and that. A funeral this past week of a long-time friend who died at 68 of cancer. She was a bright spot in this world with a smile on her face until the very end. She will be missed, but oh, how she's celebrating in Heaven right now with Jesus! The memorial service was a fitting tribute to LuAnn, with lots of uplifting stories of her life and happy "Jesus Music" as she called it way back when we sang together in our 20's. We were in a group that traveled the midwest singing concerts.

I'm not sure if the campground we'll be at will have any internet, so I'm not sure if I'll be online. There aren't a lot of amenities there, so not sure how good cell reception will be for my hotspot. If I can get online I will be visiting with you all. Take care and I'll be back soon.

Blessings and hugs,
Betsy

What a Day That Will Be

By: Gaither Vocal Band and Jim Hill

What a day that will beWhen my Jesus I shall seeAnd I look upon his faceThe one who saved me by his graceWhen he takes me by the handAnd leads me through the Promised LandWhat a day, glorious day that will be (in the second person)
There'll be no sorrows thereNo more burdens to bearNo more sickness and no more painNo more parting over thereBut forever I will beWith the one who died for meWhat a day, glorious day that will be
What a day that will beWhen my Jesus I shall seeWhen I look upon his faceThe one who saved me by his grace (but when he)When he takes me by the hand (takes me by the hand)And leads me through the Promised LandWhat a day, glorious day that will be
Oh, what a day that will beWhen my Jesus I shall seeWhen I look upon his faceThe one who saved me by his grace (but whenWhen he takes me by the hand (he takes me by the hand)And leads me through the Promised LandWhat a day, glorious day that will be

  1. I love that photo of you with Ronald Reagan!
Your embroidery is lovely. That's one skill I wish I had. I've tried many times and it always looks terrible.
That's the truth about the charging pods. Pup will bark herself sick at the sight of an Amazon truck making its way down the driveway. She's under the bed now sound asleep after having to spend a rare day alone while we went to the MDSW. I'm sure she worried herself sick the whole time. We took her for chicken nuggets when we got home. Can you say spoiled? Lol.....

  2. OH, your dear friend Luann is having that Glorious Day, seeing Jesus face to face! How marvelous for her...how sad for those she left behind, but the good news is, there will be a great reunion someday!! I am sorry for your loss, however. I know how difficult it is to say farewell to such good friends. I love the photos of you. Both are good! And the shawl is so pretty and purple! I love the embroidery hoops too! Those are really sweet designs. I hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable time on your camping trip with friends, etc. It all sounds so wonderful. I sometimes wish we could've done something like that in our retirement years, but we are at a stage now where we really don't like driving that far, and I don't know that we would be able to drive with a camper attached. But it still sounds like so much fun. You are blessed also to have such good friends to go with! Have a wonderful time! Hope the biopsies on your legs are all negative and that they heal up quickly. (((HUGS)))

  3. I always admire the things you create but sometimes I like them even more than usual and that's how I feel about those 2 6" embroidered pieces.
I hope all goes well and you have a lovely time away.

  4. Hello! I am so happy to visit with you! You are beautiful, my friend! It is nice to see you! I hope you have a wonderful time with your friends on your camping trip! I cannot believe it is May either. How in the world?? Prayers for the biopsies to come back normal. Do you put Vaseline on them? That is what I was told to do. Thanks for your friendship. I am so happy we met!

  6. I'm so glad that you are able to travel now like you had always wanted! And traveling with friends/family makes it even better. Something to plan and look forward to and enjoy while it's happening. I love how much you both enjoy camping. And you are right, there will be something to do and something to see even if you miss the tulips. And more important is the fellowship. Your projects are so pretty!!! I am so sorry about the loss of your friend, even though we know she is in a better place.

  7. Loved seeing your photos and twice you made me laugh. First with the line about the toilet paper and then again with the wireless doorbells. I'm very sorry for the loss of your dear friend, I know that she will be missed . . . that is until you see her again :)

  11. I think you look fabulous in both photos!
Love your embroidery - especially that first one!
Our tulips are probably just past their peak now. If the weather doesn't get to hot, too fast, I'll still have some around for a couple weeks. If it heats up, they'll go over really fast. However, they say we're supposed to have cooler may because of El Nino... we shall see!

  13. I always love your handiwork. I have not done any embroidery in a long time either. Have fun camping and we'll be waiting to hear all about the fun you had.

  14. Betsy, you like beautiful outside the BubbyGump restaurant. I remember watching that movie years ago. I hope you have a good and safe time on your trip and view good tulips and other places to visit. Nice embroideries that you made. Phil is much better even though he still has to put a bandage on his left arm. I got another box of them today at Walmart and glad there was one left so that I could get it. None last time Saturday. I have been shopping there recently, and a lot of items are cheaper than elsewhere. It has been very hot a few days, especially Sunday and Monday. Almost like summertime, but cooler at night! Thanks for the scripture verse and song! I like them all!! Love and hugs, Becky

  15. I love that embroidery you did with all the flowers and butterflies. That is gorgeous. I hope you had a good time in Pella and got to see some beautiful flowers there. My husband is coming home from the hospital tomorrow, after a week of heart stuff. It never gets easier as we get older. Loved the pictures of you on your trip too. Take good care you two, God Bless you both.
