It's less than a week until Thanksgiving here in the US and it's finally feeling like it here in Nebraska. The nights are getting colder and our furnace even came on yesterday. My orchid doesn't seem to care as you can see in the photo below. It has quite a few new buds on it which makes me very happy. I used to kill orchids immediately on getting one, but this one has bloomed over and over again.
I made overnight cinnamon rolls Sunday night. They don't look like much here but they were SO yummy. Super easy using frozen dinner rolls. You just pour them into a bundt pan, mix cinnamon, brown sugar and nuts together and sprinkle on top, then pour melted butter over them. Put them into the oven overnight to rise, then bake in the morning for twenty minutes. While baking, I mixed up a glaze of powdered sugar, vanilla and milk. Pour a little over rolls in pan after baking, turn onto a platter and pour the rest of the glaze on top. Oh. My. Goodness. They are so, so good.****** Edited to add the recipe. Sorry it's dark. I have no idea why it's so dark. I. sure hope you can read it.
I finished the last pair of Christmas gift socks in Knit Pick's Felici "Sanderson" color way. They match perfectly which is always a nice way to finish socks. Now I just have to decide who gets which pair.
I have started another prayer shawl for the University of Nebraska Medical Center. This is using the Iris Stitch and using Big Twist yarn in "Cotton Candy" color way. I have five or six more to make ASAP now that I've finished Christmas presents. I know I won't finish them before our trip and of course I'll take socks for airplane knitting. They are small and easy to carry along.I've gotten the suitcase out of the closet and started putting things into it as I think of what needs to go. The electrical adapters went in yesterday because I forgot those once and had to buy new ones just to be able to charge my phone. I have my Barbies that will be going to "J". I've had them since I was 8 or 9 years old so they are true antiques. :-) Piper played with them but didn't want them anymore. I'm also taking wrapping paper and tape since I don't dare wrap Christmas gifts before traveling. TSA will just unwrap them all.Alex told us a few days ago to bring our "welly's, (boots), and warm clothes because he's made reservations in the Cotswalds for a few days. That will be a lot of fun. He is in Japan right now for business and will be back in London just before we arrive. We got a video on the family chat today of "J" asking her oldest cousin Kyleigh to come with us and "bring The Piper". We cracked up at "The Piper". She loves Piper very much but has never met Kyleigh. I sure wish we could take them with us too, but Kyleigh is in her 3rd year at University in Bozeman, MT and "The Piper" will be in school too. :-) Our daughter-in-love sent us a video this morning of the car windows completely frozen over in London this morning when she was taking "J" to school. Yikes! It hasn't been that cold here yet.
We're enjoying getting ready for Thanksgiving. Dennis did a Costco run this morning. We're taking the turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy and cranberries to Mandy & Brad's. His family will also be there along with my sister, niece and nephew. They will all bring other side dishes and desserts and Brad is making ribs on the grill. I know we'll have a wonderful time. How are you all doing in your preparations and what are your holiday plans?
Take care my friends. I hope you all have a very blessed Thanksgiving if you're here in the US.
Betsy
Those calls with Baby J are just precious. I love that she is so aware of her cousins and asks for them, even if she is not quite sure who they really are. What a sweetie. And "The Piper", so adorable.
ReplyDeleteThose socks are fabulous! And what a pretty pink shawl. You do such wonderful work and are so generous with your talents.
Your thanksgiving sounds wonderful! My daughter is hosting my herd of people. I signed up for ham and oyster dressing. I am cheating with my pies and ordered "cowpies" from our local ice cream shop in pumpkin cheesecake ice cream and oreo ice cream. I am checking on the turkey since my youngest son signed up for that. I just want to make sure he is up to it.
Hello, my lovely friend! Thank you for the cinnamon roll information. I am going to do that soon, perhaps even Thanksgiving morning! Your Thanksgiving sounds wonderful! Can you believe it is almost here? And I am so thrilled for you to be spending Christmas in London with your people there. I enjoy hearing all about how you are preparing. Have a cozy weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh my, so much goodness oozing out of this post, especially those cinnamon rolls! I can smell them baking now! They look so good! And I don't know how you make such tiny little stitches on knitting those socks! That is so amazing to me! And the pink blanket is so pretty too. I love hearing about your sweet baby J, and how she wants to see her cousins ("The Piper" sounds so cute!) Sounds like you will have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family. Wow, turkey AND ribs? That sounds good! We will have turkey here, roasted by my sweet DIL Rose. I will be doing the potatoes, sweet potato casserole, pumpkin pies, and other basics. My sister is bringing stuffing and a jelled salad and rolls and I don't know yet what my niece will bring. We still need a vegetable...well, I'll figure that out. It will all be good and too much food either way. Take care and enjoy your time with your loved ones. Blessings to all.
ReplyDeleteYou beat me to finishing your Sandersons. I’ve got one more toe to do but I’ve got too many other things going on at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI’ve been craving a good cinnamon bun lately and even thought about taking a trip up to IKEA to pick up some. I never thought about making my own. I’ll have to investigate.
Happy Thanksgiving Betsy! Oh your cinnamon rolls look great! We may have Thanksgiving dinner with the GRands, Gene is having a in office surgical procedure on Monday so we will see how he feels:)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're back blogging again. I love your posts, Betsy. Those cinnamon rolls look delish! And I love the socks and afghans that you make. How exciting for you to be heading back to London again. Is baby J really in school already? Or is it for 3 or 4 year olds perhaps? Our youngest daughter and family will be joining us for Thanksgiving, so we are looking forward to that. Hope yours is lovely too. God bless you and yours!
ReplyDeleteThank you for adding the recipe for the cinnamon rolls!! Those look easy enough for me to try!! Yummmm!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stitch work. I was wondering if you are allowed to even take knitting needles on the plane or not. I read somewhere they suggested nail clippers to cut yarn, as you cannot take scissors.
ReplyDeleteWhat pretty socks and a stunning shawl pattern! The open suitcase so you can put things in as soon as you think of them is a very good idea!! I am sure 'The Piper' would love to go with you, too!
ReplyDeleteThat is one happy orchid!
ReplyDeleteThose rolls look delicious!
I can read the recipe just fine. Thanks so much for sharing! They look so good and they seem so easy to make. They'll be on my table Christmas morning. I usually do the kind that come in a tube but I'm not really a fan.
ReplyDeleteI think it must be hard in US having Thanksgiving so close to Christmas, I'm in full Christmas mode here, mailed all overseas Christmas cards now working through Aussie ones. I dont like getting them out too late.
ReplyDeleteI'm praying for your trip to London and Gods watchcare on your safe journey there and back, hopefully not too cold. Sending prayer hugs 🙏🏻🤗Shaz in Oz.x
You've reminded me how much I like cinnamon buns and I plan on making some later today. I'll make my regular recipe tough yours do look decadent!!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine how excited you're getting for your trip.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving ( ours is ,of course, long past).
The cinnamon roll recipe looks good. I should use it as well. I remember my mom Francis liked making cinnamon rolls. I haven't made one recently from scratch. Interesting that it is so cold in London with ice!! WOW!!! It has been cold here lately. When Phil and I went down to a cemetery close to Harrisburg, it was so cold outside 11/22. Got stuck in traffic due to Ducks football game in Eugene after we left Salem. Have a good Thanksgiving with your family and friends and a blessed, safe trip to England.
ReplyDeleteThose cinnamon rolls!! I just may have to make or buy some when I go to town this morning. :) The traveling you do is amazing. It must be fun getting together with family like you two do. Your Thanksgiving plans sound wonderful. Happy Thanksgiving! and have a wonderful trip!!
