Happy Day After Thanksgiving

I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving. I took two days away from the computer. Wednesday was spent cooking and yesterday was with family. It was wonderful.

The actual meal was at Brad and Mandy's home. Brad's parents, siblings and families, my sister, her daughter and husband and another niece and her boyfriend were all there. It was a houseful for sure and a wonderful time. Everyone contributed toward the meal. We took the turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy and deviled eggs. I forgot the cranberries in the refrigerator at home but there was so much food we didn't miss it at all.

Dennis was at the food bank at the Open Door Mission on Wednesday. It's his normal Wednesday volunteering there, but because it was the day before Thanksgiving, the news stations were there filming. We started getting texts, emails and phone calls telling us that he was on the news. A friend took this photo on her TV and sent it to us. Not the most flattering pose, as he was talking to the gentleman and his mouth was open, but it's proof he was there. :-) That's Dennis on the left and his cousin, Curt, in the back on the right with the bag in his hand. They were there almost ten hours on Wednesday after 8 hours on Tuesday. He was exhausted, but he'll be back next Tuesday.

We had a wonderful time yesterday and ate too much as usual. Today has been spent at home. I put away all of the fall decor and set out my snowmen. I'm not going to decorate for actual Christmas since we'll be gone most of December. The snowmen can stay out for January too, so it will be done when we get home.

Tonight and tomorrow we're in a Winter Storm Warning with a possible eight inches of snow. The forecast has changed from 1-2 inches to 2-4 inches and now 6-8! As usual, the weather people are covering all of their bases. It went from the 60's to the teens in a matter of a few days. It's that damp cold outside now that just permeates your bones.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday if you celebrated yesterday and are looking forward to the coming festivities during December. We're anticipating some events that will be new to us when we arrive in London. At least there shouldn't be as much snow as there is here! I'll leave you with my favorite Bible verse. I'm patiently awaiting the return of my Lord and Saviour.

Blessings and hugs,

Betsy

  3. What a wonderful day with family! You did have a full house.
The ministry that Dennis does to feed the hungry is so admirable. Several of my friends are active in our local food bank and I bet most people don't know what all goes into making it happen day after day. One of my friends husbands is the bread pickup guy. Our food bank is open two days a week and each of the afternoons before he makes the rounds of bread (and other baked goods) distributors who donate items close to expiration and make some good deals on overages, too. Once he fills his truck, he heads back to the food bank, unloads and puts it all on shelves. There is a whole crew of retired guys with pickup trucks doing similar pickups and drop offs. Feeding the hungry is one of the most important service we can do.
I am so excited about Christmas in London! I know you will share all your adventures and as many pictures as you can. We are just getting the 2 inches but the roads are already slick and our scanner is sending out the salt trucks as well as officers and wreckers to get people out of ditches. I'm glad I am not a Black Friday shopper!

  5. We were FREEZING last night at the tree lighting. What a change in temperature we had over the past 24 hours. 70 degrees to wind chills in the 20's last night. Crazy.
Thanks for reminding me to drop off some more things at our food pantry. I've got boxes of expensive cat food here that my cats won't eat that I'm sure some other kitties might love.

  6. In Australia the only way thanksgiving rates is in the black Friday specials which is kind of odd to my thinking. We're into Christmas mode here. Praying for you Betsy that you'll be safe and your card arrives soon. My friend in Scotland has hers and I reckon yours is soon. All mailed together.

  7. Our local newspaper keeps reminding us that more people than ever are coming to the Food Bank. Times are hard for some folks. Dennis sure is doing a good thing helping out every week.
I'm glad you had a nice Thanksgiving get-together ( even if you did forget the cranberries). One year 18 people were at the table ready for me to come and sit down when I realized with horror that I had not turned the potatoes on yet :(
    Things do happen, don't they!!
Have a blessed Sunday ( and I hope the weather people are wrong about the 6 to8 inches of snow.)

  8. Glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Ours was quiet. It was just Steve and me. BUT, we had some delicious food, lots of football, and like you, I put out my snowmen. We don't celebrate Christmas, but I do enjoy my winter decor up through January.
