We left for Amanda’s graduation in Louisville, Kentucky on Wednesday morning. We stayed at finger Lakes State Park in Missouri the first two nights. Today we’re on the road and should arrive at a state park just north of Louisville in Indiana in a few hours.
This is our camping buddies cool camper. Would you believe I forgot to take a photo of ours?
The first night when we arrived, Curt and Barb opened up their camper and everything was wet. It had poured down rain the night before in Omaha and apparently when their camper is down, it leaks. The mattress was soaked through and through along with all of the bedding. Dennis and Curt ran to the nearest Walmart and bought an air mattress for them to use while theirs dries out.
With the humidity here that’s not an easy feat. It’s been between 93 and 97% since we left home.

Today we’re trying to outrun severe thunderstorms. The goal is to get our camp set up before the storms hit this afternoon, but I’m not sure we’re going to make it. That’s Curt and Barb ahead of us.

This was the traffic in St. Louis a little while ago. There’s the St. Louis arch! No way could you convince me to live where traffic is this heavy. We are 52 1/2 feet long between the truck and the camper, and driving through this is not fun.

Right after we saw the arch we drove over this bridge. Curt is still leading the way!

What a neat bridge.
So far we’re having a great time. We only have electricity at our site the next two nights. When we are at Mammoth Cave, there is no electricity so we won’t be able to run the air conditioner. Yikes! I may not survive or we’ll leave early.
Blessings and Love,
Betsy
I was watching The Weather Channel this morning and thinking of you when I saw all the tornado warnings. I know you're good at this so I won't lecture but please be careful out there!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debbie. I’ve been watching the storms right behind us and it does look pretty nasty.

Truly a beautiful bridge!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you're having a great time,
I hope you'll have the same great time throughout the trip,
even where there won't be any electricity!!
Have a great weekend!!
My ex and I and our son Jeff have been to the top of the Gateway Arch. That was back in 1985 when we had gone to the St. Louis Shriner's Hospital (they thought they could do something for Jeff's left hand, but nope). Looking out the windows atop the arch, I remember seeing people in swimming pools that were on top of buildings. They looked like ants stuck in the water lol. Other than that, all we could see to the west was nothing but the city of St. Louis and it's various suburbs. Looking to the east out the other side windows was the Mississippi River and East St. Louis as far as the eye could see. We ate in a restaurant that was in one of the riverboats (permanently docked) by the Arch at that time (I've heard it's not there now). I don't remember what we ate, so it must not have been anything special. // Prayers for a safe and uneventful drive to where you're going! Enjoy! Hugs and blessings!
ReplyDeleteWhat a horrible way to find out your roof leaks!!! They are lucky to have such great travel buddies. I would be so disappointed.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter and 2nd oldest grandson are actually in St Louis this weekend! He is a super great freshman soccer player and his team from Ohio was invited to compete in a tournament there. I think they are crazy for traveling so far, but what do I know. She was looking for points of interest because they are there from Thursday night thru Tuesday. Unless they lose on Sunday (fingers crossed) and can drive home all night Sunday night. That way she doesn't lose 3 days vacation and he won't miss 2 days of summer classes.
I am not a person who can drive in a big city. And with a camper! Denis and your friends are superheroes. We are driving to Cleveland tomorrow and I will have my eyes shut from city limits to the parking garage. There is a spot on the big highway that leads to everything in Cleveland that is a 45% sharp turn with lanes and lanes of traffic and it is actually in real life called "Deadman's Curve". That is how fun it is to drive in Cleveland.
Enjoy your getaway and graduation celebration!
Mammoth Cave has been one of our favorite trips. We have been twice, and I'd love to go again.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful vacation.
Oh gosh, praying for you all to stay safe and dry! That's such a shame their mattress got wet. And then I know things will probably start to smell bad if it doesn't get totally dried out! Praying things will get better for everyone soon. I hope you have a good time in Kentucky when you get there! be careful and may God bless your time away.
ReplyDeleteRoad trips and camping..how fun. Pray the weather holds and you have a great time.
ReplyDeleteLoved camping when I was growing up, but didn't marry a camper type, so we did the hotel/motel thing. It had it's advantages, but I love camping!
Hope you don't melt in the heat. I believe the Cave is cooler in temperature so you might like that. We have been to Mammoth Cave many times, but usually in the Winter! Thanks for the look at the Arch! Travel safely!
ReplyDeleteI've driven over that same bridge--the arch is impressive! I hope you can enjoy your day without any unplanned adventures!
ReplyDeleteHope all goes well for you camping when it's so hot. Hope it cools down a little. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI detest traffic and I can't imagine traveling in a 52 ft rig. But I have no doubt that Dennis is an excellent driver. I hope the storms won't be a problem and you can continue your lovely trip in safety.
ReplyDeleteGood ways home after being at another graduation for Amanda. Sad that there's no electricity where you'll be staying at. Stay cool 😎. It's getting into the 90s Sunday and Monday. Good to have a/c and a fan in living room on the ceiling. Phil was tired when he came back home from work today so he took a nap for a few hours. Have a good rest of your trip with your friends.
