We have a beautiful greenspace outside our condo with trees between the buildings but I see a branch that doesn't seem to have made it through the winter. It's a great place to sit with a cup of tea in the evenings once the sun moves around the building.
I finished a granny blanket for Parsons House where Mom lived. I plan to continue to make blankets for the residents there since they all seem to like them. I just finished the border on this one about midnight last night so it hasn't been washed and blocked yet. I'm sure some of the wonkiness will disappear.
These cabinets have driven me crazy since we moved into the condo almost exactly two years ago. The glass was clear and you could see everything inside. It was the only cabinet to keep our dishes and glasses in and they don't all match. It looked chaotic inside, not like the beautiful ones you see in magazines.
We found this vinyl on Amazon for less than $9.00. You just wet the glass and lay the vinyl on top. This was SO easy to do and if we get tired of it, you just peel it off. There is no sticky residue and I think the cabinets look a lot better. What do you think? Dennis has been hinting that we can redo the kitchen if I want to because the black granite is impossible to keep clean. DO NOT SET A GLASS down on the counter. You have to get the granite cleaner out just to get the mark off. It's ridiculous. And the space for the refrigerator is really small so a normal size refrigerator won't fit. I just can't bring myself to redo it though. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the cabinets and it would cost a fortune. So I'm keeping the kitchen and just trying to make it work for us. I know I'm blessed with a beautiful home and I'm truly grateful. We love condo life and hopefully will be traveling more in the future. We can shut off the water and just leave. No yard work or snow removal. I'm very grateful for our home.
Dennis is still dealing with paperwork regarding Mom's death. We had to go downtown to the courthouse last week and get a copy of Dad's death certificate. We drove around for quite awhile without finding anywhere to park. Finally I dropped him off and drove around and around and around the block waiting. There is so much construction downtown right now that I will avoid it like the plague until it's done. And what has happened to people's patience when driving? I see a lot of agression and anger. Especially downtown! :-)
I hope all is well with you all. I've been doing better about reading blogs this week and trying to catch up with all of you. I missed all of you when I was away. June will be busy. We're heading to Kentucky for a graduation of a young lady from church who is getting her Masters Degree in Nursing. She has no family going, so Curt & Barb and Dennis and I are camping our way to Louisville, Kentucky. We've had this trip planned since last fall. After the graduation we're going to Mammoth Cave and then we'll head home for a week or so before taking Miss Piper to the Black Hills to camp for a week at our favorite campground. She's never been there and we're looking forward to the trip with her. Zoey will stay with Lizzie, Brad and Mandy. Later in July we'll head west to Spokane, stopping in Montana to see our son and grandkids. We're also planning to go to the Oregon Coast for a few days before heading back to Nebraska. So a busy summer is ahead if our plans actually happen.
Take care and I'll be back soon.

Blessings and love,
Betsy

What A Friend We Have In Jesus
Text: Joseph M. Scriven
Music: Charles C. Converse
- What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer! - Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer. - Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there. - Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised
Thou wilt all our burdens bear;
May we ever, Lord, be bringing
All to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright, unclouded,
There will be no need for prayer—
Rapture, praise, and endless worship
Will be our sweet portion there.
I think that vinyl looks terrific! So easy to install and looks so professional. Great fix for one of those little things that nag you. I agree, remodeling a kitchen is a big expense. I would make due, too.
ReplyDeleteI did want to thank you for your suggestion of the can rack for my pantry a few months ago. I finally pulled the trigger since it never went back on sale. I just love it and it pretty much emptied a cupboard so I can move things around better.
All your travels sound lovely! After being homebound, I am glad you guys can go out and about and enjoy that camper as well as all the lovely parts of nature and fellowship. You will have a wonderful summer!!!
My mom's estate wasn't too bad since my dad was still here. I thought I had all the ducks in a row for his, but it sure isn't easy. The worst was money on account at his VA living facility which had it's own bank. He had set up a savings account there and even with me as beneficiary we had to wait months for all kinds of things to sign off before it was released. I finally developed a plan since I had to go out of town to deal with it. I would drive to the facility and talk to them, then hit the hospital which also had pending things and then treat myself to lunch before heading home. And those death certificates are not cheap!
I really enjoy your blog! When I start checking out some blogs, they seem great then a few paragraphs down and the bad language starts. May God continue His blessings on you and yours!
ReplyDeleteZoe is a sweetheart! She's got a face just asking for a cuddle. I was tempted to put glass front cabinets in when we re-did the kitchen because they are so popular but The Mister said no. I'm glad now because I'm sure they would have been a jumble. I don't have anything that matches anymore.
ReplyDeleteI like that vinyl. What a great invention! Our kitchen is very old and needs to be updated so we looked at new cabinets and counter tops a couple years ago. I was shocked to learn you can't put anything hot on them, or use a scrubber on them... our counter tops are so durable! If a pan makes a scratch, you just scrub it right off. They're tough and easy to clean... I'm not sure if I could handle the new 'gentler' countertops. That's a beautiful blanket. I don't crochet, what do you mean by 'It hasn't been blocked?"
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see you on your blog. Zoey is adorable. What a cute face. We sure miss our little Shih Tzu, Molly Girl. That vinyl looks so professional. Nice touch. I just did a living room make over with the help of my kids. It was my Mother's Day present.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend, and thats for the wonderful verses and hymns. Love them.
Buy some pretty place mats to put on that granite countertop:) I like your solution to the plain glass it looks great! You have lots of fun things planned for the Summer good for you guys! Your afghan is lovely and it is a good thing that you have a place to donate to.
ReplyDeleteYour balcony looks like a great place to sit and read...you have plants all potted up too. You're ahead of me! I like the vinyl you put on your cupboards...I think it looks nice! Good job. Sounds like a busy summer ahead for you....enjoy! God bless you all.
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with your cabinets and the view from your balcony looks so relaxing. One of my very favorite songs is what a friend we have in Jesus. Oh how awesome He is!
ReplyDeleteThe opaque vinyl is so attractive it made me wish I had somewhere I could use some.
ReplyDeleteI'm like Zoey....when it's nice out I can spend hours sitting and watching birds or Miss Kitty ( who also avidly watches birds).
You have a lovely summer lined up. I hope you have sunshine and nothing but great times. You both deserve that.
love your idea of giving back to Parsons House. They certainly will appreciate your donations, Betsy♥
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with the cabinet! We use similar stuff (different pattern) for our bathroom windows for privacy. Dave just got some UV blocking stuff for the sliding glass door on his studio to help keep it cooler.
ReplyDeleteI do like the vinyl to block the glass on the cabinets! The crochet blanket is perfect for a lap robe--very generous of you to send them on to Parsons House!
ReplyDeleteHello Betsy, school's almost out, then I'll have more time for visiting blogs. May God help you get everything done for your mama soon. May he also bring joy to you and your family's hearts. The cabinet looks marvelous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautifully detailed update—reading it felt like catching up with an old friend over coffee.
ReplyDeleteYes, that truly is a cute face! Zoey sounds like the perfect little companion, especially during these spring days when fresh air and birdsong make everything better. It's so lovely that she has a special perch to enjoy the greenspace outside.
Your generosity shines through in your blanket-making for Parsons House. There’s something deeply comforting about hand-crafted gifts, especially for those in care homes. I'm sure your granny blanket will bring warmth far beyond the physical.
And that vinyl cabinet solution? Brilliant! It’s amazing how a simple change can transform a space—and all without the mess or commitment of a remodel. As for that black granite struggle, I feel your pain. A beautiful surface that’s high-maintenance can be a love-hate relationship! But your mindset about making it work, appreciating your home, and embracing the condo lifestyle is so uplifting. Less yard work and the freedom to travel—now that’s a true blessing.
Your summer travel plans sound both meaningful and exciting! Supporting a young lady at her graduation, visiting family, and showing Miss Piper the wonders of the Black Hills—it all paints a picture of a summer filled with joy, connection, and adventure. I hope it all goes smoothly and brings many happy memories.
Thank you for sharing such a rich glimpse into your life—it’s inspiring, grounded, and full of heart.

Oh yes, He is our BEST Friend♥ I love that hymn, brings back memories of church when I was young. Your little balcony looks like a lovely place to sit for a while, I think Zoey thinks so too. Enjoy your travels☺♥
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful post. So glad you are able to get back on here and also do all the things you are doing. I do love the cabinet doors! Great job! It looks very professional! I didn't know that about granite counter tops! Why is it so popular if it is so difficult to maintain? I had no idea! But yes, it's very expensive to remodel, so I'm sure you'll find ways to "make do". Your trips all sound wonderful. It would be great to be able to just take off and go camping like that and see so many beautiful places. I know you will enjoy those trips! I hope you have a wonderful week ahead. (((hugs)))
ReplyDeleteZoay is an adorable dog. I like what you did with the cabinet where put things in. I did go outdoors to cut back roses as there was a lot. A lot still out there. Decided to go on a walk with Phil after dinner. Looks like you are going to have a busy summer ☀️ with traveling. I miss traveling elsewhere via plane as we have to save money š°. Might get to see you again. Continue to pray for you and Dennis.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are going to have some fun trips this summer! I agree with you about remodeling... I don't mind repainting, rearranging but I'm so over major projects at our age!
ReplyDeleteA very cute face indeed. And I love the colors of your granny square blanket. I think the glass cabinets look great. I'm of the mindset if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Remodeling can definitely be very expensive. Simple upgrades are much easier and cost effective. Enjoy your summer travel and adventures.
ReplyDeleteIt's been twelve years since my dad passed and I just recently got a bit more paperwork to do. How weird is that!
ReplyDelete.
You probably wouldn't like my hutch, haha.. nothing but crafts and wonderful gifts the kids and grandkids have given me over the years. My favorite part are all the different bird items I've collected that my DIL Amanda has added to over time. My dishes sit in the kitchen cupboards... and they rattle every time the neighbor lady slams her door. Oiy.
.
Zoey looks like that spot is her comfy place on nice days. I wish I had a patio to myself.. I'd be out there every day. Even when doing my work on the laptop.
.
I'll get back to you at some point on the things we discussed in email. Life turned very chaotic and hard. I haven't had a moment to do anything other than handle the things it threw at me.
.
Hugs and love and blessings!
