They left for home on Saturday afternoon and arrived late morning, (for us), on Sunday. We crammed everything we could into those four days and, of course, I managed to get sick. Tuesday I lost my voice and I still don't have it back. Negative for covid, so I think it's probably a sinus infection as I still have a very sore throat and find it hard to eat or drink anything. If I'm not better by tomorrow I promised Dennis I would go to the walk-in clinic as my doctor doesn't have any appointments open. No one else seems to have gotten it and for that I'm very grateful.
The sweaters I made both fit "Baby J". Here is the hooded one. The sleeves are a little long, but it will give her room to grow. She also took three of Piper's outgrown sweaters home. She needed these sweaters as it was pretty cold while they were here.
We had snow flurries and she was fascinated as they rarely have snow where she lives in London. Look at that sweet little girl. Sure wish I could show her face, but I truly understand the reasoning of why I can't. For my newer readers, my dear daughter-in-law's job is such that she and Baby J's photos need to be offline for security. They are both gorgeous and I would love to share, but it's not meant to be. And guess what? We have a new little grandchild on the way in June or July! Baby J will have a new little brother or sister. Needless to say, Grandpa and I are very excited over this huge news.
My sister, Melanie, is called "the baby whisperer" by all who know her. She rocks NICU babies two evenings a week when she gets off work at her full-time job. She rocks every. single. baby who is born at church. There isn't aperson under 35 years old at church that she hasn't changed their diaper if they were there as babies! She worked her magic on Baby J on Thanksgiving. I think if you took her babies away she wouldn't survive. I sure love this sister of mine and I'm grateful that we live close together again and get to make up for lost years apart.
On Thanksgiving Eve, Alex, DIL and Piper made dinner for us out of one of Piper's cookbooks. It was delicious. Piper and "T" made appetizers, salad, green beans and desserts while Alex took care of the main dish. He is a great cook and loves to experiement with spices and new ingredients.
I was able to finish two blankets over the past couple of weeks. I crocheted in the evenings when we came home after full days with the kids. I used Bernat Baby in pink and white for both blankets.
They are similar but a bit different.
I also began an "Every Which-Way Filet" crochet baby blanket in blue. These will all be donated to the Open Door Mission.
Last night I started Piper's sweater using Hobby Lobby's "I Love This Yarn" in the Ivory Tweed Colorway. It is again the "Pure Comfort Cardigan" that she loves. She is getting to the age that she picks the pattern and yarn for almost everything I make her. She is almost a teenager! Twelve! When did that even happen?
She was so good with "Baby J" this week. She helped her with her meals. Helped her change clothes and just generally was the BEST babysitter ever! I just wish I could show you the photos and videos we took. The took of them performed a Taylor Swift Era's tour concert for us one night and it was fabulous.
Piper and I exchange advent calendars every year. I knitted 50 baby socks and made them into advent calendar's for each of us. I have so much fun filling hers every year. This was my day 1 gift. Yesterday and today I recieved chocolates. It's so much fun to check every day.
We had a couple of other adventures while the kids were here but this post is long enough. I'll share those next time. Thank you for forgiving me for not checking blogs last week while I enjoyed our family time. I think I'm caught up now. We missed Jamie's family, but this time of year isn't good traveling weather to/from Montana.
Take care and I'll be back soon.
Blessings and love,
Blessings and love,
Betsy

I have a hard time believing that is Baby J. I still have her in my head as an infant. Where does the time go? That sweater is adorable on her.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling better. I felt a bit fluish after my Thanksgiving visit with the big Grands for about 24 hours but now all I have left is a headache which is very annoying. There's too much to do this time of year to be down and out.
Congratulation on a new baby next summer! What fun that will be, I hope you get to go there again and spend some time with baby J and her brother or sister! Looks like the girls will keep you making sweaters for a long time yet! Hope your cold is better real soon. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteWhat a Fabulous Family Week!!! Baby J is growing so fast, what a cutie-pie! And CONGRATULATIONS! A new baby!!! What a wonderful gift!! So exciting. I bet it was just wonderful watching Piper and Baby J together. So much fun. I am sure the Taylor Swift concert was a blast! I'm sorry you lost your voice. This has been happening to me off and on. I think mine is sinus related, too, and it is very frustrating. But it does sound like packed days of family, food and fun. I can't wait to see what you will be creating for the new little one!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you got sick and even lost your voice. I hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteYou had a whirlwind visit with your son and his little family. I'm so happy for you that you'll have another baby to love. You'll have to give "Baby J" a new designation.

What a wonderful blessing to receive on Thanksgiving - congratulations! Like the others, I’m surprised how much Baby J has grown. Your crochet hooks and knitting needles are rarely at rest.
ReplyDeleteThe food looks amazing. I can't wait to see the blue baby blanket when it's done. They all look great. The advent exchange sounds so much fun. I wish our kids lived closer, but they just don't visit (unless they want something) anymore. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got to spend time with the family, but sorry you ended up sick! I brought something home from mom's but so far it hasn't been too bad. Mostly just a bit of a cough and feeling a little run down.
ReplyDeleteAll your projects look great - but that's no surprise! you're a fantastic craftswoman!
Always find your blog so delightful and your handiwork is beyond beautiful. Family time is the best. I'm just now getting back to some blog visits. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad for you to have had such a good visit and exciting news! Beautiful new projects, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post. I feel like I know you and your family better. I also adore your sister just from your description. She looks like love personified.
ReplyDeleteHave yourself a merry little Christmas!

Betsy, I had to come back and tell you how much I enjoyed the comment you left on my blog. About your sister's end of December wedding almost 50 years ago. You must have been as beautiful as the bride, wearing green velvet. The other attendant wore cherry red velvet and that's what my maid of honour also wore. I can imagine how lovely it looked when your sister carried that pure white poinsettia. Thanks for including those details. I really loved reading them. GM
ReplyDeleteAn amazing week with the family, despite the sickness! Glad Baby J got some cozy sweaters just in time for the cold. And how exciting—another grandbaby on the way! 🎉
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you got time to spend with some of your "away" family.
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better soon.
Hope by now you are feeling lots better. Sounds like you got to spend a nice time with family. What are you going to make for the new baby?
ReplyDeleteHello, my lovely friend. I hope you are feeling better. I have been thinking of you lately! I am so happy to read of your wonderful visit and of your new little one coming! I always enjoy visiting with you. It is like visiting with a friend over coffee.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading this happy post of your time with your beautiful family. I can tell Baby J is just adorable, and I am so glad you had this special time with her and the rest of the family, and that another sweet baby is on the way! How exciting for all of you! I am so sorry you've been sick again. I just read your comment on my post, and know that you have meds and are on the mend, but still, that cough, etc., is no fun. I dealt with it after our trip to the mountains in October, and I think I can finally say now, over a month later, that I am finally over it. Sinus issues have been very prevalent this fall, and they trigger the coughing. I pray you feel better really soon so you can enjoy the rest of the Christmas season. Thank you for our Christmas card! The first one received! I haven't even begun to think about cards yet...I hope to get started maybe next week, but the calendar is already so busy that I just don't know if I will. How do retired people stay so busy??? Please take care of yourself and feel better. God bless you dear friend. You are amazing with all you accomplish even when not feeling well!! (((hugs)))
ReplyDeleteI am glad you had a good time with Alex and his family! I am sure your youngest granddaughter is adorable as Piper!!! I hope we will be able to see our grandchildren soon. I miss them. It has been cold lately with freezing weather but no snow or much ice. Thanks for the Christmas card you sent us. I hope getting ours done this coming week. I did get some calendars printed through Shutterfly recently. Two of them are sent to family members and 3 to me, with 2 for friends. I like Shutterfly with the calendars. I hope you feel better!! Colds are no fun and I had one a few months ago. God bless and be safe and healthy!!
ReplyDeleteI love when family members come to visit whether they are related by blood or people our family has "adopted". I've been crocheting away and currently I hope to crochet about 10 easy bookmarks by Monday to give to my Bible study group on Tuesday. We shall see.
