Sunshine Tuesday

Happy Tuesday to all of you! The sun is shining for the first time in days and although it’s very cold, only 25°F, it looks warm and for some reason it feels warm when the sun is shining. 

I’ve had a busy morning so far. We had a young man come out to give us an estimate regarding our woodstove. After that I went to the post office to mail Alex’s birthday/Christmas gift. Then it was on to the church for a couple of errands there and to the grocery store. I just got home and put two loaves of banana bread in the oven. I had some bananas that got just a little too ripe to eat and I can’t bring myself to throw them away. Banana bread is a great thing to put into the freezer to pull out if you need a quick dessert. The house smells so yummy right now. I wish you could all smell it along with me.  We could have some tea and some banana bread warm from the oven together. Or, you could have a danish cookie from Costco!  I have lots of those.  Ha ha!

I’ve finished the fourth block on the “12 blocks of Christmas KAL”.  Dennis said his favorite is this plum color out of the four blocks.

And here they are, all four together. This is the first of three strips. I am having so much fun with this KAL.

I’ve also done three loads of laundry and changed the sheets on the bed this morning. I think I’ve earned a few hours of knitting time this afternoon don’t you?

Here are a couple more pictures Alex sent me. This one is of the Tower of London. I think the white brick is beautiful.

Many people think this is the Tower of London but this is actually Tower Bridge if I recall correctly.

He also got a picture of himself ice-skating with the Victoria and Albert, (my favorite,) museum behind him. He said this one was for me and the Sherlock Holmes picture was for Dennis.

I did not knit one stitch on Dennis’s sweater yesterday.  I made the KAL block and I knitted a “granny‘s favorite” dishcloth for my gift basket. I also need to start some socks for Brad for Christmas. I need more knitting time! Ha ha! I hope you are all having a wonderful Tuesday.

Costco

We made a trip to Costco on Saturday morning. I needed to pick up Chloe‘s prescription and I wanted to buy one of their roast chickens for dinner. By the way, did you know that Costco carries most common dog prescriptions? An example of the savings is that Chloe‘s prescription at the vet would be $47 a month and it Costco I get six months for $93! That is a humongous savings! Well, in addition to the chicken we bought this tin of cookies.

This is a 5 lbs. tin of Danish butter cookies! I’m thinking this should last me most of the winter. I’m trying to cut back on my sweets, but I like a cup of tea and something sweet in the evening.  The plan is to have my tea with one or two of these cookies at night. But oh my goodness! A 5 lb. tin!  It’s huge... everything at Costco is huge.

Here is a photo of the dishcloth I made Friday night, along with the pattern name for you. It’s free on ravelry and crochets up very, very quickly. I think I made this in about half an hour.  I used Hobby Lobby’s “I love this cotton.” And speaking of yarn, I stopped at Michael’s this morning and their yarn is buy two skeins get one free right now,  just in case any of you are interested.

Thank you all so much for the sweet comments on yesterday‘s post. I think my Mom and Dad looked very nice in both photos. It was wonderful to be able to wear her wedding dress. They were married in 1944 and we were married in 1978. The dress was in remarkably good condition, although the veil had pretty much disintegrated so I had to buy a new veil.

Alex had a wonderful time in London.  I think he’s a pretty handsome young man too. He will be 30 years old in December! Where does the time go?  He FaceTimed me this morning for a couple of hours before he went to the airport. I really feel blessed that he includes us in his life so much. Mandy called me twice this morning too! Although our kids live far away, it’s nice that they still want to talk to us and keep us involved in their lives.  Mandy had lunch today at the Olive Garden with Dennis‘s mom, his sister Karen, his niece and Karen’s grand babies. I just love that she has family living so close to do things with. And with Brad’s family there too, they keep pretty busy.  Quite a change from when they were living in Maryland and had no family at all.

I just downloaded the latest square for the blanket KAL a few minutes ago. I’m going to sit down this afternoon and start knitting on that. I hope you all have a wonderful Monday.

Veterans Day

Today is a day to say thank you and to remember all who have served in the military, including my husband Dennis, United States Air Force, my brother Roger, United States Navy, my brother-in-law Mike, United States Army, and my father Melvin, WWII United States Navy.  I appreciate you all and all of those who served alongside of you and gave everything for our freedoms.  My Dad and Mike have passed on, but their legacy remains of their love for their country.

I knit quite a bit yesterday on Dennis’s sweater, but my hands began to hurt, so just before bed I started a crocheted dishcloth.  A new pattern for me but super simple.

Alex is in London for the weekend and knows how much his Dad loves Sherlock Holmes books.  We have actually visited 221B Baker Street when we were in London last time.  Here is a picture he sent us last night standing by a Sherlock Holmes statue.  He sent a bunch of photos last night and made sure to tell me that “I visited your favorite museum Mom.  The Victoria and Albert museum.”  I love this boy.  It looks like he is having great weather for his visit.
