Happy Thursday everyone! Well it’s Thursday evening about 10:00 right now on the west coast, so I guess for most of you, when you read this it will be Friday! Happy Friday! I hope you are all staying warm and dry and have electricity. Oh my, I feel so for the people in the south who aren’t prepared for this kind of weather. As miserable as it is for those of us up north and in the midwest, at least we’re fairly used to it. My prayers are with everyone who is dealing with issues from the cold and the snow. As for us, my wonderful husband was able to repair the parks water spigot and as of last night we have running water again. Almost an entire week with no running water taught me to appreciate every drop that comes out of the faucets. I am just so grateful that we did not lose electricity like so many have, so we were able to stay warm.
I decided to get the St. Patrick’s Day decorations out when I put away the Valentine’s Day ones. It’s not an easy task to take the decorations out of storage, so I just thought I would do it all at once. I don’t have very many, just this banner of crocheted shamrocks and the plaque.
And during our one day of sunshine this week I was able to take this photo outside by our door. For those of you who haven’t discovered the joys of command hooks, I have to tell you they are wonderful. Especially in campers. You can put them anywhere and they have all sizes. They even have waterproof ones for the shower. We use them all over the RV for various things. This is a waterproof one that would usually be used in the shower, but I’ve had it outside ever since we moved in. It’s held fast through thunderstorms, hail and snow. But when I want to take it down, it is so simple. You lift the hook up and pull down on the little plastic adhesive tab on the bottom and it will come off without leaving a mark. This is not a commercial, but they are a great invention! They even make soap dishes and all kinds of special little hangers. We have two key holders that are held up with command strips. I will try to take a picture of one of them during the daylight.
I took this photo Tuesday when I took Chloe to the dog park. This is really a pretty place that we’re staying in isn’t it? We have received at least another five or 6 inches of snow since then and it’s coming down again all night tonight and tomorrow. But then, we are supposed to have a big warm up into the mid to upper 40s by the weekend and the start of next week! Hooray!
Another view from the dog park.
I had to pick up my grocery order Tuesday morning and this is what I drove through on the way there. Thankfully it had just started snowing so there wasn’t anything on the roads yet. If I had scheduled it just an hour or two later it would have been a mess. As it was I had to drive all the way across town later that afternoon to our accountant and came back on the highway at 15 mph the entire way because the road was a sheet of ice. After watching four cars slide off the road into the median ahead of me, I called Dennis and told him to come home through town and not get on the highway. It was too late for me and I was committed. There were no more exits until my own! The other cars were all going the same speed I was. Obviously I made it fine. It was pretty bad. Seriously, around here most of us are used to driving in this stuff and it takes a lot to cause multiple slide offs, because most everybody knows the rules of winter driving, but when it’s ice there’s not a lot you can do. Snow you can work with and drive in fairly easily. ICE, not so much.
I did get some mittens knitted since my last post.
And two more pair yesterday.
I even knitted myself a pair of worsted weight socks yesterday. I use them as house slippers around the RV. I made myself a pair in October and I completely wore them out. Even after mending them at least twice they were too far gone to repair again. I don’t know if it’s the hard floors or my feet that are so hard on them. I do have to say worsted weight socks are much, much faster than normal sock yarn. These were finished in just about three hours!
How are you all doing in the craziness of the weather? It’s not only cold and snowy here, but I saw on the news that the UK has also had a lot of snow and cold. It’s crazy! I think we are all ready for spring.
My best friend had her second Moderna shot on Monday and about eight hours later started running a fever and had body aches, chills and a headache. She was off work for two days. Tuesday she had a fever of 100.8 all day and could barely move because her muscles ached so badly. I made a big batch of homemade noodles and took them chicken and noodles, salad, rolls and cookies for dinner so she didn’t have to worry about making anything. Tuesday turned into a really busy day. They live fairly close to our accountants office so it didn’t add any extra driving in the snow! I’m happy to report she went back to work today. We had Bible study tonight via zoom and she’s back to normal with just a sore arm. These vaccines aren’t for sissies. I still have not been able to get Dennis scheduled for the vaccine yet. He’s had a strange cough for about a week, but he thinks it’s sinus. It doesn’t seem to be getting any worse but we’re keeping an eye on it. Mandy said he can’t get the vaccination if he’s sick anyway, so I guess it’s not a big deal if we have to wait a while. I would appreciate prayers for him that the cough doesn’t turn into something worse.
Not a whole lot of excitement here this week. Just trying to get through every day without much water and making trips to the laundromat when no one else was there, kept me entertained all week. It has snowed at least a little bit every day. With the exception of Tuesday and the excitement of driving on the ice I’ve stayed home entire week. I hope you are all staying safe and warm.
Blessings and love,
Blessings and love,
Betsy
Sending Dennis loads of positive vibes to push that cough he has got out of his system. So sorry to hear about all the water trouble you have been having and very glad that it is now mended. A full week without water is definitely no joke especially in winter! Beautiful gorgeous mittens...love the colours and the little tie up cord. I certainly would not drive with ice on the road!! Nasty! Take care and keep well Amanda x
ReplyDeleteGlad you made it safely driving on the highway Betsy!! And I hope Dennis is feeling ok and his cough subsides. Our snow event turned out to be less than forecast thank goodness. I believe next week will be a warming trend for us as well. Take care and stay warm!!
ReplyDeleteIt's been a icy mess here since Tuesday when it was in the 50's. Ugh. I am really over this winter and love seeing your St Patty's Day green. Spring is right around the corner so there is hope.
ReplyDeleteNo shots here yet although The Mister's family had pretty much all gotten theres because of their connection with the fire department. Middle Son got his because he's a big shot in the DOJ. No reactions from any of them but I am still scared to death about getting one. I even talked to my doctor who told me I was being silly and that so far it's been safer than a regular old flu shot statistic wise.
Gosh I'm glad you made it home safely. I used to drive the highway to work. I would always stay a safe distance behind a semi, drove slowly and carefully and was never ever one of those fools who would pass them! They are professionals and if they were driving slow, I figured they knew what they were doing! But you are right about ice, Jesus has to take the wheel!
ReplyDeleteYay for your husband to get the water flowing! I bet everyone in the park is grateful. We are blessed with heat and shelter this winter.
We've got a couple feet of snow with more expected this weekend. In truth, it's been a very mild winter for us, and its not unusual at all to have lots of snow in February. What annoys me is Dave sprained his elbow so I have to do ALL the shoveling! Lol.
ReplyDeleteI've heard from a few people that the second dose of the vaccine has made them quite unwell for a day or two. Apparently it's pretty normal and just means your immune system is working! Still no fun, but probably better than the alternative. Dave and I are both early 40s so we won't see our vaccines for months yet. That's ok - do the most vulnerable first.
Lovely mittens! And great socks. I like making the thick ones for my Dad. He is diabetic so his feet are always cold. He loves them. He just wore through the chunky slippers I made him a couple years ago, so I need to make him another pair.
Yesterday was very warm and today is all rain! I can never guess about the weather here in winter! Sorry you had to get out in the snow--it does complicate things!
ReplyDeleteThe mittens are beautiful, you really crank them out! lol
Yeah for water that come out of a faucet! I cannot believe they did not have a stand in repair guy, Dennis should send them a bill! I am much better today...so I would say after about 60 hours I returned to normal. The swelling is down to golf ball size...and that is a relief! Nice dog park...I am sure Chloe likes going there. Stay warm, praying that Dennis gets rid of his cough so he can get a shot!
ReplyDeleteIt's been cold and snowy here too. I as blessed by a neighbor plowing our driveway and another coming over to help me get the garage door open. It was froze to the floor where ice had built up under it. I know what you mean about ice. Steve and I rolled our pickup one year doing about 25 miles an hour and in 4 wheel drive . . . not a problem on snow but ice can take all control away from the driver. Neither one of us was hurt but we had to climb up and out the side door because the truck landed on it's side. I twisted my ankle jumping out of the truck . . . so good to what it could have been. You've been very busy, I love all the pretty mittens.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you both and stay warm. Praying for Dennis' cough.
Cold and Icy here. But our 32 degrees probably sounds warm to you and lots of others. I can't imagine driving in that icy weather you were in. Glad you made it home safe. Your mittens are so colorful and pretty especially after seeing the cold snowy pictures. I like your St. Patrick's Day banner. It's so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you made it home with no mishaps. The snow is inconvenient but so pretty. Your mittens are all so nice and I like the idea of using nice thick socks as house slippers. My feet are always cold.
ReplyDeleteI hope Dennis will get rid of his cough soon. Take care, GM
Cold here too but sunny! The snow ended after about a foot and it is gorgeous. Glad you made it safely home on the roads and I will pray for Dennis. I love that red, gray and yellow mitten! Cute color combo! Those worsted socks do look nice and warm. I get my second shot on the 24th.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tip about Command hooks. I put them on my grocery list! Your decorations are vary cute!
Thank goodness you are safe in all that snow and a big shout out to Dennis for fixing the water issues. No water is no fun at all. i hear many people are having side effects from the second dose of vaccine, but as bad as they are they are better than being really ill for weeks. Stay safe Betsey, drive carefully in all that snow.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear your water is back.. thank goodness for your handy husband! I bet you won't miss the management at that place. It's fun to see your St. Paddy's day decorations up, I will do the same soonish. Imagine how pretty it will look with my jadeite dishes! I actually adore the mittens you're making with the mix and match colors and yarns, I bet the kids will love how fun they look! I'm amazed at how fast you knit those new socks! Sheesh!! Have a wonderful weekend. Travis is doing well.. I can't wait until he's home again. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteoh Betsy. So so glad your water is back . I thought of you around 5 pm daily but was , Im sorry, just so tired. i will surpass you with a call someday! I'm so glad you were safe in the ice. It is not fun at all. I love your little mittens . I love your St Paddy's decor. Have you noticed, in the White House, the mantel of a main meeting room where our Dear President Joe Biden works, is loaded with oxalis shamrocks. It is unreal. I'll ry to find photo. We have more snow on the way, but not a lot. I ve planned a surprise for Fireman but don't know if it will actually happen. Hope so!
ReplyDeleteThat was a very scary drive, so glad you made it back home safely. I hate driving in inclement weather. So very glad that you got your water back. I still have Valentine decorations up but they are coming down this weekend. We have our second COVID shot on Monday and are prepared to be "down and out" until Wednesday. I am in awe of your speedy knitting, it takes me days to knit socks! I hope Dennis if feeling better very soon. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt's still very cold here, today was 23° for a high, but by Monday we're supposed to have 55° then 63° on Tuesday!! Woot!! My cosuins in Texas finally got their electricity back on today but now there is no water. They all live in several suburbs around DFW. This was such a crazy two-punch storm for the whole country. I stopped driving in snow a couple years back ... told the kids if I was needed they'd have to come get me (which they have a couple times). Thank the Lord you got home safely!! I've used Command products for several years. So much better than nail holes in the wall! So glad your water is back on!! Hugs and blessings, Betsy!!
ReplyDeleteAm so glad the Lord kept you safe dear Betsy, and praying it may continue... did you know it’s the coldest it’s been since the 1890s over there. And I heard it said it’s because of global warming, no not kidding.
ReplyDeleteProfessing themselves to be wise, they became fools, Romans 1:22
It’d be “new-never-before”, if it was because of global warming.
Or maybe it was global warming in 1890 too!
It’s been like this before and will be again till the Lord comes and sorts out the foolish on this planet.
Great socks and mittens too.
Thanks for Sharing, God bless and keep you safe, and all those you love, hugs Shaz in Oz.x

PS praying re Dennis.
ReplyDeleteYes I’ve heard lots of bad reactions to all sorts on offer.
I’m not getting it here. We’re recommended but I react badly to things so will wait and see long term if it really truly does work, as they say you can still catch it with it, and see is worth it all. I’m not convinced. Normally do get all vaccines but this time no... praying for you.
Glad you got your water fixed and that you were safe on that slippery road. Love your house sox/slippers. Look comfy. I was sick for a week for the first shot but my fever never went real high. Just had a little diarrhea and tired for the second shot. Looking forward to feel safer having my great grandchildren visit again after a couple weeks. I know we still need to be careful. Nancy
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you helped your friend that felt ill after the virus shot. Stay warm. I'm glad I found your blog via my phone.
ReplyDeletebrrrr, just looking at the pictures made me cold! It's warming up here in my part of Texas, hopefully we're going back to our 'normal.' That was just too much winter for my bones. lol Love your socks, it must be nice to be able to make your own. :) St Pat's Day already, wow!! Guess I need to get my decorations out too.
ReplyDeleteSo thankful you all are keeping safe in the bad weather and trust Dennis will feel better soon. God bless you both.
ReplyDeleteOur snow on this side of the mts. is nearly gone, and it looks like the flowers survived the shock! Nice work on the mittens and socks. Hope Dennis is feeling better by now. We are supposed to get our second shot on Friday and hoping that it won't make us sick.
ReplyDeleteOh Betsy, I can honestly say,, I am NOT missing the snow! This is the 1st time we have "run away from home" in the Winter months.. and it feels really good! But I do miss home and especially my lil messy sewing room!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are all staying safe and warm.. and keep up those lovely knitted and crochet projects.
Hugz & Blessings

So glad Dennis was able to solve your water problem, and that you are safely navigating your slippery roads!! I admire the socks and mittens you have completed.πOur snow has nearly all melted and now Tim's household has power again although many still don't. ππ€π
ReplyDeleteWe had lots of snow and freezing temperatures last week and now we are back to the warmer weather and rain. So sorry to read about your lack of water, such a basic thing that we miss when it is not available. Stay safe on those roads, it doesn't sound good. You and Dennis are always in our prayers.
