1. Pizza
2. Fried Chicken. (I can still taste my Mom’s fried chicken and it been well over 30 years!)
3. Prime Rib (I’m a midwest girl at heart)
4. Almost any kind of bread
5. Ice Cream ( Especially Rocky Road)
6. Moe’s clam chowder (Moe’s is a restaurant on the Oregon Coast)
7. French Toast
8. Shrimp
9. Lasagna
10. Donuts (especially with chocolate frosting and cream filled)
There aren’t too many foods I don’t like which, I guess, explains why I need to lose weight!๐คฃ
Tonight my best friend Jenny called me when she got off work and said she was on her way over. She asked me to meet her outside when she got to the RV park and she had something for me. It’s so hard not to give her a hug when I see her, but we tried to keep our distance from each other. Look what she brought for Dennis and I.
Isn’t it just the sweetest little tree? When her mother was in a nursing facility she had bought her a little 3 1/2 to 4 foot tree. It had a long trunk and this greenery at the top of it. She and Neal offered the tree to us to use in our trailer, but it was just too big and we didn’t have any place for it. So Neal cut the long trunk off and made this new base for it. Inside the present on the right, there are control boxes that let you set the lights to whatever color you want or you can make them stay on or flash on and off. Wasn’t this just the sweetest gift? I love the little tree. It’s covered with ornaments already too. It’s wonderful to have such good friends who care about little things
like this and think of us. We are so blessed!
Although, like many of you we will be alone for Thanksgiving this year, Alex sent a message over our family WeChat group that we needed to have a virtual Thanksgiving dinner together. So we will we’ll all be online together in a video chat on Thursday and hopefully we will manage to time it right so that we can eat our meals together. It will be noon for us, 1:00 for Jamie‘s family in Montana, 2:00 for Mandy’s family in Nebraska and 8 in the evening for Alex and Tara in London. Tara is excited to cook her first Thanksgiving dinner. The kids and grandkids were all here last year for Thanksgiving and that was the last time I’ve seen any of them. It was Tara‘s first Thanksgiving dinner and she really enjoyed it. What a wonderful weekend we all had together.
This is our family’s favorite sweet potato dish. I highly recommend it. Tara and Alicia both requested it this year so Mandy wrote it out for them. My copy only has the ingredients listed with no instructions! I guess I have made it so many times, I knew exactly what to do, but still needed a reminder of the amounts of each ingredient. I highly recommend this dish. It is so good it could almost be a dessert. Instead of fresh sweet potatoes or yams, you can also use canned sweet potatoes, just be sure to drain all of the liquid off of them first.
I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday. Does anyone have big plans or are we all staying home alone, together?
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
So sweet of your friends to make that little tree for you. No plans at all here, though I'm sure my husband would like to eat something sort of Thanksgiving inspired, all plant-based but still delicious. Used to make a sweet potato casserole, but now I just love the taste of sweet potatoes roasted in the oven with a little olive oil and nothing else. I need to get to the grocery store this week if I'm going to make anything special. Hopefully I can find some pumpkin to make a nice vegan pumpkin pie. Yum! Take care.
ReplyDeleteWe are planning a small gathering my youngest son and family will be here. It's rough for so many! We will do a virtual visit with my parents! So grateful for technology!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful gift! We are "zooming" Thanksgiving with our children and their families. We did this for Easter, too. We never dreamed we would still be celebrating separately at this time. Four out of five of our children live within 15 minutes of our house. But our small town had 125 cases just in town last week and we are not risking it.
ReplyDeleteYour zoom dinner will be fun for you all. We are going to Travis and Kristi's house for dinner as they are in our bubble. The boys are spending the weekend with us. We got them each their own large pizza last night and Hayden ate all but two slices at one sitting! Boys! That was super nice of your friend to make a little tree for you like that. I bet it's festive in your cozy home!

How very thoughtful it was of Jenny to bring you the lovely tree which her husband had cut down to a size more fitting to your RV. Some people are so gracious.
ReplyDeleteI like your list of fav. foods. It's interesting what each person likes and dislikes.
What a nice gift! It is a perfect size for you. Yes we are all staying home:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little tree! And so special to come from such wonderful friends who have fixed it to fit your rv - how great is that! // Not sure that much will change in the way of Thanksgiving this year from any other year. Maybe odd to others, but it's just another day to us it seems. Don't know what the kids/grandkids are doing, if anything. // I love sweet potatoes! We just bake them in foil and eat without anything on them. We think they're yummy the way they are! Blessings to you and Dennis and Chloe!
ReplyDeleteThe little tree is adorable, you have such a thoughtful friend. Hope you manage to have your thanksgiving together. We are planning to have an advent tea together so that should be nice.
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy, it’s the cutest little tree what extra special friends. God is so good to us.
ReplyDeleteI can’t eat a lot of your favourite foods. I’ve been on lots of meds all my life and have a really stingy whiny dictator of a tummy! ๐
It’s not thanksgiving here but I’m on my own, mostly am these days, wasn’t once but it’s interesting when it’s needed our Lord God makes us “content with such things as we have.. “
He doesn’t give us the grace for the need till the need comes our way.
To Him be the glory.

I'm so sorry that you will be so far away from your family but am glad that you have arranged a mutual online time. Thank goodness for technology though I am not very computer savvy. I love your list of favorite foods - your #10 is my weakness - Boston Creme donuts! All the best, Lisa
ReplyDeleteYour list of favorite foods sounds so yummy; I know I have enjoyed all the items you like. Through the years I have enjoyed your friendship with Neal and Jenny as you have lovingly mentioned them in your blog and I love this episode you have shared about the sweet Christmas tree gift they gave you. ๐๐ค๐
