Ah chooo!

Do you hear that? It’s the sound of sneezing and coughing. I have been down with a doozy of a head cold since Thursday morning. But I thought I would pop in and show you what I have managed to accomplish while sitting in my chair and doing absolutely nothing except blowing my nose.

Out of these little balls I have managed to create...

10 squares so far to be mailed to Virginia for a prayer blanket ministry.
Six more pairs of mittens.

These two hats for the ladies ministry at the nursing home were not made with the little balls in the basket, but with a skein of “I love This Yarn” from Hobby Lobby and then the last little bit was used for a pair of mittens in the above photo.

I imagine most of you who knit or crochet have a basket or box similar to this. Whenever I finish making something, no matter how small of an amount I have left, I put the ball into this basket. Even a yard or two is enough to make the center of a granny square!  It sits in the corner of our living room and reminds me to use these odds and ends up and not waste them.  Just look how much I’ve made with them in the past two days alone and I just took the basket photo this morning. I still have that entire basket left!

I hope you are all doing well. I haven’t left the house in two days and I don’t plan on going anywhere today. Dennis is at the grocery store picking up some supplies for us. It’s not a hardship for me to stay home. I am a homebody at heart. Wishing you all a wonderful Saturday.

“Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.”  Isaiah 25:1

Blessings,
Betsy

  1. I'm so sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. You certainly have managed to make some lovely "pretties" between nose blows, LOL. Having handwork at your chair does make the time go faster . . . praying for you to have a speedy recovery.
    God bless you both,
    Connie :)

  2. I find winding balls so soothing. It's all I did for months last year when I was going through all the stress of grieving. I've got a bucket of sock yarn balls now but no project in mind yet.

  3. Sorry to hear of your head cold.. I hope you heal up fast. I am scared to death of getting one as it always goes into bronchitis when I get one. Sometimes almost pneumonia. I can't believe they haven't found a cure for the common cold. When I was looking at all the things you've made it sounded like the 12 days of Christmas -- 10 granny squares, 6 pairs of mittens, 2 knitted hats.. and a partridge in a pear tree! LOL!! Take care of yourself and get better, my friend. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  4. My late husband used to think I had eyes in the top of my head because I never sat down to watch TV without some sort of handwork in my hands.

I save all the scraps for my daughter who loves to do hats. Usually by time I finish a project, I'm tired of that color!

    Feel better soon!

  5. Prayers for you to get better soon. Yes I have a similar basket and that is what I use to make the wildlife nests or granny squares!

  8. Head colds are no fun! Have you ever used Thieves....on bottom of your feet? I make a roller ball with it and a few other YL essential oils. I can text you the recipe if you wish! Phil's had a cough as well and uses cough syrup to help him sleep. Wow...love all the projects you've done with left over yarn. Have a weekend that's healthier!!

  9. So sorry your are ill....no fun! Glad you had plenty to keep you busy. You were very productive despite being ill. I've been coughing and sneezing but I think it's probably from the dryness in the house and the heat being on. Forced air is so unhealthy I think. I loved it when I had a house with radiators! No noise, no dust....and much healthier. I hope you feel better soon!

  10. Oh Betsy, I am amazed at all the pretty things you've made there. I wish so much that I could knit or crochet. The basket of little yarn balls looks so pretty and cozy. Like you, I am a home body too. Rather be home than any place else. Hope your cold goes away soon. Having a cold is just miserable.

  11. Oh, I am so sorry you are so sick! That is so miserable. I agree with the lady who commented above. We take Thieves in our household each time we feel like we are getting sick. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't, but it seems like if you can catch it early enough, it does prevent it from worsening and it also shortens the duration. We actually apply a drop of Thieves (Young Living brand) to our fingertip and rub it on the inside of our cheek. It absorbs quickly. This absolutely works for a sore throat, too. I'm not sure if you can ingest other brands of Thieves, but we use the Young Living, which is supposed to be pure. Just a suggestion. I am praying you feel better soon!

  14. I am sorry you are sick. I am trying to drink a cup of elderberry tea most nights to try to stay well! Even when you are sick you are very productive. Like your idea of your yarn in little balls kept in a basket. Hope you feel better soon. Nancy

  15. Oh gosh Betsy! Hope you are much, much better by now. I've been sneezing like crazy and going through boxes and boxes of tissues...but I think mine is allergies and not a cold. You need to get well and stay well - your family is coming!!!!

  18. Oh Betsy! I'm so sorry to hear about your terrible cough, that is just miserable! I do pray you are feeling better day by day! Look at all the beautiful things you've created, that is just amazing! Such love knitted into each one, and such a blessing for them to receive! What a dear generous heart you have, and I know the recipients are blessed by your kind giving heart and hands! I pray you feel better soon, and indeed, the next time I come into Spokane we need to meet and have a visit, that would be so wonderful! I hardly ever go, it seems, unless I have a pressing appointment. I prefer being at home, just as you do {smiles} Many hugs and much love to you sweet friend!
